Page 2 of 3 - Athlon Midas G2 UHD Reviews

Extremely clear glass and you can't beat the price point.

I bought these specifically for an upcoming late-season New Mexico elk hunt with my kids, and the Midas G2 UHD 10x42s blew away my expectations. The glass is ridiculously clear — edge-to-edge sharpness with no eye strain even after hours of glassing ridgelines. Colors pop in low light, which is critical for those dawn and dusk movements, and the UHD coating really does make a difference spotting elk against the desert backdrop. Build quality is rock solid but surprisingly lightweight, so carrying them in the field is no burden. The focus wheel is smooth and precise, and the 10x magnification hits the sweet spot for Western hunting — enough reach to pick out details without losing stability. These feel like premium binos at double the price, and Athlon’s no-questions-asked warranty gives huge peace of mind. If you’re serious about hunting and want the perfect mix of clarity, performance, and value, these are a no-brainer. My kids immediately noticed the difference in brightness compared to my older pair — that says everything.

Excellent optics, somewhat underwhelming build quality and cosmetic appearance. They seem better than my vortex Diane and back 10 x 40s in both field division and with much less purple fringing. On the other hand, the build quality seems a little bit lower than the Vortex HD diamondback line so far. The focusing ring is a little bit uneven in its fit to the body, and the single color dark gray exterior just doesn’t inspire confidence as do the Diamondbacks. Additionally, the strap in case aren’t what I had hoped for in build quality, or really, in protection. They don’t seem as up-to-the-task as others I own including Nikon, Leopold, and Vortex. I’ve only taken them out on a couple glassing trips preparatory to hunts, and they’ve been wonderful in pinpoint clarity. Not quite as impressive as the Vortexes on the outside, but definitely much better value for the money than Vortex when put up to the eyes.

This I the best glass money can buy at this price point. Very clear and worth every penny. You will be happy with them.

clarity is excellent, even after sunset they let plenty of light in to see very clear. nice weight and easy to adjust. I like the caps on both sides. everything worked great! Best binos I've owned.

My first pair of binoculars. Great clarity. The coating is grippy and the focus is easy to adjust. The only issue I’ve encountered is that the lens caps for the objective lenses tend to come off when I carry the binos around in a backpack. Minor complaint though. I also don’t find the pouch they come with to be very useful. A friend has vortex binos, and the harness that comes with those isn’t bad for being free. The binoculars themselves are great though. My main use has been trying to spot wildlife while out on hikes. For someone who doesn’t get a nice discount, I would probably recommend the vortex though. My untrained eyes haven’t noticed a difference with my very limited usage, and the price point is a bit less intimidating for someone as unversed in optic quality. Getting a half decent harness with the package also makes it more approachable for someone in the same position as me. Very happy with my purchase though.

Bought these and to my surprise I was disappointed as I love Athlon products. Glass was better than the old Nikon Monarchs that I had been using for years at work of course, but wow was the eye relief terrible on these. I just could not get a comfortable and repeatable spot behind the lens to see all that great. Frustrating to say the least. Move on from these quickly.

For the price these binos punch way above thier price range. I was very skeptical purchasing these optics in fear of poor glass quality since I was wanting to upgrade from an old pair I had lost. After much deliberation amongst alot of other higher cost binos I chose these ones and I am glad I did! Phenomenal piece of gear of a great price. Just hope I don't loss these ones.

For the money you will be hard pressed to find anything clearer!

I found these to be lighter and more compact than my Nikon Monarchs, with comparable lens quality. Less bulk is great when you're carrying them as part of a pack. The cups were fine, I had no problems with them. The case didn't feel like the highest quality. Probably enough to keep them save in a pack, but I wouldn't trust them to protect the binoculars from a fall.
