Czech out the precision of the Drulov DU-10 semiautomatic pistol

By B.B. Pelletier

There are VERY few true semiautomatic pellet guns in the world. The Drulov DU-10 pistol is one of them. It’s even available as a rifle. (I haven’t tried it, but the pistol is so high quality that I have complete confidence in the rifle, as well.)

Semiautomatic action means the gun fires with every pull of the trigger, but the action is cocked for you by the gun. Crosman’s 1077 rifle is a 12-shot repeater that also fires with each pull of the trigger, but you’re rotating the cylinder and pulling back on the firing hammer, making the trigger pull much heavier. The DU-10’s trigger pull is very light and crisp, and you can rip off five shots in less than two seconds. Because there is very little recoil, they will all go where you aim.

This pistol has a Czech precision-rifled barrel, so you can expect your shots to stay on a dime at 10 meters (33 feet). That’s only true if YOU are able to hold that well! This is a true target pistol that can actually hit the period at the end of this sentence nine times out of ten from 10 meters, but few shooters can hold that well.

Compared to the legendary Crosman 600 semiautomatic pistol made in the 1960s, the DU-10 holds its ground. It’s made far better and will make you proud. Plus, finding a good Crosman 600 shooter isn’t that easy, and you’ll pay over $200 when you do locate one.

Gas it up, put in the pellets & you’re ready to go!
The DU-10 comes ready to shoot, and you can gas it up with either a common 12-gram CO2 powerlet OR a bulk-fill CO2 tank that attaches to the gun for a top-off. The first way is the easiest for most shooters, but the second method is far less expensive once you’re set up for bulk filling. Either way, the gun shoots the same.

It takes five wadcutter pellets in a straight tube-type magazine that inserts at the rear of the receiver. The magazine works very well with wadcutters (flat-nosed pellets that cut a perfect circle in target paper), and I recommend H&N High Speed Finale Match pellets for best results.

Want to shoot better? This gun can train YOU!
Who wouldn’t like to shoot better? This gun can help you hone your shooting skills and help you become a better marksman. It grows with you. And, it comes with an optional left-hand grip, if you need one.

This is an expensive airgun, make no mistake. In fact, it’s about the same as the street price of the Russian IZH-35 .22 target pistol that it resembles. But the Drulov is more reliable, better finished and more accurate than the IZH-35, so you really do get what you pay for, in this case.

This is a different air pistol. You have to really want quality to buy something like this. As an owner, I give it a high recommendation.

  1. Does the DU-10 come with the necessary items required for bulk CO2 filling or does one need to purchase certain parts? I am not familiar with CO2 bulk filling, therefore, your comments would be appreciated.
    Thanks—————-D.G.

  2. The DU-10 has everything you need to fill the gun from the CO2 cylinder that comes with the gun, but there is no adaptor to refill the gun’s bulk CO2 tank

The way most airgunners do that is purchase a 20-pound CO2 tank (a fire extinguiser without the dicharge valve installed) that has a siphon tube installed, so it pumps liquid CO2 from the bottom of the tank. They then obtain an adaptor to connect that tank (which has standard 1/2-inch gas piper threads) to their DU-10 bulk tank. Then they fill their small bulk than from the large one and the gun from the small one.

It’s a trifle bothersome getting set up for this, but once you’ve gotten everything you need, there are tens of thousands of shots (years of active shooting) in the large tank.

You can buy a large CO2 tank from any industrial gas supplier, and if there is a restaurant near you, just ask them who supplies their gas for the soda dispenser.

You can have Pyramyd AIR make an adaptor to connect the large bulk tank to the Drulov tank.

I discussed this procedure in great detail on 27, 28 and 29 March of 2006. Go to the latest blog page and type “bulk fill” into the search function on the right side of the page to quickly access those reports. Or just click on March 2006 and scroll down until you find them.

  3. The carbine is not convertable to a pistol. It doesn’t have to be, because the pistol is available.

The Drulov is not a big seller, so owners may have to fend for themselves. However, a call to Pyramyd AIR will answer your question.

  4. Thanks. I will call regarding the LH grip.

I’m interested in picking-up a DU-10 ~ just need to determine the availability of parts/repairs/support.

They seem to have a larger following in easter europe, if google results are a valid indicator.

Here’s a site (Czech) devoted to the Eagle.

  5. I don’t what kind of starter you are looking for. If you want to start shooting 10-meter pistol, the Drulov isn’t appropriate because its a repeater. If you are just looking for informal target practice, both guns are fine.

There is no pump involved with the 46M, other than the lever that serves that function. I assume you know that, but I’m just making sure.

If you want to shoot 10-meter pistol, the 46M is the only gun to get. It can take you up to regional champiuonships.

  6. I have decided apun this gun because the 5 shot will keep me more ammused than a single (thank you for your words of wisdom) but I read your blog of March 2006 about CO2 bulk fill and still I am a little comfused. Is it possible with the parts theb it comes with to attach a 20oz CO2 can to this gun directly without using the smaller 125 gram “thing”. And if needs be what moreis required for a 20oz can would I need for adapters?

I love this web site because you are not trying to sell the product but give real helpful infromation not the garbage the company gives saying it is always prefect.

  7. Where can I get the adapter to fill the Drulov’s bulk tank from a 20oz CO2 bottle? McMaster Carr? I didn’t see it at pyramidair. Cooper-T, which made everything that is necessary to fill the gun and the bulk tank from a 20 oz CO2-bootle, seems to have gone out of business (telephone disconnected, emails bounce back).

  8. Why did PA discontinue this gun?

It gives an estimated in stock date 01-10-2008 but under the price, is says “Discontinued”.

I’m confused, are they going to re-stock it or not?

  9. I’m interested in purchasing one of the Drulov DU-10 pistols, but I’ve read that they’re particular about pellet size. Does anyone have any thoughts on the right pellet for this gun? Thanks.

  10. B.B.,
Thanks so much for this blog, as I’m completely ignorant of air pistols, but I’m eager to learn to use them as a convenient training aid for my rimfire/centerfire target shooting.

The Drulov comes with some sort of small plastic bottle, which I assume can be used to fill the 12 gm CO2 bulb that powers the pistol. Can’t I use standard commercial 12 gm bulbs until I get the swing of things?

Lastly, I stumbled upon the Drulov because I’m looking for an accurate, multi-shot air pistol as a training aid for shooting. Any other suggestions? The Drulov looks reasonably priced and quite accurate but I am completely open to other options.

    Thanks again.

  11. Kent,

That bottle ain’t PLASTIC! It’s brass. It holds 900 pounds per square inch and has to be rated to hold 2,800 psi. It doesn’t fill the 12 gram cartridges – it fills the gun.

Yes, you can use 12 gram cartridges.

The Drulov is the most accurate affordable semiauto air pistol around, unless you buy a vintage Crosman 600.

  12. B.B.,
Thanks, and I assume this will make more sense once I can see/touch the Drulov. It makes sense that you’d have to have a hardened metal (brass) container to tolerate the pressure from the CO2. However, there is a much larger container that comes with the Drulov in its case and I’m assuming this can be used for transfering CO2 from a large tank.

I’m looking forward to receiving the DU-10 for shooting this summer.

    Thanks again for your help.

  13. BB,

I just learned that the Drulov 10 is not suitable for 10m competition but Pyramydair’s description page for the DU-10 says diferent: “Its specifications fully comply with UTI regulations for international shooting competitions for compressed air pistols at 10 meters”. I would like to get into 10m discipline and I’m looking for a good target pistol to begin. I thought the DU-10 was the answer.

    Pulsar.

  14. Pulsar,

This pistol is suitable for the Sport Pistol class. That’s also shot at 10 meters, but it isn’t called 10-meter. It’s a timed, 5-shot competition, and it isn’t in the Olympics yet.

True 10-meter is a slow fire course where you get 1.5 minutes per shot. The guns are not repeaters.

  15. Hi,

I have the Drulov DU-10. I misplaced my adapter I had to use a bulk CO2 tank to fill the smaller grey tank that came with the pistol. I called pyramid air and they couldn't help me. Anyone know where I can find this?

    Thanks

    Alex
