Remember to pick up a variety of recommended pellets, which are listed in the AMMO link. Don't forget to order a scope and some targets, cleaning gear and shooting glasses. They're listed in the ACCESSORIES link.

The HW50S breakbarrel rifle is powerful enough to hunt small game and accurate enough to compete in field target. Younger shooters will also enjoy this rifle because it's not as heavy as its bigger spring-gun brothers. Take this gun to the range, and the entire family will have a ball shooting it!

The HW50S comes in two versions, and both are available in .177 and .22. If you're planning to do some serious paper popping, then you'll want the rifle with the diopter match sight. You can always remove the rear sight and mount a scope for those times when you want to use the rifle for field target, hunting or pest elimination. The other version of the rifle comes with a micrometer adjustable rear sight that has four notches. All versions of the rifle have the famous Weihrauch Rekord match trigger and interchangeable inserts for the front globe sight. There's also a slightly raised cheekpiece on one side of the buttstock.

Things I liked:

The trigger is great, the rifle is very accurate and the barrel lockup is solid.

Things I would have changed:

With the strange barrel linkage the gun really would benefit from a longer barrel, it takes about the same effort to cock as my R10. My gun is also heavier than the spec. but this may vary with wood density from gun to gun.

What others should know:

I waited until I had 7-800 rounds through the gun before saying my gun could really use a tune. It does vibrate more than I am use to and I am comparing it to an HW80,FWB124,R10,HW30 and an HW55. However it is less hold sensitive than the first 3. It could still smooth out but I am thinking an oversized piston seal and spring guide would give it that satisfying thud firing cycle.

Things I liked:

can't say it any better than Steve from USA did above

Things I would have changed:

same

What others should know:

the diopter equipped model comes with field (notch) sights that mount in traditional location as well as the rear-mounting peep sight so can be switched back and forth as desired between field and target with two of the front inserts being different width posts to go with the notch sight

Things I liked:

Superb German quality. Finish on steel parts is smooth. Bluing is deep and dark. No burrs or file marks. Wood finish is even and smooth as glass. Evokes pride of ownership. Right from box, rifle grouped five shots within 1/4" from 25 yards with aperture sight. Exudes quality. Smooth, fast discharge. Precise construction. You can shoot this rifle for hours and not get tired of cocking it or carrying it. Fills niche between low-powered guns and heavy, magnum air rifles. No plastic parts.

Things I would have changed:

Nothing. Weihrauch has been making high quality air rifles for over a hundred years. They got it right.

What others should know:

In 1979, now defunct Air Rifle Headquarters sold an HW 50 D-X for $278.50. I paid $352.00 at Pyarmyd Air for my HW50S with the aperture sight. This is a fantastic deal! My HW50S with last for years and the price will become insignificant with each shot and I won't have that feeling of having settled for less. Nothing beats Weihrauch quality in this price range. My HW50S is my ninth HW rifle. I wish I could buy a new HW35L in .22 and .177.
