Things I liked: In the hands feels more like a $300 rifle than a $150 rifle. I read ALL the reviews on this (and MANY other rifles) before choosing this one. This is, i truly believe, is the best made .22 cal Nitro Piston air rifle --FOR THE MONEY-- YES, you CAN buy a BETTER air rifle, but you will have to PAY MORE for it! I read the reviews & complaints about the trigger. Now, maybe just maybe it is because I an accustomed to shooting old military rifles and therefore I am used to the feeling of long pull "squishy" triggers, but to me this factory trigger was 100% OK. NOT a "great" trigger, by no means! But was WAY better than expected. The gun locks up very tight when closed, and accuracy seems to be "good enough" for it to have only 100 pellets through it. I know the accuracy will improve as the barrel gets broke in (250 - 400 shots to break in, as I understand it) but right out of the box I was keeping all shots with all 4 brands & weights of pellets inside the bottom of a 12oz. soda can at 30 yards. AFTER the barrel is broke in I will do a die-hard bench rest accuracy test with 8 or more different weights / brand of pellets and post a follow up review listing the results.
Things I would have changed: REMEMBER: This is a $150 rifle. NOT a $300 rifle! Many people say " I would change ABC into a XYZ and add a blah blah blah" not thinking when making their review that ALL THINGS they "Would Change" are ALREADY CHANGED on another model rifle,,,,,for MORE MONEY. So, lets get real here, what would I like to see changed that would keep the CURRENT PRICE of this rifle the same or less? 1) Sell the rifle for $25 - $30 LESS and they can LEAVE OUT the junky Center Point 3-9x X 32mm scope. The scope was a big disappointment. Sorry, it just is! Lucy for me, I had another much better scope that I put on this rifle, and will slap that Center Point onto some firearm that I trade off/sell sometime in the future. 2) A better trigger CAN BE MADE, WITHOUT costing any more money to Crosman. The triger on my $45 Crosman 760 Pumpmaster is better than the one they stuck on this $150 rifle. They DO know how to make a better trigger! 3) PLEASE leave off that goofy plastic muzzle break / silencer thing at the end of the barrel! I removed mine and it makes the rifle look more upscale and not so,,,,,,,,,,,,"CHEAP". 3) A metal trigger guard. It CAN'T cost THAT much more to make it out of metal! Event the $150 price point, I just don't see why Crosman could not use a blued steel trigger guard.
What others should know: Pyramyd Air's fast free shipping! Recieved rifle in 2 days! Customer service is 2nd to none!
Things I liked: Heavy hitter as far as 22 pellets go. Very near the power of a 22 short rim fire. Punched clean through my old 1/4" thick aluminum "back stop" Now that I have went from 9 grain .177 @ 550 fps to a 32 grain .22 @ 602 fps, i now need a better backstop!! )
Things I would have changed: come out with a .223" version in a 31 grain dome head. The ones for sale here measure .225" and are a TIGHT fit!
What others should know: I may be stupid for using these in a Nitro Piston rifle, but in my particular rifle that I just received 2 days ago from Pyramid Air (Crosman Nitro Venom .22) out of the wide variety of 22 pellets I have on hand, these are dang near 1 hole accurate in that particular rifle!! Hits like a "sledgehammer" as far as sub $200 pellet guns go!
Things I liked: Cheapest 22 pellet avalable makes them a perfect choice for braking in a new barrel. Just dont expect them to have any real accuracy beyond 30 yards.
Things I would have changed: These are the dirtyest, most deformed pellets I have ever seen. I have a can in .177 that were horrible. For some reason, I thought I'd give them another try, this time in .22 cal. NOPE. They were WORSE than the .177's! Deformed skirts are the NORM. It took me 120 pellets sorted through and hand picked to find 10 good ones for accuracy potential. (Still not that great, even when hand picked) I done this in both the .177 pile I had for the Crosman 760, and the .22's I just got in for my new Crosman Nitro Venom rifle I just got from Pyramid. The BEST hand picked, washed pick of the litter with a clean barrel 5 shot group I got with these at 30 yards was 2.75". I then shot a UNSORTED group, just picking pellets randomly out of the tin, and got a 4.9" shot group. :-/ I then switched to the Eun Jin .22 Cal. 32.4 Grain pointed pellet without cleaning the barrel and fired a 5 shot 1.25" group!
