9 of 9 Walther CP99 Compact Recon Reviews
Trigger pull is light, short and smooth.Shoots very accurate and nice fill in hand.Mine came with lighted sight switched on and the battery was dead.Wasn't happy with that, had to buy new battery right off the bat to use it.
Things I Would Have ChangedMake the suppressor out of metal instead of plastic and round off the buttom of it.The flat end to tip makes it look odd.
What Others Should KnowBuy extra mags.
This gun is amazing, the feel, the blowback , the weight it feels like the real thing. The dot sight is a plus once you calibrate it, its right on the money. Its very fun to shoot and very accurate gun.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
What Others Should KnowBuy extra clips because one clip is not enough. You'll be shooting through a clip faster than you can reload so be sure to buy extra ammo clips.
I have a three gun set of CP99 compacts. I really like the look and feel of this Air pistol. My last purchase was the RECON model. The longer barrel ups the fps which is a plus for me. In all the areas I find this pistol to be a great buy. Realistic, heavy, and close to the real thing.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe plastic compensator could be made of light aluminum. I would pay extra for that feature.
What Others Should KnowGreat gun, Great fun. By the way,the safety is a bit hard to engage.
The build quality is exellent. It has very good heft, comfortable in hand and points well. This is my first air pistol with blow-back system and it is FANTASTIC. The first few blow-backs kick as strong as a .22LR pistol when the CO2 vial is fresh. I like the 18-round, metal magazine instead of the 8-shot revolver clips with magnets. The BB follower is easy to grab and lock away during the loading process. This BB gun is a true-semi-auto pistol unlike the pellet pistols that are actually "revolvers-in-disguise". The slide has to be racked in order to cock the internal hammer. Despite having the blow-back, the gun seems to have a very efficient valve system. I get 8-magazines worth of shots with blow-back. And only halfway through the 9th magazine that I have to start cocking the hammer manually. That is total of over 18 x 9 = 144 shots with blow back!!!
Things I Would Have ChangedThe compensator could be metal - it's just plastic covering up the longer barrel. The barrel should be longer to reach the tip of the compensator. That would probably improve the FPS and accuracy further… The safety is too stiff to disengage with one hand and it is on the wrong side of the gun for me. It should be ambidextrous and thumb operated. The trigger appears to be adapted from other UMAREX double-action pistols. It should have much shorter pull and clear release point since this guns is single action only. The CO2 piercing knob seems to have thread directions reversed. It should pierce the CO2 by tightening it clockwise looking at the bottom of the frame. I'd figure out a way of getting the Green Dot Sight to attach to the gun without the bulky accessory rail or make the rail smaller. The iron-sights need white dots or something to help shoot when the dot sight is not in use. I wish the strength of the blow-back would remain consistent instead of only the first few being very powerful. I would like the future versions to have dropout magazine system like that of H&K P30 or that of Sig Sauer SP2022 pistol. I didn’t like part of the CO2 compartment “hatch” becoming completely detached. It is flimsy and one could loose it. The bottom of the magazine should line up to the bottom of the gun frame. It is unsightly as it is now. If it is made longer, it may even hold a few more BBs…? There has to be a way to stop the BB from rolling out of the muzzle while the
What Others Should KnowPyramid website states 345 FPS for this gun, but the on-line manual states 400FPS. I believe due to the longer barrel it could be higher than 400. (I'll have to test that and accuracy soon against a regular CP99 Compact, soon.)
This particular gun at about 10 yards shoots a few inches to the left and high using the iron sights. But once the dot sight was calibrated, the accuracy was amazing.
I’ve had several feeding troubles with Copperhead BBs. It now feeds flawlessly once I switched to Daisy’s and RWS brands.
Finally, I fixed the very stiff safety lever by inserting a small piece of paper clip in the inner portion of the knob, so I can operate it easily by using the thumb of my shooting hand.
It’s too bad that BB guns of this quality and features did not exist when I was a kid. This version of CP99 Compact would be a welcome addition to anyone’s collection. “Hey, it’s not a target pistol. You can “spray” a lot of BBs down range and have a lot of fun!” ;-D
This gun feels like a real handgun-not a piece of plastic. It's very quiet and shouldn't bother the neighbors. The trigger pull, while it is a long one, is nice and light. The open sights are very nice-no colors-just nice black sights.Large BB capacity.I like that it comes with the green dot electric sight. This sight is easy to adjust point of impact. I was pleased with the accuracy-for a CO2 BB repeater-and not as a ten meter competition bullseye gun.At 23 feet from a rest I got one group with 4 shots into 1/4" but the 5th shot opened the group to about an inch.Other groups are about an inch. The compensator allows this gun to have a longer barell length over the standard CP99 Compact, which has the potential of better accuracy and velocity.
Things I Would Have ChangedI would like the open sights to be adjustable. My gun shoots about 3 inches left and two inches high with the open sights.
What Others Should KnowI had a little problem (my fault) when I loaded the first CO2 cartridge.I think it was my fault. I lost about half the CO2, so couldn't get a feeling for how many shots per cartridge. The green dot sight is hard to see at the lower setting in sunlight, and when you use the higher setting, it makes the dot larger. It is easy to adjust for windage/elevation.You can totally use the open sights with the accesory rail and the green dot sight mounted, which is very nice. Some other "Recon" or "tactical" models obscure the open sights with these accesories mounted.
i like the realism. its a great shooter. the comp was a little loose when i received mine but a phillips screw driver fixed that . its a good combat practice weapon. accuracy is better that most bb guns but it is a bb gun. i'm old school so i prefer open sights.
Things I Would Have Changedthe safety is difficult to operate. this should be redesigned. people will be tempted not to use it and that is NOT safe.
What Others Should KnowBUY EXTRA MAGS. i counted the number of shots on my last co2 cartridge, i'm at 70 and its still going.
Easy to operate, fun to use, never jams.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe safety is a little hard to engage. The rail is very loose, so is the compensator.
What Others Should KnowThis is a good gun for beginners but it is not very accurate
Great feel and balance is true. Very well made and has a good heft. The sight is great and very easy to set up for very accurate shots. The 'Green' sight dot has two brightness levels making it easy on the eyes in full sunlight or dark. I shoot wasp, spiders, and horseflies with it easily. I still have some problems hitting flying Carpenter Bees when they dive at me, but a little more practice will resolve that problem. Plus, the gun is quiet and the cartridge is easy to change and the BB's are easy to load.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe gun should come with an extra clip.
What Others Should KnowBuy a full box of CO2 cartridges and several thousand BB's, because this is a very fun gun to shoot.

High quality, ease of loading, good instruction/owners manual, good velocity, fun to shoot rapidly with no jams, green dot sight is ok but you can still use the iron sights under the mount which is kind of nice
Things I Would Have ChangedWeird small and hard to turn CO2 cartridge piercing wheel, safety is somewhat tricky to activate up and down, sort of eats CO2 but never having a gun like this I'm not sure if that's typical
What Others Should KnowBe sure to order extra clips and some bore oil as the owners manual suggests
