Those Who Came Before
Let’s take a step back from our world of archery and take a few moments to remember what today, July 4th or Independence day represents. I’m not a history buff, but I do realize the footsteps or the handwriting of those who came before, have an immense impact on those of us who come after.
What does that provoke you to think of? Does it create a thankfulness to all those that have fought for the freedoms we have today? For those who spent the time to create a document that expressly stands for the people’s freedom? The Declaration of Independence was written and signed for you and for me.
Personal Provocation
May I share with you my personal provocations? Oh, that’s right, this is my blog, I am The Bow Bully! Why am I asking? Along with a gratitude to those that came before and laid the foundation for my freedom, it also provokes me to consider the footsteps or handwriting I leave behind.
I may not be writing documents like the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution, I may not be heard by millions of people, but the fight for our freedom doesn’t start there. It starts on an individual level, with you and I. It’s you and I appreciating the freedoms given to us. It’s being responsible in the very things we get to do to be able to continue to enjoy them.
Responsibility is key, and requires you to consider others. Those who are here with us now and those that will come after us. Everything we do as individuals plays a part in the future of all. When a father, grandmother, friend, or mentor teaches a child the responsibility of shooting, driving, and standing for what’s right, they are impacting lives now and forever.
A Better State
Wow, that’s big right? Does it make you consider your next interaction with someone? May we all consider the interactions with all we come into contact with and leave them in a better state then we found them.
Independence Day, the freedom to independently care about others and leave in their hands the same key you hold, and that is the opportunity to keep freedom safe by the choices you make.
While we take the day off work and enjoy cookouts with friends and family, let’s consider every interaction with the person in front of you as an opportunity to leave a footprint or some penmanship to affect their future for the good. I’m not talking about kicking anyone to the curb or writing them off. That is not considering them, and that’s what we’re talking about here, the effect we have on others.
I now give you permission, you can step back into the archery world, (I know you don’t need my permission, I’m just getting back into character). Get your Killer Instinct SWAT X1 Crossbow out and share the responsibility with another. Set up your favorite target like the Delta McKenzie Bear 3D target and help pave the road to a free future for those you may never know.
Good words for this day.
People out west may have to shoot bows from inside their teepee.
Just asked a friend in Arizona what he uses on his body when he steps into the sun. Shake N Bake or Barbeque Sauce?
Never forget, or rewrite, our history!
Enjoy the freedom.
I have received a reply, “Everybody knows we use Crisco.”
Good and true words of wisdom, Bow Bully.
TBB
Well said. I particularly agree with the part about leaving things better than you find them. I try to do that when in the woods hunting or on the water when fishing. I also try to do that in my everyday life hoping, I guess, to set a good example for my grandkids. With luck,, they might notice.
