3 of 3 Diana RWS 52 with a 4x32 Scope Reviews
I have three other RWS air rifles and a Feinwekbau 124D. All are break barrels and in .177. This is the first side lever I have owned and the first air rifle in .22. I am very pleased with the power of the rifle and the weight of the .22 pellets. I love to shoot them all, but I know my new RWS 52 will be my first choice for long distance and bigger game.
Things I Would Have ChangedI bought the combo... I have used the RWS C-mount in the past, but I really had trouble this time around. It had to be tightened every few shots. The scope is good, but this rifle deserves better. In my search for a better scope mount, I stumbled on a close out RWS scope and mount combination for a couple bucks more than the C-mount alone sells for. The new set up is just the ticket for this rifle.
What Others Should KnowIf I were to do it over again, I would pass on the combo and find the right scope and mounts for this gun. Quality, accuracy, finish and power are outstanding. This is a great choice for a fixed barrel large air rifle.
I do like the weight of the gun and the quality of almost all it's components. The cocking effort is not big for a gun with such power. The shaft is beautiful and feels great with the checkering and the nicely pronounced monte carlo stock. The barrel is nice, heavy and all metal. Al metal parts are beautifully blued and there are no spots to be found where it's lighter or darker than in another. The trigger, even though guarded by plastic, is very nice and breaks consistently and clean. This feels just like a large high power hunting rifle and therefore will do a great job for someone that would like to practice gun handling, breathing technique and trigger control right in their own basement.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe iron (plastic) sights are mediocre. For a gun that is supposedly capable of hitting targets at 30+ yards you simply cannot go with such loose and "clunky" sights. The front sight is made entirely of plastic and HUGE. It's an about 2mm wide post. And the rear sight is very flimsy feeling and seems to be too loose to be able to stay on alignment. I guess this is because the gun seems to be mainly made to be used with Scopes and therefore has the iron (plastic) sights only for decoration?? The 1-piece RWS Scope mount included is said to be a very good solid piece, but it didn't outlast me for 20 Minutes. I can say that I am pretty advanced as far as mechanical things go, I'm rebuilding motorcycle engines successfully since 10 years. But apparently the scope mount is not for big hands and lots of torque. I stripped some screws and I'm frustrated to say the least, I expected this to be a bit more solid. I'm curious to see how the replacement mount I had to buy is going to fare after professional installation by my gunsmith.
What Others Should KnowRight when you open the box you'll see that this is a great piece of craftsmanship and if you overlook the plastic sights you'll find it a good investment.
The gun looks and feels like it's going to last you a lifetime and can be handed down to your kids, eventually maybe your grandkids.
Make sure you spend the 20 odd dollars at your local gun shop and have them mount, center and boresight the scope and mounts for you.
It'll save you time and frustration! And maybe pyramid air should offer this service too!
Can't say much about the included RWS 4x32 scope yet, as I have not been able to shoot with it. Just holding it in my hands I can tell it is nicely made and same as the gun itself it is clean looking and feeling. The sight picture is good and it may just be bright enough for some early dusk shots.
Other than that, if you plan on using this with a pellet trap, go for something stable. Beeman $20 Model will dent with the first shot at 10 yards!
Also important is a proper backstop, at 10 yards the penetration in a phone book is no less than 2 inches.

the fit and finish are awesome..its what you expect from rws.this gun is very powerful and shoots heavier pellets with ease and lots of energy.
Things I Would Have Changedplease change the scope mount..ive had to tighten some my screws several times even locited..this setup is more complicated than it needs to be.the mount itself has never loosened nor has the scope stop..its always those side screws under the rings..thank god for leapers.
What Others Should Knowmy gun eats jsb exacts 15.9g like candy.at first this gun was somewhat noisy with some buzz but after a couple of tins of its favorite ammo its gotten quieter and if i do my part can cover a group at 25yds with a nickel.ive had this gun for 2 years now and expect accuracy to improve with more use.gun is heavy if you can sling it.cant wait for squirrel season.
