I just picked up a used old model talon ss is there an easy way to tell the caliber there are no markings I can see to tell
Just take a look at the barrel with a set of calipers or a measuring tape. That'll tell you close enough
I have the following compressor:PORTER-CABLE 6-Gallon Electric Pancake Air Compressor. 150-PSI, 6-gal Porter Cable air compressor delivers long run time. Will this compressor fully charge the tank on this rifle? Thanks
No, you need a compressor that is capable of outputting 3000 psi
the stuff is ready ? if sent to indonesia taxable? and how much shipping to indonesia?
Read shipping restrictions at bottom of the page.
Is there a specific air tank for the .177 for the airforce talon or is it one tank for all calibers?
The Talon-SS rifle does use a different valve on the tank which is smaller in relation to the Condor models , ( doesn't use as much air per shot ) . You can't use a Condor tank with the larger valve for .177 caliber , just 20 caliber on up. For the Talon -SS the tank it comes can be used for all calibers , it just doesn't put out as much air per shot as the more powerful Condor with the larger valve. More shots per fill.
What sight axis to bore axis distance seems to allow a decent cheek weld with this? It just looks like that tank may get in the way.
Airforce makes a Tri-Rail to raise the scope to a normal height. Airforce Try-Rail #PY-A-427 .
Why does the shroud seem to have so much effect on velocity? It seems like if I get a .25 caliber in anything shrouded it suddenly doesn't have the velocity or take down power for coyotes.
The AirForce shrouded guns cover barrels that are 6" shorter than their unshrouded counterparts. Shorter barrels equate to less power. When you buy a gun with a shrouded barrel, you give up power to get less sound. It's a trade off.
I'm trying to save up for talon ss now and they at AFAGs said you if you have the 25cal t/ss that you can get the co,for tank and a striker weight on the hammer and you have a little shorty condor or basically and escape ss but with a bigger tank
It's not the shroud, it's the barrel length difference. I'm not sure why the shrouded versions are all shorter barrels, I'm assuming to make the guns equal total length
The shroud should have no effect on velocity i would think ? It is only for sound suppression . It might require a bigger caliber to take a coyote , like say a Texan in .357 caliber or .308 or something bigger like the .45 caliber? Only a guess ?
Is this gun a spiral bore or a smooth bore barrel?
I think the Lothar Walther barrel has a 1:16 twist?
It has a rifled barrel . Not smooth bore.
I forgot to ask ... When a person goes to use CO2 in the Talon SS, which tank does he use for the shoulder stock so that the LOP stays the same?
Co2 tanks are larger in diameter than the regular HPA tank . Im not aware of any shoulder stock that fits these Co2 tanks . Good luck with that.
Has anyone actually put the 18" barrel (of any caliber) into the Talon SS? Does it just look like the Talon with 6 inches of non-shrouded barrel sticking out at the muzzle? What I am really asking is does the "SoundLock" portion of the 12" shroud still perform if the 18" barrel is in the gun?
An 18 inch barrel will be even with the shroud and will not be suppressed , it can only be suppressed if the barrel is shorter than the shroud . I have a Talon-SS with a 24 inch barrel and it extends past the shroud 6 inches and is not suppressed. If you look at a Condor- SS it uses an 18 inch barrel but the shroud is long enough for the Sound-Loc to work (check out the measurements ) . The Talon-P has a shorter shroud so an 18 inch barrel would extend 6 more inches past the shroud and not be suppressed , and 24 inch would extend another 12 inches past the shroud .
Will this rifle kill a deer or boar
It would take a great deal of luck as well as skill to do so. The condor and the talon only go as far as 25 caliber . I would suggest the texan which comes in three big bore calibers 45 , 30 , and 9mm. I'm sure one of those could do that.
i come from viet nam , i want to buy Benjamin Marauder PCP Air Rifle, Synthetic Stock.22 caliber. can you transport ?
Call 888-262-4867 to talk to a sales rep. They could answer your question.
Can the tank be taken off easily and put back on so I can throw it in a backpack like a take down airgun
With the spin-loc system it is a little more involved , just remember to bring the wrench that comes with the gun.I have the older ones the talon ss,condor, and talon-p and they just unscrew much easier. But yes it can be done.
Don't know if to get the talon ss in .22 or .25
Well if you buy the .22 caliber then you could always buy the .25 caliber barrel and switch back and forth ? I have all four calibers .177 , .20 ,. 22 , and .25 thats what makes this gun so cool to own - the ability to change calibers in minutes. Also own the condor and the talon-p as well as the talon ss .
.177 talon ss --- is it good for hunting I am thanking about getting a way from powder burners?
Yes it is a good choice for hunting , power ,changing calibers , very adjustable and accurate and quiet for a variety of situations . also cost less to shoot .
Will I need ear protection? I plan on buying the 22 cal. Version.
No the SS model is very quiet . I got mine in .177 cal. sounds like a nail gun with a muffler . Unless you have sensitive hearing , not loud to me. I installed a 24 inch barrel and now it is louder , now a nail gun without a muffler.
Can I use a high flow condor bottle on a talon ss?
For proper operation you will need to purchase the striker weight # AirForce Striker Weight... it only runs 9.95. Pull the barrel out and install behind the spring. It changes a talon into a condor by having the weight hit the valve harder releasing more air.
Because of where I live, the attribute of "quiet" in an airgun is of supreme importance. Regarding how much noise a Talon SS or a Condor SS makes, describing the noise as "3-Medium" and "kinda loud" is too ambiguous to be helpful for me. Are there any reliable outdoor dB numbers available? Thanks!
I have the .22 Tallon SS. The only noise I hear when firing is the clanking of the internals and the pellet striking the target. There is no report in the traditional sense.
Talon SS in .22 is about 99Dbi. Smaller calibers are LOUDER so you may want to go up to .25
Articles i have read say the condor SS is around 99.5 DB's in 22 caliber so I'm sure a .177 caliber in the talon SS with sound-loc would be queiter . My hatsan QE Long in 22 caliber is rated at 68 DB's. Just a comparison .
How long or how many pumps does it talke to full from 2000 to 3000 psi with a pump?
Using a Benjamin hand pump I went from 0-2900 PSI, using 2 second strokes (1 up and 1 down) took 15 minutes not counting 2 breaks to allow the pump to cool. Going back from 2k -3k is usually only 5 minutes of 2-second pumps
In my experience I've never actually counted but i would say at least 100 to 150 pumps. I never completely empty my tank that way it doesn't take so long to fill it. I f I'm going to shoot a lot i bring an extra tank. Its a great work out though to fill an empty tank! They say 400 to 500 pumps from empty.
When the safety button in a safe position, the striker could be stuck, then, the safety button on the back of less than a firing position
Mine has the original safety , 12 years old now. No issues so far , works as designed. Can be decocked without having to fire a round.
Re: .177 cal. Talon SS,-- How much effect does the power wheel have on velocity? Does it actually reduce velocity to around 500 fops for indoor shooting? I have read comments that it basically has no effect on velocity on the newer models.
The power wheel is for fine adjustments. For greater changes (600-800FPS) you may need to make adjustments to the top hat or install an o-ring behind the top hat
The only real way to answer this question is to chrony test each setting of the power wheel to get a true idea of the effect of the wheel on velocity.Another way is to purchase a Co2 adaptor i understand that velocities are reduced 400 to 500 F.P.S. which would be ideal for indoor shooting.
I want to know the length, height, width of the talon ss frame ?
Overall length with tank is 32 3/4 inches , frame only is 22 inches long , the widest point measured at 1 1/2 inches and is 7 inches tall.Tank is 2 1/2 inches in diameter and 13 1/2 inches long.
HOW DO YOU GO ABOUT FILLING THE AIR RESERVOIR?CAN A COMMERCIAL AIR COMPRESSOR BE USED TO FILL THE IT?
You can use a pump made by air force or a carbon fiber tank that is refillable.A commercial air compressor doesn't produce enough pressure to fill it , you would need a special compressor that cost 3000.00 to do the job, and then you could fill the refillable tank and fill the reservoir.
If you get a .25 caliber rifle, can you buy other caliber barrels for it?
Yes other calibers are available.Changing calibers only takes less than ten minutes.
Which connecter is needed for filling the SS with the Hill pump?
If it is a spin-loc tank you will not need an additional connector
how to fill the air for talon ss without removing the air reservoir
Enter this in the search "PY-A-4926" That is what you need
Does The Talon SS 25 cal come with a HI-Flow tank or a standard one ?
It comes with the standard Tank
Does this Talon SS come with sound-loc baffles installed or is that an option?
The "SS" indicates the gun includes sound-loc baffle pre-installed
Yes, mine did. That's what the SS stands for super silent.
Shots per fil?
on the lowest power, upwards of 100. Max power, maybe 30-40. There's no point in using max power with the 12" barrel, the pellet will be long gone before the valve finishes releasing air.
anywhere from 50 to 100 shots per fill depending on the power setting you use
