Things I liked: The fit and finish are excellent and the pre tune shot consistency is not bad either. I read a lot of reviews before purchase and everything is as expected. Because I wanted a little more out of my rifle, I sent it out for tune to Will Piatt, at Saddle Mountain Gunsmithing. He did a great job and even added a weaver rail to replace the stock dovetail, as I use that system for my scopes and did not wish to purchase additional rings. My shot consistency is great, with 13 shots between 956 and 875 FPS using 81 grain JSB pellets and 200 bar charge, on a nice true bell curve. Before tune it was 7 shots from 924 to 846 fps in a sloped pressure drop, using same pellets. 924, 908, 903, 888, 876, 867, and 846, still not too shabby. The accuracy is consistent and I can easily hit kill zone in medium game out to 100 yards. Weight and feel are that of traditional center fire hunting rifle, and the iron sites work just like they are supposed to. I will not hesitate to hunt with this rifle.
Things I would have changed: I do not know that there is anything that I would change. It is exactly as expected, a great shooting single shot PCP air rifle that is perfect for hunting small to medium size game. I have heard that the charging handle is the weak link, and breaks, but that is easily remedied. There are multiple aftermarket types available on the net, and gunsmiths who work on these. Is it worth the effort and expense to get a tune? I firmly believe so. At the price of this rifle, an extra 275 - 300 dollars for a tune still puts you under what some of the other rifles are going for, and every stock PCP could benefit from a good tune in order to achieve optimum performance. If this were not true there would not be so many tune parts and services available on the net. Also, this is single shot, so no continual shooting, your F/U shots take a bit longer. If that is an issue, then perhaps a Hatsun, Benjamin, or Evanix would better suit you. I don't mind the single shot, so this is a non issue.
What others should know: Bottom line....Buy what you want out of a PCP air rifle to begin with, don't try to make something into what it is not. If you are looking for an reasonably priced big bore PCP airgun for hunting and plinking, that is well made, has great fit and finish, gets the job done, and can achieve even more with a good tune, then please consider this PCP air rifle. If you are going be held up because this does not shoot like a center fire rifle, and is single shot, I really think you should look elsewhere. I love shooting this Recluse and it is absolutely perfect for what it is. In the future, I may decide to purchase any one of the brands listed above, depending on what type of shooting I decide to do at that time. But for now, I am perfectly satisfied with this rifle. Also, Will Piatt does great work, as many of you know. If you e-mail him he does have discount code for those who are drop shipping to him for tune prior to receipt, a service that in my opinion is well worth it. Don B
Things I liked: This is a mate to my Dragon Claw and I was hopping for a better experience from the Claw Got into PCP after I told my self I wouldn't. My first buy was the Benjamin Discovery and out of the box it leaked what looks from the gauge port O rings, still leaking. Next I bought a Benjamin Marauder. 22 pistol, yep you guessed it, it leaked but was fixed after tighten the foster fill port. Feeling lucky I purchased a .177 Marauder and everything was great out of the box but I wanted a .22 cal Marauder. This was a disaster of a buy, the gauge medal readout came loose and this one leaked air. After removing the plastic lens and repositioning the metal read out and giving the presure gauge a little twist I have it up to par. Feeling lucky I purchase and received my Sam Yang Dragon Claw today. After a few asembley things I tried to pressures the gun, no go so out come the Dawn. Bubbles coming from the Foster fitting, it was a little more then finger tight. It may be the black cloud I live under.
Things I would have changed: Receive a air gun without mechanical problems especially when you pay $900 for the package
Things I liked: The look of it. Very nice wood and I love the artwork on the receiver. I like the fact that it comes with iron sights that are removable. The power is great. Accuracy is very good with the right ammo
Things I would have changed: Make the forearm much longer. Make forearm more bipod ready. Make the trigger adjustable. Make a stainless bolt.
What others should know: This air rifle is very accurate (with JSB 35 cal,81gr pellets and 67 gr round balls) and very loud. There are a lot of casters out there making 35 cal ammo so, it will be easy to get good ammo all the time. This is an "up to" medium sized game air gun and shouldn't be looked upon as a deer rifle. Get the best glass you can afford, you'll love it
how can i replace the o ring at the breech where it closes over the ball on the recluse 9mm
My front fixed blade sight looks bent when viewing through the rear sight. Is this normal, optical illusion? it appears to be straight when rested and viewed from all sides and angles. Is this due to the nature of the guns natural seating in the shoulder? If not, how can it be fixed since it is fixed?
What is the heaviest round that give accuracy and fpe
AERO MAGNUM 128gr Devastators
The best round that i used is the 95 grain it has the range, fpe and accuracy
