Ah yes.  It seems like KWA always has an Ace up their sleeve.  Last week, for those of you that didn't know, was one of my favorite events of the year: Shot Show 2013.  It went down, as usual, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and while I was there, I stopped by the KWA booth to see what was new and exciting for 2013.  Sure, they had some cool things at their booth.  I came. I documented these things.  I left, thinking I obtained all the info there was to know.  Well, sure as I am bald, they threw a curve ball in the mix on Friday, the final day of the show.  They made more announcements previously undisclosed to the general public or even whispered in the dark corridors behind the scenes.

For starters, one of their more exciting pistols to be released (maybe) this year, is a licensed replica of the Sphinx SDP (Special Duty Pistol) Compact.  If you've ever had the luxury of shooting a Sphinx firearm, you'd know just how wonderful these handguns are.  They're comfortable, accurate and easy to handle.  I would imagine the KWA airsoft version will cover all those bases for a home run as well.

According to the copy supplied by KWA on their website, they're marketing this as the "airsoft training counterpart to the Sphinx SDP Compact."  With a statement like that, I'd expect them to attempt to mimic the firearm in every way allowable, which, undoubtedly, will make for a great Airsoft gun.

Here is a copy of some of the features & specs, which I've literally copied & pasted from their website:
"The Sphinx SDP (Special Duty Pistol) Compact by KWA is the exclusive airsoft training counterpart to the Sphinx SDP Compact. The disassembly procedures, interchangeable grips, and standard fire controls found on the firearm are recreated. The Construction of the Sphinx SDP frame combines aluminum alloy and polymer for dubilty and weight savings."

Here are some technical specifications ("Tech Specs") on the KWA Sphinx SDP Compact:
Magazine Capacity: 21 rounds
Propellant: Green gas
Inner Barrel Diameter: 6.05mm
Weight:2.09lbs
Velocity: 340-350 FPS, with .20g BB
Special Features:
  • Gas-operated recoil blow back
  • Realistic construction & field stripping
  • Full metal alloy slide
  • Metal alloy upper frame with polymer lower frame
  • Adjustable hop-up
  • Interchangeable grip inserts
  • Ambidextrous decocking lever
  • 3-dot combat sights
  • Front and rear slide serrations
  • Accessory rail

Some of you readers might be all current on all things Airsoft, so you may have already seen the news update on this particular gun from other channels who posted about it last week.  So let's get to the newer stuff that wasn't really talked about during the show.

Just to give you a hint or two, there is a new brand license and something cool and KRISS Vector-related.

CHECK ALL THAT OUT AFTER THE JUMP...

Ah yes, the Mak Daddy, or better known as the KWA MKV, a Russian Makarov-inspired Airsoft gas blowback pistol, which is currently in the works.  Guess who has it available for pre-order.    Yup.  Pyramyd Air

Here is a shot of the KWA MKV below the KWA TT-33, also scheduled for release this year as well.  The MKV is a much more compact gun, while the TT-33 is comparable in size to a full-size standard 1911 pistol.  Both models will have full-metal alloy slides & frames.

The KWA MKV is pretty basic, although it does have one or two unique features about it, but we'll get to those a bit later in this post.

You can see in the photos both above and below that the KWA MKV has a thumb safety switch, and a slide release.  It is, in fact, a semi-automatic gas blowback airsoft pistol so no need to worry about that.
Here is the right side.  Simple, yet sexy.
Somewhat unique to smaller pistols, especially one with so little features to it, is the presence of a lanyard loop for attaching a pistol retention lanyard.  Nice, considering this is definitely going to be one pistol that you do NOT want to lose while running around on the Airsoft field.

The magazine, sadly, must also be compact in order to fit this compact gun, so capacity will likely be limited to around 11 rounds or so.  Since this gun is still a ways from becoming a final production model, that number could change, but like I said, space is limited so you can't rationally expect much in that department.
Another unique feature is the mag release, which is that rounded metal thing just behind the magazine in the image below.  I'm not sure how that's going to play out when it comes to performing a quick mag change with this weapon, but really, this probably wasn't designed for engaging in big, long-winded gun fights.  Me thinks the real steel version was probably intended for use on missions of a more clandestine nature where one or two shots was all you might need, if you get what I'm sayin'.  Eh, comrades?

Lastly, check out the slide way you detach the slide from the frame.  Yep, you pull that trigger guard down to release it.  Kinda cool.  Definitely haven't seen that on any other Airsoft guns I've dealt with yet.  Is it a huge deal?  No.  I just like to try and appreciate the smaller things every once in awhile.

As some of you wonderful readers may already be aware, KWA is going to be releasing the 1911A1 US Army Gas Blowback Pistol in the next few months. This new Airsoft model is actually a replica of an older, ultra sexy WWII style 1911. Not only is this beautiful airsoft gas pistol going to be released to KWA dealers like Pyramyd Air in a few months, but you can already preorder it from them NOW. Just click the following link:https://www.pyramydair.com/s/m/KWA_1911A1_Gas_Blowback_Airsoft_Pistol/2737

In case you needed to see a few more photos of the KWA 1911A1 US Army GBB Pistol before you make your decision on whether you need to add it to your airsoft arsenal, here are a couple more shots for your eyes to feast upon in a visual array of splendor.

Having personally handled this periodic piece with my own powerful hands (alliteration ftw), I can honestly tell you that if you like KWA gas pistols and you like classic 1911s, then you will most certainly be pleased with this new model. If you don't like KWA guns or classic, WWII style Airsoft 1911s, then this obviously isn't the gun for you.

I know that I've reported in the past on the KWA LM4 Gas Blowback Rifle (GBBR) & Electric Recoil Gun (ERG), but since then, KWA has decided to not only douse each model with a bunch of Magpul PTS furniture, but they're also going to be offering the ERG platform in three different lengths:

The SPR length, for the designated marksmen out there.

The Scout, for a versatile, indoor/outdoor option

The CQB, for...well...CQB.

I forgot to ask whether the gas blowback models will also come in these lengths or if it will simply come in the standard 14.5" barrel length.  Oh well.  Now I have a reason to go back!  Haha.

Check out the video wherein I interview Mike from KWA about the new guns.

In this video, I talk to Mike Hou about the new KWA gas blowback pistols which include the KWA 1911A1 US Army edition, KWA MKV (Makarov), KWA TT-33 (Tokarev) & even gave another little shout-out to the KWA HK45 because I'm so attracted to it. I also sank to a new low and sniffed a gun on camera. Granted, it WAS the KWA KRISS Vector, but still. I need to lock it up and keep it professional. It's so hard to do though when you've got that Vector in your hands, because you just lose all your inhibitions. I don't know what else I can do.

KWA HK45 Video Review Update

KWA HK45 GBB Pistol, HK45 Airsoft Pistol, Hk45 Gas blowback gun, green gas blowback guns, Umarex USA, KSC HK45,
One of the many guns that I discussed with Mike from KWA while I was at his office out in the City of Industry last week was the KWA HK45 Gas Blowback Pistol. This lovely, USP-based beauty is set to release coming up in the next two months or so, which is very exciting for me, to say the least, since I've really had a pretty serious man crush on this particular pistol for quite some time now.  Check the vid!

Here's a super quick review of the upcoming KWA M4 CQR series AEGs, which have the same great quality of the regular KWA AEGs, but feature a polymer lower receiver.  This helps to not only cut down on the weight of the gun a bit, but especially helps to cut down on the price of the gun.  The KWA KRISS Vector also makes a little appearance because I said so.  Check out the video to get the full scoop.

Ah...The KWA KRISS Vector Gas Blowback Airsoft SMG

I think that KWA has done a really nice job on this highly sought after Airsoft SMG.  Even though the model featured in these photos that I got to see is still a prototype, subject to changes, it's a working model.  Yes, I got to shoot it.

I'll tell you all about the KWA KRISS Vector after the jump...

While at Shot Show 2012, Mike from KWA USA gives me the rundown on the new KWA ATP Auto GBB Pistol, which is the full-auto version of the highly awesome semi-auto ATP, along with a heads up on their new, original issue WWII-era M1911 GBB and last, but certainly not least, the new and ultra sexy, KWA Makarov gas blowback pistol. They surprised me with that one. Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but I did not know they'd be dropping that one on us. It was pretty awesome. Here's the video:

Hello and good day to you, fair Pyramyd Airsoft Blog reader. Today's article on the KWA TKV-33 prototype Tokarev gas blowback pistol was made possible by a generous donation of time and gas money from a very good friend and Airsoft/Photography mentor, Dave Bakholdin Photography.

He did so in hopes that the three of you who read my ramblings here might have something enjoyable to look at while you wrap up your Friday and get ready for (hopefully) a weekend full of playing Airsoft rather than sort through a seemingly endless slough of my sometimes-boring words.

Also, a special thanks to KWA Performance Industries, Inc. for allowing Dave and I to visit them back in July (July 12th, to be precise).

Just to give you an over view of the fun we had while shooting guns (with a camera, not with our trigger fingers), here's a shot of all the KWA guns they had waiting for us to oggle over...

That'd be me, Tom Harris, getting my mind blown by all the awesome KWA guns, including the TKV-33, laying before me in the KWA board room/photostudio.

As it turns out, I find myself increasingly attracted to the KRISS Vector series of submachine guns.
KWA KRISS Vector, Airsoft KRISS, Airsoft Vector, Airsoft submachine guns, Airsoft Sphinx Pistol, Sphinx 3000 compact 9mm, KRISS Super V action, Pyramyd Airsoft Blog, Tom Harris Media,
So I thought instead of just being increasingly attracted to it, I would also tell people that I'm increasingly attracted to it here on the Pyramyd Airsoft Blog.  Thus, I dug up some old photos from my fantastical adventures with my brother, Todd, at Shot Show 2011 back in January of this year to reminisce about the initial introduction between the KRISS Super V Vector submachine gun and I at the KWA Performance Industries Booth, which was conveniently located just across the aisle from the actual KRISS Systems booth, so as to allow me to go back and forth between the two, breathing heavily the glass display cases, the booth staff and the guns themselves, all with stale breath composed primarily of the odors from several meals at Chipotle and massive amounts of booze consumed during the prior evenings adventures at various adult beverage establishments throughout the world-famous Las Vegas Strip.  I did try brushing my teeth and using Listerine to help mask my activities, but when you combine the awesome powers of Chipotle and delicious Fat Tire ale on tap from a sweet Irish pub in the New York New York, it's nearly impossible to combat such forces.

I would like to issue a delayed apology to the KWA and KRISS/SPHINX/DEFIANCE staff who had to endure my foul, hot-garbage breath.  I'd especially like to apologize to the KRISS Vector guns I fondled while breathing said hot-garbage breath on them, as well as the beautiful SPHINX pistols and DEFIANCE suppressors.

I hope they'll forgive me and just chalk it up to "good times in The Vegas."

So anyway,

For the few of you that read my blog, but don't keep up with the first-person shooter gaming circuit, the KRISS Vector became rather popular among the gaming & Airsoft crowd when the French-designed, Swiss-made submachine gun appeared in the super extra popular video game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as one of the weapon options players could use to "pwn" other players while streaming live game play over a LAN or Wi-Fi internet connection, using audio headphones equipped with microphones.  These headsets allow COD gamers to taunt either their friends or total strangers somewhat anonymously using harsh words against the other's mothers, sisters, and/or favorite Catholic priests after "killing" the opponent using the KRISS Vector SMG.  Good clean fun for the whole family.  I should note that it was not the beautifully precision-engineered Vector which caused these individuals to behave this way (The Swiss like to keep it in neutral).  It was probably Eminem, Marilyn Manson, R-Rated Movies and/or Satan himself that convince these individuals to say things that would make Charles Manson blush.  Probably a combination of all four.  It was definitely NOT the result of poor or non-existent parenting.  That's never the case.

So with that tiny background blurb, check out my KRISS photo update to see why so many people, including Airsoft bloggers like me, think this submachine gun is so groovy.

FIRST!!!
KWA HK45 Prototype, Airsoft Gas Blowback Pistol, Airsoft Guns, New Airsoft Guns Photos, Pyramyd Airsoft Blog, Tom Harris Media,
I know what you're thinking.  You probably saw the title of the blog or a photo somewhere else linking to this post and were excited to see a new Airsoft prototype from KWA, but then upon your arrival to the Pyramyd Airsoft Blog, you saw that I said, "FIRST" like all those idiots on Facebook & YouTube do and then you were like, "Damnit, Tom. I hate you now."  Well, to those of you who felt this way upon your arrival, I do sincerely apologize, but if you were the first one in the world outside of KWA themselves to get access with camera to the uber-sexy new licensed Heckler & Koch HK45 gas blowback pistol, you'd also probably want to rub it in a bit and/or do something out of your ordinary character because of the outright win that you've just accomplished.  Sorry, bro.  But sometimes you gotta toot your own horn.  I promise not to make it a habit.  But I was excited. The HK45 is amazing and I wanted to shout about it from a mountain top.  Instead, I yelled, "FIRST!" like a child.  If you're willing to forgive me on this one (or even if you're not), go ahead and click the link below to check out the smorgasbord of KWA HK45 pics I've uploaded.  I've also got some particulars about the gun's features for you as well.  There may or may not be a video that I'll be adding in the next few days as well, depending on the alignment of the astronomical clock and all that happy horse stuff.

Please keep in mind that the following images are of a prototype and that some features pictured here today could change by the time it ends up available for sale to the public.  So don't get too excited about anything too specific on the gun just yet.  Disappointment is lame, so I don't want to set you up for it without a fair warning.

INTRODUCING THE NEW KWA HK45 GBB PISTOL

Trust me, I've already given Michael Hou a ration of shizzle for forgetting failing to mention the upcoming release of the UMAREX-Licensed, KWA HK45 USP-Based Gas Blowback Pistol while Dave Bakholdin & I were hanging out ALL DAY at KWA last week, taking pictures of their new 2011 Airsoft guns.  He loves to play these kinds of pranks on me.  Anyway, check out the KWA HK45 video that Mr. Allen P. Lizard (Allizard) of KWA just uploaded on his YouTube page...

I'll be honest: I was super stoked for THIS Airsoft gas blowback pistol to be released in August, but now I'm questioning my loyalty to it with the news of the new HK45.

As legit as I believe the KWA ATP will be, it already seems like the old & boring S.O. and the KWA HK45 is like the hot young 20-something brunette (with highlights) who's fresh with vibrant energy and a belief in trying anything once.

I think the HK45 GBB Pistol is going to be an absolutely delectable choice for the serious Mil-Sim player looking for a reliable sidearm to take out to the field with them.  Of course, I could be wrong.  It could be complete garbage.  But with KWA's pretty outstanding reputation in the Airsoft & Professional Training industries, the chances of this Airsoft gas blowback pistol being anything less than stupendous is considerably low.

Another gem from KWA's unreleased collection of superior Airsoft guns is the KWA M945 Compact GBB pistol.  It's a 1911-based gas blowback pistol.  I wasn't too wild about this particular model when I saw it at Shot Show back in January of this year, but that was mainly because it was over-shadowed by all the buzz about the KWA KRISS Vector and the updated H&K licensing for KWA's USP series, courtesy of Umarex.  However, after spending some one on one time with the M945 in KWA's conference war room, Dave & I were both taken aback by its tiny glory.  Who's Dave, you say?  Oh, well he's the guy who took these sweet photos for me.  Check out more photos and some new teaser videos from Airsoft Squared after the jump...

With all the madness of SB 798 still afoot, I'd suggest leaving those orange tips alone for *hopefully* obvious reasons.

As fate would have it, the new KWA H&K MK23 USSOCOM airsoft gas blowback pistol has made it on to my exclusive "Must-Have" Airsoft guns list.  It's certainly not the first KWA to make that list, though.  You may have noticed that the Pyramyd Airsoft Blog was a bit quiet last week and I do apologize but I am pretty sure I can make it up to you.  I spent the better part of last week hanging out with a bunch of new guns from a bunch of Airsoft manufacturers (brands).  Naturally, I couldn't just keep the details of those new guns to myself, so I made sure that plenty of photos were taken to document this monstrous wave of new stuff.  KWA had so many guns, that I enlisted the help of my favorite Russian Airsoft photographer, Dave Bakholdin of Bakholdin Photography.  Together, we spent the better part of last Tuesday snapping photos over at KWA USA headquarters in smoggy & occassionally foggy, Southern California.  While we were there, I desperately tried to pry as much super secret information about the coveted KRISS Vector Airsoft SMG & any other new KWA goodies on the horizon from of KWA Superstars, Allen Lau & Michael Hou.  However, they were very "vault-like" (like...the state-of-the-art extra-locked kind).  Allen actually asked me if I'd like the opportunity to avoid a hammer fist to the temple if I would stop asking questions about KWA's classified intel.  Just kidding, but I think he secretly wanted to.  Truth be told, Allen & Mike could not have been nicer to us and even gave me a quick tour of the premises at the end of the day.   It was a surreal thing to experience hanging out in a sleek, professional office building with the sound of Airsoft AEGs and gas blowback guns being fired behind locked doors down the hall.  Just knowing that there was something super secret going on behind those doors really upped the "awesome factor" of the day.

But enough jibber jabber.

The Pyramyd Air website got a face lift!!!

new pyramyd air website, airsoft guns, pyramyd airsoft blog, airsoft news,

For those of you, like me, that are allergic to change of any kind, there's good news. You can still access the old version of the website at Pyramyd Air. The new layout is still in the "Beta testing" phase, so in order to see it, you'll have to go to the following url for the time being: /airsoft.  Truth be told, I'm actually pretty happy about the change.  I think the new site is much more navigable and user-friendly.

After the jump, I've discussed some of the new or updated features that I appreciate or think are cool, plus a sneak peak at the new KWA guns and updates for other manufacturers on new goodies that I've got lined up to show you... CLICK HERE
