Air Gun PelletsOver the last 20 years, military re-enactment games featuring Air Soft guns have found a growing fan base in the United States. A favorite pastime in numerous Asian countries for many years already, these games are sometimes compared to paintball, although aficionados would argue that they are far more realistic. What makes the difference? Not only are the guns replicas of real firearms, but the air gun pellets are plastic BBs instead of balls of paint.
The most commonly used BBs are either 0.12 or 0.2 grams, usually of a six-millimeter caliber (although eight-millimeter BBs are occasionally used). The lighter pellets can be projected at faster speeds, although the heavier ones are a little more precise. Interestingly, although the pellets are made with what is called a "soft" plastic, they are nevertheless quite hard and can sting painfully when shot at close range.
Although Air Soft guns are designed to replicate the appearance (and to a certain extent, the functions) of specific gun models, the main difference is that they all use the same type of ammunition. In recent years, however, certain companies have begun releasing variations. For example, some companies have begun manufacturing paintball BBs that leave a mark when a target is hit. These BBs should work in all Air Soft weapons.
At Pyramyd Air, we carry a wide range of air gun pellets designed for Air Soft guns. You can buy in bulk, with containers holding 5,000 to 8,000 rounds, or in smaller quantities, such as the 800-round, grenade-shaped feeders.
