Things I liked:

This is an exceptional air rifle for the money. Lightweight synthetic. The spacers are a total breeze to insert with the existing provided Phillips screws. Took me all of 3 minutes to unscrew, insert spacers, and rescrew. The LOP was too short for a full grown man. This gun sighted in perfectly within 5 shots. I mounted and sighted in the scope in another 5 shots. It's not great but what do you expect for a free scope and rings that mount well. The provided bipod is flimsy yet certainly does a decent job for prone sight in. This gun is powerful. Within 30 shots from 15-20 yards, it destroyed my steel bone collector pellet trap, bending and bulging the steel. The design is excellent. This is one attractive rifle. The muzzle break/integral silencer is badass. It looks like a real can, much beefier than I was anticipating and love the look. I cannot comment on ultimate quietness as I want to put another couple hundred pellets down range to let it break in, but its definitely a quiet gun compared to my webley stingray springer. The vortex gas ram is smooth and delivers with a thunk and no twang. The open sights are excellent fiber optic adjustables. Cocking effort is easy and you cannot beat being able to leave it cocked indefinitely while waiting for that right moment to take that varmint down. I have many air guns and for the money, this is quickly becoming a favorite. I chose the 85 on purpose to stay below the sonic crack which negates any noise dampening features.

Things I would have changed:

Nothing. If you complain about the quality of free accessories, when the quality of the gun is on par with much higher priced airguns, then you're just looking to complain. Sure the sling is cheaper, the bipod is flimsy, and the scope is entry level, but they all perform their intended purpose. It's the rifle that shines and the extras are simply gravy on top. The trigger adjustment is ok, but its not an objectionable trigger. Breaks consistently and is not overly tough. Again, there is nothing I would change on this gun, and aside from upgrading the scope and or trigger group to high end items, you have a kick ass air rifle right from the box.

What others should know:

The vortex gas piston is a winner. As good if not better than the cross an nitro version I have in another. Hatsan is churning out a solid well built rifle and the ergonomics are well placed. It's an extremely comfortable rifle to shoot. Balances extremely well for an air rifle that has such a huge "silencer" on the end...again, it's a badass muzzle break. The grooves in the stock are comfortable too...a nice change from run of the mill checkering. Feels good to hold and provides nice traction. The recoil is mild due to the internal system as well as the cushy butt stock piece. All in all this gun is a winner front to back. Tactical and sleek and just a real "looker". Super light and delivers a huge punch...destroying a brand new gamo steel pellet trap in under 50 rounds from 20 yards away. That said the 125 sniper must truly bring it but at super sonic speed and will yield a loud crack...this 85 delivers a nice 950-1000 fps "thunk" sound. Heavy pellets are even more accurate and quiet as velocity drops a bit. I have more testing on various pellets to do. If you are on the fence at all about quality, sound, looks, functionality and ergos and bang for your buck...do NOT hesitate to try this winner out. I'm actually considering getting the same exact gun in .22 just to take larger game, but I think this rifle will have no problem with varmints as large as coons and woodchucks. Small game like munks, birds and squirrels do not stand a chance. GET THIS GUN.

Things I liked:

It is substantial. Initial pellet release is quieter than my Striker 1000s. Had Pyramydair put a better scope on it, which is really nice. I like the larger caliber. Trigger adjusted nicely.

Things I would have changed:

It says it's a Vortex rifle. But the slam-SPROING! at the end sounds like some kind of spring. So obnoxious that I seldom shoot it. It just sits in the case. I'd rather shoot the Striker, which is a springer, but doesn't make the SPROING!

What others should know:

I probably should have sent it in to the factory right after I got it ... along with the bill of sale and they would have fixed it for free. Too late now (1 year limit). My bad

    Things I liked:

Well made not as heavy as the 125 sniper. Good power able to reach out to 35, 40 yards no problem. Also not as loud as the 125. Then again I love all my Hatsan rifles. Edge in. 25, 125 spring version, and my latest purchase Bullboss in. 25.

    Things I would have changed:

Hatsan guns in general are heavier than, your Gamo's, Crosman's, Benjamin's, and other comparable class airguns. Other than the weight I only have good things to say about the 85 sniper.

    What others should know:

For the price it's hard to beat, the 85 sniper is so much fun to shoot. Definitely would recommend this rifle, also would recommend purchasing from pyramidair.

Everything.. Great gun. 500 rounds done and as good now as it was on the first few shots..

    Things I would have changed:

This gun needs to loose the 11mm dovetail and have a regular weaver/picattiny dovetails..!! The better scopes mount to the larger dovetails.

    What others should know:

I mounted a UTG 3-9X40 Hunting scope to my Hatsan 85 and there is a very important note that all 85 users should know. If you plan to mount a better scope that that has larger weaver/picatinny dovetails, you will need to seek out a suitable Dovetail to picatinny rail adapter. But please know this... I've found that many adapters that fit into the bottom of scope mounts have "flat" bottoms and because of the rounded barrel and depth of the dovetails on the 85, the adapter will rest on the top of the barrel and not reach the dovetail groves..!!! In my case I had to file out the bottom of the adapters and create a rounded depression on both so the mount would fit the curvature of the barrel.. Once that was done the scope mounted cleanly to the 85's groves.

General appareance, stock, weigth, trigger, silencer.

    Things I would have changed:

Power is not the advertised by the manufacturer or by professionals reviews. I measured 3 different pellets .22 caliber at sea level, sunny day no wind, 10 shots each. Results was: Crosman Premier HP 14.3 gr. 705 FPS. Crosman Destroyer 14.3 gr. 710 FPS. H&N Spitzkugel 16.05 gr. 653 FPS. This number are similar to the measured in another review by William. No 800 or 765 FPS. My gun was from Hatsan USA but not from Pyramydair.

    What others should know:

The feel of the rifle is solid and much better than my previous Gamo Big Cat also in .22 caliber. I change the scope for the Hammer 3-9X40AO with Leapers Accushot 1 pc. mount high profile, and can hit pidgeons at 55 yards very easy. I could not talk about the Optima scope because I never use it, but the included rings do not has pin stop and has only 2 screw each.

    What others should know:

very accurate!!! very powerful!!! very impressed!!! very hard to cock!!! using a removable 20 inch extender for easier cocking, originally made for 125 sniper[fits both 85 and 125] I don't like china air guns, I like german air guns, this hatsan is made in turkey with some german parts and it shows, turkey has along history of buying german rifles and then reproducing them [E.g. mauser] that said the quality is not as good as beeman or weihrauch but for the price its a very good deal, got the 85 in .22 and the 125 in .25, like both of them.

the trigger is very smooth and needed no adjustments right out of the box. the Vortex ram does an excellent job of pushing the Crosman 14.3 pellet out to 50yards with no problem. the Truglo open sights are very easy to use.

    Things I would have changed:

would have liked to seen a picatinny rail instead of the dovetail

    What others should know:

the plastic used seems thin and cheap. the buttend has a hollow sound in it. when adding the included spacers you need to buy longer screws as the ones that are in it are to short. it loves the Crosman Premier pellets (14.3).this is not a little kids toy. does take some effort to cock it but I already knew this when I bought it. I set up a 1" phone book 40yards out and the pellet blows right through it. would have gave 5 stars on all but the plastic brings it down to 4 stars.

    Things I liked:

Powerful! Well-constructed, good trigger, fiber optic sites are great, sling mounts are a nice feature not found on many air rifles, NOT made in China and fairly quiet

    Things I would have changed:

Offer with a weaver optics rail similar to what is available on the Hatsan Mod. 125, I also like the safety better on the Hatsan Mod. 95. Maybe leave off the scope and bipod and reduce the price a bit--they are not on the same level as the rifle. But overall very little I would realistically want to change. Its a great rifle for the money

    What others should know:

Hatsan may not have the popularity that Gamo or Crosman have in the U.S. but they make some great rifles. The Sniper 85 vortex is my 2nd Hatsan rifle and I am looking to buy another sometime in the future - the Hatsan model 125 Sniper Vortex. If you're looking for a good quality air rifle take a look at what Hatsan has to offer. I have also owned a Bengamin NP XL and its a great rifle too. However, I consider the 85 Sniper Vortex to be very comparable to the NP XL for a better price point. I like how Hatsan states the potential velocity of their rifles using lead pellets instead of alloy because that's what most people actually use. I have probably put 1,200-1,400 rounds through it but I have not mounted a scope to it yet. I've been very content with shooting with fiber optic sites. I mostly use Crosman Premier Domed, 14.3gr pellets and the results have been good. Its gets 5 stars all around

    Things I liked:

Everything! This is my third .25 cal rifle and am impressed all around. Right out of the box, with stock sights, the accuracy is unreal at 30-35 yards. Mounted and zeroed the scope in under ten shots. For a model that claims to max at 650 fps, in this caliber, it still packs a punch. Very suitable for small game hunting. The trigger is an absolute dream! With only minor adjustments, it it set exactly how I prefer. The break action on the barrel is smooth and surprisingly (to me) was not very hard at all to fully cock. The fact that it is not a spring and performs better than one just tops it off. Overall the rifle has a good feel to it, is highly addictive to shoot, and would definitely purchase again.

    Things I would have changed:

I have read and heard the complaints about the scope, mounts, sling, and bi-pod. I'm not too concerned about any of that, more so the rifle itself. However, the scope (albeit not top of the line) works just fine and have had no problems after a tin and a half of pellets. No broken rings or damage to the scope. The bi-pod and sling, again is not top of the line, but do exactly what they should. For the rifle, I would not make any changes.

    What others should know:

If you are on Pyramid Air's website and wondering if they are a reputable business or are hesitant to order from them, don't worry! My first purchase with Pyramid Air dates back probably close to ten years now. I was having trouble deciding on a particular model to buy and ended up speaking to the owner himself. Joshua spent a considerable amount of time on the phone helping with my purchase. You will not find the great level of customer service you do at Pyramid anywhere else. Always friendly, always helpful, and always willing to go the extra mile. Throw in fair pricing, super speed order processing and shipping.. What is there to question? Repeat, loyal, extremely happy customer here. Keep up the great work and thank you!

    Things I liked:

This Gun is Awesome. In my opinion if you ahve a budget of 200 hundred max you should open it up just a little more but that just me. The quattro trigger is the best out of the box compared to the to6...or others..way better than the standard crosman. The velocity is also nice. My gun is in .177 cal. Im using JSB Exact Monsters .177 grns and there shooting tthem with 17fpe. Thats hard for a .177 gun. I also shoot open sights as I have not decided what scope to mount on this gun. But the groups are also great. @ 20 yards my groups are 1/4-1/2" which is good enough for me.

    Things I would have changed:

Id take the bipod off..maybe it wont be a sniper anymore. but seriously i would and add the cost difference to make the 3-9x32 scope AO.

    What others should know:

Dont use light pellets. I mean begin to start testing something that weighs at least 9 grns. I started at 10 and tried to find the best.

    Things I liked:

It's light, has excellent power for pest control, is very quiet with good accuracy, and does exactly what it says it will do as long as I do my part. I also like the trigger. My 85 vortex has next to no creep and has a crisp trigger break.

    Things I would have changed:

For the money, I wouldn't change a thing.

    What others should know:

As far as I know, the 85 makes no pretense at being a long range shooter -- and (so far) I've kept my distances between 20 and 35 yards. At these distances it produces plenty of power to take out some substantial pests, to include raccoons, and its accuracy for pest control, in my opinion, has been exceptional. Except for a quick sighting-in session with a scope, I haven't done any bench-rest shooting as of yet -- though I believe this is quite an accurate rifle for any purpose within reasonable distances for its power. I can't take all the credit though. The combination of a UTG Bugbuster scope on an Accushot offset ring mount (my idea) places the scope at the perfect eye relief level for me and gives quick target acquisition without adding a lot of weight to the rifle. And it's quiet. My sound meter measures shots at mostly under 68 dB - though, I do shoot in a heavily wooded area and the large trees may be absorbing some of the sound. Do I like this rifle? Definitely. And given my experience to date with this particular one would I recommend it to others? Absolutely. Why? Because it does the job I bought it to do. I should add that I rarely write reviews and have no affiliation whatsoever with Hatsan or Pyramid Air in any way. I'm just an average guy who likes air guns and am more than satisfied with the 85 Vortx. Maybe I just got a good one. But, I'll definitely be keeping an eye on other Hatsan products in the future.

Solid construction...makes Gamo Silent Stalker seem like a toy. Trigger good for this price point. POWERFUL.

    Things I would have changed:

Avoid frustration and wasted pellets...forget the included scope and rings, IMO JUNK! Still trying to tame the fierce recoil (I thought gas pistons were smoother than springers.)I took scope and mount from RWS 350 Mag and mounted it and it wouldn't hold alignment.

    What others should know:

Still looking for mount/scope combo that will work with this as I believe the potential accuracy is there and open sights are too course for humane shots on game past 30 yards. Will file further comments when I get other mounting.

    Things I liked:

The rifle is especially accurate. With JSB Diabolo Exact Kings, I get average 5-shot groups of .75" at about 40 yards, and groups of .5" at about 25 yards. I have used the rifle to kill 2 doves, with first shot kills. The adjustable trigger is fairly easy to adjust and breaks reliably, lending to accuracy. The open sights are fairly easy to adjust as well.

    Things I would have changed:

The scope mounts that came with the rifle are junk. They should not even be used. When tightened down, the scope visibly sits off to the left of the rifle's centerline when viewed from above. Point of impact and ability to adjust the scope suffered as a result.

    What others should know:

I would definitely buy another one of these in a different caliber, if I purchased another air rifle. It's a bit heavy, but the sling mounts and included sling hold the weight fairly well.

Did a lot of research before purchasing with so many options to choose from at pyramyd air. I decided I wanted to start enjoying some of the activities I had growing up after coming across my old crossman 760 after many many years since last use. After too much research and bothering the incredible staff at pyramyd air for their recommendation, I went with the vortex 85 sniper .22 caliber. I did the 10 for 10 and was truly like a kid at Christmas time digging into the 5 diff pellets and air rifle. I grew up near the woods and shot all the time growing up. Do yourself a favor and get back into shooting. Maybe not all the critters you shot at before. I set up a little indoor/garage range and outdoor. It's great to distress with shooting a half inch group with just about all ammo. Makes you feel like a kid again. Staff at pyramyd will have you making purchases with them over and over. They helped me with multiple issues and were great about everything.

    Things I would have changed:

My expectations. I wasn't buying another crossman 760 and new it. This does have a little kick, nothing bad at all and makes you feel like you are shooting an airgun that really can do some damage. So realize that it may not be the first airgun your young kids may want to shoot even though you may feel like a kid again

    What others should know:

Treat yourself to a quality airgun like this and you won't be sorry. Yea you will have to tighten some screws again from time to time or use locktight like others have mentioned. My airgun shot tight groups with and without scope pretty much from the start. I definitely liked the rws superdome and h&n hunter extreme for lightest groups and h&n hunter extreme for blowing through back of 3/4 inch boards. I saw someone asking ammo preferences but really everything has shot fairly well as this is breaking in more. I would give this 5 stars on all but I keep getting kicked out when I try and put my star ratings in. I hope the staff corrects this.

    Things I liked:

This gun has excellent power. Blows through both sides of a steel coffee can like it's not even there. Power is about comparable with a .22 CB rimfire round.

    Things I would have changed:

I put over 500 rounds through this gun at my 30-yard range with the included Optima scope mounted. Accuracy was unacceptably poor and did not compare with my Daisy Powerline 953. In frustration, I removed the Optima scope and began shooting with iron sights. Accuracy then became acceptably decent. This leads me to conclude that the included Optima scope was to blame for the accuracy issues I experienced. I intend to try a 50 millimeter AO scope and see what it can do at longer ranges. This gun tends to buck scopes off (both rings and bases come unscrewed from the force of recoil), so make sure those screws are tight, and periodically check to ensure that there's no wobble when you touch the scope.

    What others should know:

Not as quiet as a shrouded CO2 or PCP, but once the gun settles down and stops dieseling from factory oils, it's acceptably quiet for backyard plinking. Much of the sound is what I call mechanical noise, which you'll notice in your right ear (if you're a right-handed shooter). The muzzle accessory contains several baffles, which definitely diminish report. With the .22 cal version, the pellet impacts and ricochets will be much louder than the shots and may give away the fact that someone is shooting. Our neighbor asked me the other day if I heard someone shooting, so I told her I had been shooting a pellet gun. She said it sounded like it was coming from somewhere off in the distance. I think she was hearing the pellet impacts and ricochets. So don't expect this gun to be silent - it isn't. But the muzzle accessory does diminish the sound of the actual shot and may mask your exact location. There isn't much to be done about the sounds of pellet impacts and ricochets, except perhaps to engage more distant targets.

    Things I liked:

Weight, 2lbs lighter than 125 sniper. Overall construction of the RIFLE itself is very good. Nice adjustments of the trigger without diss-assembly. Nice tru glow iron sights, which is good because you are going to need them, see further in description. If I were to do it over again, I'd probably get the Sniper 125 instead of the Sniper 85, even with the weight penalty.

    Things I would have changed:

    1) Good luck installing the supplied spacers for the length of pull (LOP) on the butt stock with the supplied hardware. Save yourself the hassle and just go buy 2" long #10 or #12 countersunk Philips sheet-metal screws, and be aware that the top screw is a booger to get out without a bench mounted vise. It comes with 1.5" screw that will only thread in without spacers. 2) supplied scope is mediocre at best and the mounts are pure rubbish. Took over 76 clicks of left movement (yes, 76 clicks) to center crosshairs. I'm pretty sure the erector mechanism is close to bottoming out as clicks are starting to encounter resistance. Further investigation found the mounts off from each other a good 1/16" when I gave up and took scope off and went to iron sights. IF you intend to scope this rifle, budget for a good scope with an adjustable objective (my main gripe with the supplied 3x9 scope besides the fuzziness, but what do you expect at this price point?) and decent mounts and save yourself the headache. Better yet pay the $20 for 20 shots and let PA mount and sight it in for you, money well spent IMO.

    What others should know:

Needs and adjustable comb for stock if using scope, will not buy another airgun I intend to scope without one. The sling is ok, certainly not a Vickers sling by any means, but you can use it as a decent pad for your off hand when shooting. It does make a fair bit of noise at the sling mounts Overall, I am pleased with the RIFLE. accuracy has been repeatable and It has less "double recoil bounce" than a spring rifle and is excelling at the close in 3-18 yard ground squirrel pest control I bought it for. Muzzle Noise is acceptable, comparable to a very loud clap. Not as quiet as my shrouded PCP, but a lot less involved effort as well
