If you’re reading reviews and you are new to knives, people who are into knives regard this as the best knife. It excels for camping, bushcraft (primitive camping skills like shelter building and fire-making). The military loves it because it’s good for fighting and utility. It’s good for SCUBA diving. This is the best all-around knife you can buy, and it’s very inexpensive compared to many lesser knives.

I got this for bushcrafting and it seems like a very solid knife so far. I've only used it for cutting some cord so far though.

I purchased mine as a second-hand SRK in the 90's while in the Navy and used it through the dreaded Y2K non-event as a primitive camping/hunting knife. It kept its edge, sharpened up easily, and was very useful in cutting down brush and saplings for wickiup construction, batoning and splitting thick branches, making stakes, cutting meat, making feathersticks, and the like. Just a great knife overall. I gifted it to a friend when my health took a turn and I know that it's still in regular use as his favorite hunting knife.

Like many gun guys, I also have a bit of an addiction to knives. I ordered this based solely on Cold Steel's catalog description. I can hardly adequately describe my surprise and full on happiness when my SRK knife arrived. The look. The weight. The balance. The overall feel to this knife had me wondering if they had made a mistake in the pricing. Had I said twice as much, I would still be happy beyond description. If you want a plain but oddly beautiful working knife, you will surely not be disappointed.
