Things I liked:

Very sweet shooting gun for the money. Cocking effort is light considering the power. Trigger is relatively crisp for this price range. Sights are very good though somewhat delicate. Accuracy is also very good (1/2' at 25 yards)

Things I would have changed:

Higher quality mainspring(mine broke at 7000 rounds), better scope mount rails

What others should know:

Though powerful, the light cocking effort makes it a pleasure to shoot. More than enough power for squirrels and jays

Things I liked:

I have waited a while to do this review after my purchase. I bought 2 of these guns in .22 in July, one of which was for my father. The gun is clearly priced as an entry gun. It has a nice looking stock and is powerful. Both guns averaged around 730 FPS with 14 grain pellets in the 10 for ten tests, but with high variability indicating much dieseling - they both smoked for a long time. I like the entry price, look, weight, power, and balance of the gun.

Things I would have changed:

The poor trigger and poor reliability are the gun's biggest drawbacks. Neither shot even close to accurately until I put in Charlie's GRT-III triggers. The scope mounts are junk, and the scope is OK to start but won't last long term on a gun that fires as harshly as this. I suggest Crosman ditch the scope and sell it with just open sights, and put the money in the trigger and make sure the mainspring is more reliable. The price could stay the same and customers would get a robust entry shooter with good power at a fair price/profit.

What others should know:

Out of two guns purchased, both failed. My father's gun had the sear and anti-beartrap mechanism fail at around 50 shots - the barrel slammed shut without the trigger being pulled, with the safety on. The barrel bent and the stock broke, but fortunately no fingers were near the breech. PA exchanged the gun with no problem. My father's new gun is still under 700 shots, 300 of which I did without the scope mounted to start to get it to settle in for him. On mine, the front scope mount failed almost immediately necessitating buying a new mount (one piece), then the scope stopped holding zero at around 700 shots, and the mainspring broke at around 1400 shots. Rather than go the warranty route (Crosman would likely have replaced it and set me back to square one on breaking it in), I sent it to Gene in SC for a Turbo Tune. My gun has turned out to be quite a nice little shooter, but the final cost was $300 (original gun plus $30 trigger and $150 fix/tune), plus more for another scope. Mine now chronys at 700 FPS with Beeman FTS 14.6 grain pellets (the best for my gun), and I can get 1/2" 10 shot groups rested at 20 yards, so I'm reasonably happy with it. My father's, without the tune, is not as accurate and is a lot harsher to shoot, but he still likes it - I just wonder when his will fail too. I wish I had spent less money in the end by spending a little more up front for the much superior RWS-34, or at least the Nitro NPSS.

A little bit to hard to cock back but you get used to it because its so addicting to shoot

    Things I liked:

Good value for the money. A very powerful gun (I purchased the .22 caliber). The fiber optic sights are great. I did not try the scope. Build quality is very good for the cost.

    Things I would have changed:

Redesign the cocking mechanism to make it a little easier to cock this gun.

    What others should know:

After trying out this rifle a few times, I returned it because the cocking action is very difficult, a real arm-buster. I had never tried a break-barrel gun and wasn't prepared for how hard it is to cock this gun. It discouraged me from wanting to use it, so I am replacing it with a CO2-powered gun. If the designers could devise some kind of articulated linkage to reduce the effort needed, it would make using this gun much more pleasurable. While the CO2 gun will not have the power of the Quest 800, it won't wear out my left arm either. But if you don't have a problem cocking this gun, it is a great value.

Power, accuracy, price. At 25 yds this gun is within 1/2 inch of what I aim at, shot after shot. The .22 pellet is devastating on small/medium pests. The premier hollow points perform very well. Nothing else on the market can touch this gun at this price.

    Things I would have changed:

Longer barrel to ease cocking effort. Nothing else,

    What others should know:

Got my first model 760 (wood stock back then) at 13, late 1960's. Wore out three of them, shooting very often, over about a six year period. Loyal Crosman customer. I also have the Quest 1000X, but the 800 is my favorite.

    Things I liked:

Extremely Accurate right out of the box.

    Things I would have changed:

Trigger is hard to pull through second stage and this can not be adjusted out. This does hurt accuracy.

    What others should know:

There are at least two different aftermarket triggers available for it but at a cost of about $30 to $37. But this gun is worth it!!! Scope is very nice too.

    Things I liked:

Very smooth cocking. Way good power for price. Good weight and feel for steadier shots. The three Stock screws already have locktite on them, and where tight . (Until I checked them). Workmanship seems just fine for country shooting. Gun shoots close groups consistently if held artillery style. Stock finished very well but not fancy. Recoil pad is nice for shoulder hold and easier cocking against your leg or hip. I like the fiber optic site idea.

    Things I would have changed:

Open sites are pretty flimsy but adequate if your careful with them. Have a more defined trigger release point. (Crisper). Add Zoom scope.

    What others should know:

Sites are flimsy but a lot of these break-barrels don't even have them because scopes are mounted after barrel break in anyway. I think this defers the cost a little.( Although I like open sites) Have not mounted the supplied scope yet but seems OK from the looks of it. May change to better mounts but will try supplied mounts first. (Already paid for). I am using Crosman Premier Hollows @ 14.3 grams (I think), and they seem to work fine. I am very careful when loading to press pellet flush to barrel breech and not use my fingernails as this will nick the pellet skirt and accuracy may suffer. Overall??? Yea!! This weapon IS usable for critter control at a fair price. That's what I wanted. Would buy another.

    Things I would have changed:

    make it a little lighter

    What others should know:

This is my first springer so it took me a while to get used to it. After a few dozen shots I was frustrated with my inability to hit the target. I kept at it, and used the 'artillery hold' and after 100 shots I started hitting what I aimed at. After 150 shots I learned the trigger well enough to shoot respectable groups. I still like the light weight - no recoil pump rifle I used to use, but the power of this rifle with just one 'pump' (cocking) beats the hell out of 8 pumps on the old one.

    Things I liked:

The hardwood stock is awesome and durable when hiking or going on a trip through the woods. Personally I prefer a gun with regular sights, and the Quest 800x has great red and green sights. The accuracy is good enough for me considering that all I shoot is squirrels and crows basically. The power behind the .22 caliber pellet is great for taking down a lot of small game. The Quest 800x is a good investment for anyone who wants an inexpensive but all round great pellet gun

    Things I would have changed:

Since I don't really need the scope, I would just take it out of the package so I would only be paying for the gun.

    What others should know:

At first it was so hard to start cocking the gun that I had to use a rubber mallet to "break" the barrel.

    Things I liked:

Price... (remember this includes a Center Point scope). Crosman reputation for value and fun. The front fiber optic sight gets you on target fast. Hits HARD.

    Things I would have changed:

With well deserved respect to Crosman value (quality vs. price), not a darn thing. Criticism of the Center Point scope, IMHO, is undeserved...the mounts ARE a problem.

    What others should know:

I'm a retired older guy who wants to "quietly" and inexpensively keep shooting in his backyard. The online reviews and "wisdom" were very helpful in selecting the Crosman 800 Quest as my "get in the game" novice gun. So here are my thoughts. This is "NOT" for a child; it has considerable heft to it and takes effort to cock. The fixed rear sights (some plastic), are easy to adjust and more than adequate. If you are a novice air rifle shooter like me, be patient with yourself, the gun, and the ammo that you are using. The "artillery hold" and choice of ammo DO make a difference. To start, the Quest is a confidence builder with fixed sights at 30ft. and within a week I was getting nice groupings at 30yds. with Crosman Premiers. The "included" Center Point scope was very frustrating to keep zeroed in. With recommendations from other shooters, I recently replaced the two piece mounts/rings with the Accushot 25M4 Med one piece mount, and using JSB Diablo Jumbo Exact pellets I'm getting pretty consistent quarter size groupings at 30 yards. I'm enjoying this rifle more and more.

    Things I liked:

This .22 Rifle has really got some nice power out of the box. At 35 yards it will sink Crosman Premier 14.3 Grains, Hollowpoint rounds 1/4"-3/8" into a pine 2'x4' No rounds bounce off only sink in nice. For a 800 fps Rifle that is a keeper in my collection. The gun sounds good and is well worth the money. I am happy to own this rifle. This gun drops small game in one shot at 35-40 yards or less. There are lots of tune kits for this gun from springs and triggers to pistons. For the price this rifle will hold its own. It is a great rifle in its class. I have a collection of Air Rifles and I am glad to add this one to it. I have Industry Brand B3-3s to a Evanix AR6 and a HW77K and many more and this Quest is a great Rifle in it class.

    Things I would have changed:

I will add a nice scope and C.T Tuna trigger.

    What others should know:

Buy one and add it to your Air gun collection.

    Things I liked:

I love this rifle. The gun feels great in your hands , is very well balanced and packs a very good punch. I tried numerous ammo and found the Crosman pointed field and hunting to be the most accurate. This rifle will go right through 1/2" plywood and 3/4" pine boards,so be careful of backstop.

    Things I would have changed:

The scope took a long time to zero and the optics are only so-so. The fiber optic sights work well but are made of cheap plastic.

    What others should know:

Do not dry fire this rifle it says in the fine print in the manual it will cause damage to the rifle. Fire 150 rounds through this to brake it in. After the break in the grouping got much, much better. Reliability reviews have only been average with this rifle, but I hope this is not the case with mine I have fired over 300 rounds so far and the gun is only getting better. I would suspect that the people who have had reliability issues may have dry-fired the gun ( which is never a good idea with any springer).

    Things I liked:

PRICE and 22 HITTING POWER. This airgun is very accurate for target shooting (non-competition), but great for QUIETLY taking out pests on your property! $115 dollars from Pyramyd-Air is a great deal for a pellet gun! Spending more than that is a waist of money because you could buy a really nice .22LR or .17HMR rifle for the price you would pay for a more expensive airgun!!!!!!! Overall I am VERY pleased with this airgun, and give it a Five Star Rating!!!

    Things I would have changed:

NO SCOPE!!! While the trigger is not too bad, I would ditch the scope and use the extra money to make the trigger even better. If you decide to mount the scope, I recommend you do it after the “break-in” period. My Crosman 800X finally broke-in/calmed-down after 150 pellets. The recoil and reverse recoil were too much for my scope, and it could no longer hold zero after 25 pellets. At first I thought maybe my Crosman 800X was just an inaccurate airgun. I took my scope off because most of the “reviewers” (on PyramydAir.com) said it was a junk scope. Wow, what a difference! I can shoot 1” groups at 25yds (i.e. 75ft, 22.86m), with the fiber optic sites, from a rest, on a sunny day.

    What others should know:

Pellets... My #1 favorite pellet for my Crosman 800X is the GAMO MAGNUM 15.89gr pellets. Some of the skirts may be a little out of round, but don’t let that fool you. They must conform to the bore as they’re traveling down it, because these pellets are VERY accurate! I bought 8 different types of pellets from Pyramyd-Air, and the Gamo Magnum pellets are the only pellets to sink the deepest into a 2”x4” piece of wood! No other pellet came close!!! They are very impressive!!! My #2 pick is the Crosman Pointed 14.3gr pellets. They are VERY accurate! My #3 pick is the Gamo Match Wadcutter 13.88gr pellets. They’re VERY accurate and mushroom out the best!!! The Crosman Premier Domed 14.3gr pellets and the Beeman Crow-Magnum 18.2gr pellets are my two biggest disappointments for my Crosman 800X. The Crosman Domed pellets take longer to load into the breech of this airgun, which is not good when one needs a fast follow-up shot while hunting! The Crow-Magnums are so heavy, they’re all over the place... VERY INACCURATE!!! I recommend that you shoot pellets that weight 13gr to 16.5gr! I’ve researched and studied spring-piston airguns and found that pellets that are too light or too heavy can prematurely wear out the spring... plus, they’re very inaccurate in the Crosman 800X! Don’t leave this airgun cocked for long periods of time, and retighten the screws on the stock by the breech because they loosen up a little from the recoil after shooting about 100 pellets or so.

I like every thing about this gun, the wood stock has a good finish on it. the blue on the metal barrel looks great. this gun has plenty of power, for the price you can't go wrong. been shooting this gun for the last three weekends and having a blast with the grandson.

    Things I would have changed:

Like to be able to order without the scope, maybe upgraded sights, or better trigger, but don't get me wrong still a great gun.

    What others should know:

I have not mounted the scope,so I have no opinion on it, I want to use the gun with open sights. once zeroed in i hit everything i aim at. Still checking different pellets for the best flight, the frist five shots were with Daisy percision max flat nosed pellets and they all hit in a quarter size group at 50 feet. Also I will be ordering a GTR trigger just to make the gun a litte better. Maybe A tune job at a later date. If you looking for and hard hitting inexpensive 22cal pellet gun then this is your gun.

For 115 bucks you can't go wrong. Spending more then that is a waist for a pellet gun. Your better buying a .22 rifle for what the more expensive airguns cost. But very pleased with this gun!

    Things I would have changed:

So far I can't complain, But MADE IN AMERICA would be better then China!

    Things I liked:

I really was surprised by the exacting tolerances for such an inexpensive gun.The power is incredible and im surprised people bother with the .177 version. i got it yesterday and fired 500 h and n sport 13.73gr pellets today.the initial dieseling was scary and as loud as a .22 rimfire so do your first 10 shots in the basement or closed garage.after that,it settles down and isnt really loud. The weight and balance was surprisingy nice and the trigger was fairly crisp and predictable after several rounds. The break barrel mechanism is very tight and well engineered. The cocking effort is minimal for the power delivered,my arm is a little fatigued after a whole day of shooting, but not crippled.I was initially shooting wild until i got used to it,then i shot .75 inch 5 rd groups at 25 yards after some practice, and im sure those groups will shrink.overall, well built and powerful!!

    Things I would have changed:

Ditch the included scope.its useless and i knew it would be. ebay is a good way to get your money back on it.I bought a 6-24 by 50 illuminated scope and some leapers high rings. Also, because the barrel needs a slap to open the breach, there should be a rubberized slapping handle.I literally slapped that barrel 500 times today and im feeling it(moreso than the strain of cocking it).Aside from the slapping and the scope, the guns great.i never tested the open sights so i cant comment.

    What others should know:

Do not give this to a kid, especially an irresponsible one like i was.Its too powerful and they probably wont like cocking it anyway.Invest money in a good scope and rings,i went to 2 different sites to source these items, with no regrets!Skip the 3-9 and jump right to 16 power scopes. After 2 weeks your gonna want one anyway.i jumped to 24x because thats all i could fit and still be able to load the gun.Get a bipod, even a 20 dollar universal does the trick for table shooting and double check your clearance when cocking before you bolt it down.I now have a 230 dollar setup, and my friends think it was 500.With a trigger tune,it would surely compete with the best. thx pyramid,Rob M

    Things I liked:

This rifle is solidly built, and was in good working order. Accuracy is not bad, and even though it isn't meant to be a competition grade rifle, for an entry level, inexpensive model, it does it's job very well. Power is quite impressive, and is consistent from shot to shot. The trigger is the worst part of this rifle. The included scope is surprisingly well made, and easily adjusted. This is a good little rifle at a great price.

    Things I would have changed:

The trigger could be a lot better. I would give the scope as an option, instead of including it in a package.

    What others should know:

Once you receive the rifle, clean the barrel thoroughly before the first shot. There are many ways to accomplish it, but give it a real good cleaning first. I have seen where there are complaints of dieseling for the first 10 to 20 or so shots, but I did not have any dieseling problems at all. Next, expect to change out the trigger with an aftermarket one. It makes a big difference.
