Details
One of the more powerful guns in the Beeman line, the RX-2 isn't a traditional spring gun. Instead of a coiled steel spring, the piston is filled with air. It's like the gas spring that holds up the back door of a minivan or hatchback car. Instead of compressing a steel spring, you're compressing a column of air. You don't have to fill the gas spring because no air ever leaves it.
When you go hunting with a gun that has a gas spring, you never have to worry about the spring taking a "set." When you cock a gun with a metal spring, you're supposed to shoot it right away. If you leave it cocked too long (and do that too many times), the spring loses strength, remains more compressed when it's uncocked and delivers lower power. That won't happen with a gas spring!
In any caliber, the RX-2 makes a great hunting rifle. In .22 cal., it delivers over 20 foot-pounds.
The rifle's higher power has a pronounced jolt when you fire it. If you'd like to eliminate the jolt, try the Super Gas RX-2. It helps with accuracy by allowing you increased follow-through (because you're not pulling away from the target) and smoothes the cocking effort and firing motion.
The breakbarrel mechanism of the RX-2 is just like the one you'd find on a gun with a metal spring. Dressed in a laminated Monte Carlo stock with a raised cheekpiece, the rifle has a long forearm, grip cap and white line spacers in the buttpad. The 11mm grooves make it a cinch to install a scope. High-quality workmanship is evident all around, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a gun made as well.
Don't forget to pick up a variety of specially recommended pellets, which are listed in the AMMO link. Our ACCESSORIES link lists scopes that can take the power of the RX-2, as well as some targets, cleaning gear and shooting glasses.

Things I liked:It's pretty. Seriously, it's a good looking airgun. Install a nice muzzle cover in place of the front globe sight and it's very slick looking.
Accuracy is excellent, excellent, excellent. I have the .22 caliber rifle and it runs 20 FPE with a variety of midweight pellets. It's a potent hunting gun.

Accuracy is excellent, excellent, excellent. I have the .22 caliber rifle and it runs 20 FPE with a variety of midweight pellets. It's a potent hunting gun.
The firing cycle with the gas ram is very slick. I own several "tuned" spring piston rifles and they come close to, but do not equal the smooth, fast, completely zero vibration *THOCK* you feel on firing this rifle. No buzz, no twang, none of that. A solid thump and the shot is on the way.
Things I would have changed:Not much. I got mine several years ago before the price went up to where it is now. Closing on $800 is a significant amount of money for an airgun for most people. Add good bases, rings, and a scope that will standup to the recoil jolt of this rifle and you are looking at well over $1000. Not that that's bad, but it's creeping out of the affordability range of many people, especially for a gun that's designed almost exclusively for hunting. What others should know:Cocking effort is hard. This rifle is heavy and LONG and thick. I have dedicated benchrest style centerfire varmint rifles that weigh less than this rifle complete with scope and base.

Things I liked:Everything, this is the ultimate hunting machine. Ground squirrels from 20 to 80 yards. Best pellets, Beeman FT's, JSB, Crossman premire. Things I would have changed:I can't think one. What others should know:Shoulder harness, helps on long hunts. It is a little heavy, it is a real mans gun. Love it to death

Things I liked:Accuracy, power, style and consistency. Typical Beeman good trigger and quality. It really is powerful enough for just about any small game. At 25 yards will hit a "Necco" every time. Being able to put the safety back on if I decide not to shoot. Things I would have changed:Definitely put a scope on it and a good one

At 25 yards will hit a "Necco" every time. Being able to put the safety back on if I decide not to shoot. Things I would have changed:Definitely put a scope on it and a good one too. Also a muzzle extension should come with. What others should know:This rifle is HEAVY and has a heavy cocking force so if this bothers you do not get the rifle. On the other hand the weight makes it a much more stable shooting instrument.
