Things I liked:

The 499 is the world's most accurate BB gun, and has been so since it was introduced in 1976. There is no better training airgun for young children than this one.

Things I would have changed:

I wish the peep sight had more precision in the adjustments. Even the replacement sight lacks precision.

What others should know:

This is a muzzle-loading single-shot. It is not a conventional BB gun - it is for target shooting. Everyone in the vicinity must wear safety glasses because steel BBs rebound like crazy. Be sure to also buy Avanti Precision Ground Shot to use in the gun.

Things I liked:

It's a lot of fun on my little 3 meter living room range. Using the Daisy precision ground shot it will put them in one hole until I screw up.

Things I would have changed:

Not much. A better trigger but I know that would add to the price.

    Things I liked:

Update after shooting a couple weeks and adding a Sightmark Mini-Shot - it is a great shooting gun for my basement 6 meter range - Love it with the Red Dot sight.

    Things I would have changed:

I had to countersink the top rear stock screw hole and use a flat top screw to make the whole sight rail accomodate the red dot. change the SPECs page to Scopeable YES and bundle it withe the small Hawke Red Dot for dovetail rails.

    What others should know:

buy either the Hawke Vantage red dot for 11mm rails or the sightmark mini shot w an 11mm rail adaptor plate to go with this gun. use precision daisy match BBs.

    Things I liked:

This Gun Does what it is supposed to do. in a small basement range, 15-20ft, it shoots dime sized (or less) groups with Daisy precision BBs. The small 11mm rail for the peep sight accepts a small 11mm to picatinny rail adaptor and allows me to mount a red dot optic to accomodate my aging eyesight. I have a Sig Romeo 5 w 11mm rail adaptor, on it currently and it is working quite well. A Bushnell TRS-25 could be a good choice or the sightmark Mini-Shot Aspec or Hawke Vantage. It is large enough to fit an Adult male, as well as youngsters. it is easy to use, charge and shoot.

    Things I would have changed:

There is not much to want to change as this gun is what it is. I will plan to look for a pad to increase the length of pull. There are a few YouTube videos on maintaining these rifles for match level shooting that mention that care must be taken not to damage the Shot tube and abutment plate. And, dont get oil into the shot tube (barrel). it would be nice to have a decent picatinny rail on this rifle for optics, but the rail it has, with an adaptor, supports small red dots as well as the included peep sight.

    What others should know:

One must hold the rifle vertically when dropping a single BB down the bore and hold it close to your ear anf listen for the quiet click the BB makes as it attaches to the magnet at the abuttment plate before you shoulder the rifle to shoot, or the BB may roll out or the shot will not be true. Use precision Daisy BB or Umarex precision BBs only. dont use old, dirty, re-used or cheaper BBs. There are a few YouTube videos on maintaining these rifles for match level shooting that mention how to maintain and optimize these guns, be sure to google Daisy 499b accuracy tips and view the videos there. all in all this is a good rifle for what it is and does. if you have aging eyes add a good red dot sight using an 11mm adaptor. use precision BBs

    Things I liked:

I can hit a dime consistently from 50ft away. Super repeatable. Would be a great trainer for kids, low cocking effort, simple controls, light, and is more accurate than any bb gun i've ever shot. Keep in mind its only 240fps. This is the perfect backyard pop can killer. I had that similar looking "red ryder' bb gun, but this one is like 5-10x more finely made,

    Things I would have changed:

I hadn't realized it was a muzzel loader; which is fine, this is solely a plinking/target rifle; but it would be neat if Air Venturi make a version with a barrel tube mag. But thats a minor complaint. The price was kinda steep considering the red ryder is like 50 bucks; but accuracy costs money, and that diopter sight isn't cheap

    What others should know:

Might wanna buttstock pad if'n you're an adult; otherwise the pull is short, and you're a little too close to the diopter; BUT its still totally useable and accurate.

    Things I liked:

It is one ragged hole accurate at 5yd, Great training arm, great joy to practice with. Sights are perfectly adequate.

    Things I would have changed:

    1. I attached a small magnet to the front in order to keep BBs handy. A method to store 10-20 rounds with easy access would be great. 2. For the price, a metal/ more refined trigger (just a bit better) would value out.

    What others should know:

Enjoy, its everything I hoped it would be accuracy wise, the sights are good to go for that platform, positive clicks, a little lacking in fit and refinement for the price but..

Reminds me of my first gun which was around 1960 though mine was the standard model.

    Things I would have changed:

Wish I had those eyes still.

    What others should know:

Every air gunner and all shooters in general should have one of theses. At 15 feet hole in holes are common......

Wood stock is nice. Sights are good at this price point.

    Things I would have changed:

Something in the barrel to stop the bb from rolling out of the barrel if the gun is less than level. This rolling out makes it very difficult to concentrate on shooting when I am trying to keep the bb in the barrel. I would not have purchased this rifle if I had known of this defect in design.

    Things I liked:

This is a perfect rifle for youth to begin competition training. I use it in the BSA program with the Webelos and older youth as it allows more accurate shooting and allows a better shooting experience. This is a very goon entry rifle for air rifle competitors.

    What others should know:

Nothing other than emphasizing to read the owner's manual fully. To many adults think the understand BB guns but they actually lack the knowledge of safely operating the Champion 499.

A very accurate .BB gun. It has a removable barrel for easy cleaning. A great peep sight which is easy to set. I read the reviews on this gun and had to try one. I have not been disappointed, and I have been air gunning for over 60 years.

    Things I would have changed:

Front sight should be screw on type not spring loaded. It is hard to change the inserts.

    What others should know:

A real fun gun to shoot paper targets or pop cycle sticks from 30 feet. Velocity 265 FPS on my chronograph.

It's the most accurate BB gun out of the box I've had the pleasure of shooting. I had friend buy 2 and he turned me on to it

    Things I would have changed:

    Nothing

    What others should know:

It's a single shot BB gun. You have to put the sight on. It comes in the box with the gun. Some assembly required. Comes with an assortment of front sights.

    Things I liked:

Easy cocking, target style sights, with interchangeable inserts for the front sight..

    Things I would have changed:

Fit and finish could be better. Front sight seems a bit cheesy but adequate. Rear sight is adequate but not very precise. One of the worst triggers on any of Daisy's other "Match Grade" rifles. Quality control could be better.

    What others should know:

I gave the 499B a 3 star overall rating of good as it is very accurate for a BB gun. I gave it one star as for the money the fit and finish is about on a par with the Standard Red Ryder which can often be purchased at some retailers for 1/6 the price and shipped for free. It has one of the worst triggers on any of Daisy's other "Match Grade" rifles and in my opinion worse than my current production Red Ryder. My example had to be returned as it shot 1/2 inch low with the sight maxed out. If you need to return it, be sure to get Daisy to provide the proper shipping label and have the RMS number clearly marked on the package.

    Things I liked:

Great rifle for its intended purpose. Have several hundred rounds through it. Very accurate at 36 ft that I shoot. Still waiting on back ordered Avanti bb s that should be even more accurate. Out of the box the trigger was a little over 4 lbs. Not bad at all but I prefer a lighter trigger. A little grinding and polishing and got it down to just over 2 lbs.

    Things I would have changed:

The lever is very small. I had to put my hand over it to shoot comfortably. Ordered two replacements from Daisy for $3 each plus shipping. Modified them to make a larger loop. Much more comfortable to shoot now. The first attempt wasnt quite big enough. Got it right on second attempt.

    What others should know:

The peep sight adjustments take a lot of clicks to move the line of sight. Much more adjusting needed compared to other sights.

Accurate little shooter. Even out to 10 meters. You will need at least 6 inches of holdover though. Can not wait to get my hands on the Precision BBs and see how they do.

    Things I would have changed:

Make the lever a little bigger. The current one is not a dealbreaker though. I had to grab the whole lever to shoot comfortably.

    What others should know:

It is a fun gun for us big kids too!

    Things I liked:

tack driver once I fixed mine

    Things I would have changed:

guns should be checked a little better. Mine had a torn piston head caused by the BB magnet pin falling into air chamber and beating things up. I called daisy and they sent me a new abutment and piston head. While apart I polished everything up to work smoother during shot cycle and now it shoots one hole groups at 258 fps on targets at 15yds using the Daisy ground shot

    What others should know:

don't get your hopes up too high as these are sheet folded stamped BB guns and need alot of work to get the best out of them. Do not follow the people in fourms and put a Red Ryder spring in these to get the magic 400fps! as the trigger pack has a very weak plastic sear pawl and will fail and misfire even when safety is on.

This is a wonderful little bb gun. Very accurate at 5 meters. I bought one for my daughter to shoot in her home and liked it so much I bought myself one. I own 3 high end air rifles but this is the one I shoot the most.

    Things I would have changed:

Better quality rear sight I have to put pressure on the sight block when turning knobs to insure proper movement.

    What others should know:

Use discretion if using for yard varmints. Gun is under powered. Targets only IMO.

Well made and solid. Feels like the Daisy guns I grew up with. The sight is well made and does the job. It is pricey but what quality item isn't these days. I bought it for close in shooting in the backyard.

    Things I would have changed:

The bb tends to roll out of the muzzle if you do not hold the gun level or with the muzzle tilted up. This makes for a problem if your shooting from a higher position to a lower one. You cannot do that. Your shooting position must be level with the target area or lower.

The stock has a 13 1/2 " pull and fits my 83 year old body. The cocking is vary light and the trigger is easy to get used to with its long 1 st. stage and light 2 nd. stage pull. With the scope I mounted it stacks BBs on top of each other at 20 ft.

    Things I would have changed:

Maybe make mounting a scope an option.

    What others should know:

Expect to have a lot of fun if you buy this gun. I mounted a 4x15 scope on mine.

    Things I liked:

I like the stock, it's simple and well made, nice thick wood. The accuracy is just as advertised. At first the peep sight seemed to be difficult to use, but I looked on the internet and found out how to use a peep sight correctly and now I can see the front sight AND the target so clearly, I can hardly believe it! I bought this for a Christmas present to myself. Sorta of a "you'll shoot your eye out" kind of sentiment. So easy to cock, easy to load, and just the right weight. I think it looks great as well.

    Things I would have changed:

Not anything needs changing as it is perfect for the 5 meter range it is designed for. I would like it if the sight could be made so that I could sight it in for 25' or 30'. I like the challenge of a longer distance. The currend sight does not allow enough travel to sight in at much more than 16'.

    What others should know:

I love to listen to the precision BB's roll down the barrel and click onto the magnet. With the really good precision BB's it can take almost 4 seconds for the BB to roll down the 12" barrel, incredible! Overall this is a super fun gun. I have the classic model 25 pump, and have shot it for years. The 499B is a different experience, and well worth it!
