Air GunsThe basic technology used by air guns has been around since as early as the 15th century. More recently, manufacturers who modified traditional air guns created an entirely new subdivision of weapons called Airsoft guns. Not powerful enough for hunting, Airsoft guns are used for combat simulation games, training, target practice, and more.
An Airsoft gun utilizes BBs as ammunition. The BBs used are usually either 0.12 or 0.2 grams and are six-millimeter caliber. Although they are called Airsoft, these guns can actually produce quite an impact, even breaking the skin if fired upon at short range without the proper protection. To that end, players usually wear protective clothing, such as military BDUs (battle dress uniforms). You should also always wear safety goggles when using any type of air gun.
Although Airsoft guns could be considered toys, many models actually feature complex mechanics. There are three primary mechanisms: spring-action, gas powered or electric motors. Top weapons are capable of shooting upwards of 400 feet per second, making them extremely accurate, even at longer distances. With semi-automatic and full automatic modes available on many models, Airsoft guns are far from being simple toys.
In fact, maintaining a high level of realism is very important to many Airsoft aficionados. Manufacturers take the time to create 1:1 full scale weapons that are near-perfect replicas of existing guns. At Pyramyd Air, we offer a wide range of quality Airsoft guns. Whether you are new to the sport or have played for years, you're sure to find that our selection of Airsoft products is second to none.
