An After Christmas, Christmas Story.
Frank’s daughter Jessica asked for a bow to go bowfishing with. That’s not a bad thing to ask for, right? Of course not! Do you think she got it? No, not yet, and I’ll tell you why. It is a common thing for children to think they know what’s best for themselves (Adults can be the same way). There’s also a common train of thought that when they want something, they need it now. Dad knew what would be good for his daughter and planned accordingly.

Daddy Knows His Little Girl
She loves the Cajun Sucker Punch Pro Bowfishing RTF Package. Her dad suspects the love is not necessarily for the bow but the color. Frank is inclined to give in. Not to appease her and fulfill her every desire, but because the draw weight is adjustable from 20-50 lbs. and it’s extremely lightweight at 3 lbs. Those two features seem to encourage a successful entry into the sport.
As a parent, can you count how many times you invested in something for your child to only find out they hate it and would rather go on living as far away from that very thing as possible? I understand the disappointment and considerate “waste” of money. On the other hand, it is important that they realize they don’t like something because it’s not for them, rather than because the equipment made it impossible to experience success.
Ice Covered Ground
The first thing that deterred him from getting Jessica set up is that they live in Michigan! She’d have to have one heck of a bow to cut through the ice right now and for the next few months. The freezing climate and would hinder her from being able to use it any time soon. Dad had something else in mind.
Jessica had never been bowfishing or shot a bow, so he decided he was going to get her something she could practice with now. He knew the perfect thing! The Bear Legit Compound Bow. This bow will grow with her. She can set it a light draw weight for her many hours of practice ahead. Bowfishing is fast-paced, and is much different than bow hunting. That doesn’t mean Frank can’t get his daughter accustomed to the motions necessary to shoot a bow some other way and train her for other things at the same time.
Not Yet!
When she laid eyes on the box, she knew her wish had come true! She couldn’t wait to open it but Frank told her to wait. I have a few other things I’d like you to open first. When she opened the first box, it startled her a little when she saw what seemed to be an eyeball staring back at her. After realizing it wasn’t a living being, she pulled it out to come face to face with a Real Wild Armadillo 3D Archery Target. A little confused, she pulled two more Real Wild 3D targets out of another box, the Gopher & Raccoon.
She couldn’t help but wonder, what does this have to do with my new Cajun Sucker Punch Pro? Jessica looked at her dad and asked, “Can I open it now?” Her dad took her hand and said, “First, let’s go set these up outside and take a little walk.” She grabbed her dad’s hand and followed him through the back door.

She spotted a Delta McKenzie Speedbag placed carefully in the snow. They set down the 3D targets and began their slow walk to what is normally a wavering pond. Frank said, “Honey, you see that pond over there? It doesn’t look much like water right now; it looks more like an ice pie. How long do you reckon it’s going to stay like that?”
Did Dad Make A Mistake?
Jessica said, “I don’t know Dad, until spring time, I guess.” Her dad took her hand, led her back inside, and handed her the box she wanted to open first. Before anyone had a chance to say anything, Jessica had the Bear Legit Compound bow out of the box and in her itchy little hands!
She gazed, jaw dropped and eyes wide. She didn’t know what to say, so she sat in silence awaiting an explanation…
To be continued…
