I made the mistake of switching from #5 to #6 3.5 12 gauge loads. I shoot the Carlsons matched choke for these loads. I had two Toms at 49 and 55 yards that I crippled this season. I use a red dot scope and a range finder always to increase my effective game. I feel terrible about it and I was thinking whats changed this season. I patterned, after cripple at 50, the #6 at 50 with 14 in kill and an additional 8 in the soft tissue on target. Both of these Toms were 3/4 to fully erect and still. I could tell they were hit and stunned on the shot. I did some research with the same basic outcome that the penetration and killing power of lead or enhanced lead #6 are not enough at 50 yards to kill consistency. I have killed over 55 Tom turkeys in 7 states over a 20 year period. I will go back to the XR #5 in 3.5 with 1200 FPS for the 2020 season and still only shoot within 50 yards. This still only gives roughly 1.54 inches of gelatin penetration at 50, but its a good compromise. The #4 would be much better except I worry about pattern density at 50. Switched from Rem Nitro in my 870 to XR. Shooting 3” #4 out of an 18 1/2” Carlson barrel with a Carlson xx full choke tube. WOW. Already this spring killed a bird at 50 yds and one at 60yds. Birds never even flopped! Would never have tried this with the rem ammo. Friends having same results. Impressive!

Two years in a row using these shells, both birds less then 30 yards, and never moved, after the shot.

Seen your new turkey loads on the out door channel . Killing long beards past 50 yrds . I had to try them . Because during my last to seasons they would fly down out of range . This year was different I new in my mind I had the nock down power at 50 yrds , and more shot going towards the target. I watched this long beard fly down with a subboardnt long beard three Jake's and a punch of hens . Man did he put on a show . Strutten and gobblen ,for about thirty min . But of course he hung up . I new he at the miniun of 50yrds . Good thing I had a decoy out that kept him intreated . But also my buddy's great calling kept him fired up . As the min went on it felt like hours .he fianly turned toward me gobbled and strutted and stuck his head up one last time . So I let one rip. 11 1/2" beard ,1 1/8 Spurs 20lbs..

Best shell on the market because of its performance, and the price is extremely reasonable. Killed a tom at 55 yrds. Best shell there is.

This is a horrable products it missed my turkeys head and hit the body!!!!

I used the 12 ga 3" #5 shell to drop a 22 lb Tom at 40 yards. From practice, I knew I had good pattern out to 50 yards, but to experience the knockdown power of these shells is what its all about. Its one and done. These shells are as good as they say they are.

I've used other ammo and use to load my own, this has amazing knock down power. 30-50yrds is the ticket for my Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus!

Got my wife a new 11-87 and was shopping for a turkey choke. My Remingtons in the past have always patterned nicely with Carlson’s chokes so that’s where I began my shopping. I saw that they made a choke specifically made for Winchester long beard xr ammo, although I thought it was just a marketing gimmick I purchased and gave the combo a whirl. I thought I had turkey guns in the past that shot great patterns but after shooting this combination I have to say it’s the best I’ve ever seen. I’m very impressed with it shooting about a 6”-7” pattern at 20 yards and at 40 yards still a very impressive peppering of that paper turkey. I’m very excited to see her shoot a turkey this spring with it and I have all the confidence that the turkeys head will be completely devastated.
