Winchester does it, again, with a thrifty spring-piston air rifle that delivers power without destroying your budget. The Winchester 1100SS has an all-weather stock that can take the rough handling often required for eliminating pests, backyard shooting and more. Whether you're a seasoned shooter or just getting into airgunning, the Winchester will do what you ask. It's also useful for teaching proper gun handling to youngsters.

Things I liked: For the price, it is tough to beat this combination. It is built very ruggedly and is extremely accurate. It does not seem overly fussy of what type of pellet is used. It has a lot of knock-down power, plenty for small game at close range.

Things I would have changed: The first thing I disliked was the trigger. It reminded me of the old time pop guns those of us who are old enough to remember and used to play with! After a couple thousands of rounds, it does wear into a fairly decent trigger. I filled the empty composite stock with foam in an effort to reduce the very loud noises from the spring vibrations, without much luck. Mine came with a 3-9 X32 scope which was fair at best.

What others should know: This rifle is a bit rough around the edges, it has some quirky sounds and a stout recoil. As I said, the trigger takes some time to break in, but you end up with a very accurate and hard- hitting rifle. This is a good rifle to keep handy for varmints which might need tending to in a hurry! It is also a rifle you won't be upset if it should be scratched or hit because it is working gun, not a collector's item.
