You don't have to shoot at the world-class level to own a world-class airgun! Easy to cock, this ergonomic rifle is extremely accurate. You'll never be able to out-shoot its potential...even if you're an Olympic contender! Because this rifle is powered by high-pressure air, the cocking lever requires an easy 2 lbs. of effort. To help you get more practice time, the dry-fire capability lets you safely and repeatedly fire the gun.

Engineered by the famous Feinwerkbau factory in Germany, the FWB 700 Alu is suitable for all shooters due to its infinite adjustability. The butt can be adjusted in virtually every direction to accommodate any shooter's needs. The rifle has a raised cheekpiece that's highly adjustable either up or down (30mm range) and canted top to bottom or vice versa (up to 20 degrees). As if that isn't enough, the cheekpiece can be canted left to right by 15 degrees. The entire unit can be moved 5mm left or right.

The 16.73" barrel is covered by a 23" shroud. It comes equipped with a fully adjustable rear sight and globe front sight that accepts inserts. These are so fine and such high quality that they cost more than most air rifles!

The 5-way adjustable trigger is one of the finest in the world. The dual-range trigger-pull weight adjusts from 30 to 90 grams and from 60 to 150 grams. You can adjust virtually every part of the trigger, including pull-off point, initial travel, finger length, lateral position and trigger slack weight. Best of all, adjustments can be made quickly and easily without any tools and can even be made in the middle of a match!

All this would mean nothing without accuracy, and the FWB 700 Alu has proven itself. With accuracy of 0.04" (center-to-center), you'll leave the competition standing in your wake.

An Olympic rifle needs the best pellets available, which we've rounded up in the AMMO link. Appropriate targets, cleaning gear and safety equipment are listed in the ACCESSORIES link.

Things I liked:

Accuracy - This riffle is accurate. If youre not scoring 10s consistently, done by hitting the 10 ring from 10 meters away, its not the rifle. The 10 ring is actually an exaggeration. Its really a dot the size of a pins head that can’t be seen from the firing line. Ergonomics – My first FWB rifle was the 700 evolution and I traded that in mainly because of it wasn’t as adjustable as this one is. This one can be adjusted in so many ways and customized to the shooter’s stance and individual variances in position. Weight – This rifle is much heavier than the Evolution and I feel that this works in its favor. I find it makes it much more stable.

Things I would have changed:

Case The rifle is well packaged but doesnt include a case. Sights – The aperture on the rear sight isn’t adjustable. I’ve replaced it with an aftermarket piece and I’ve added a cant indicator in the foresight. Butt plate – The butt plate is actually the same as the one on all other 700 (and 800?) series rifles. I’ve replaced that with an aftermarket one from MEC.

What others should know:

Feinwerkbau is one of a few manufacturers of high quality ISSF standard air rifles. If you have a look at 10 meter air rifle competitions on the web, youll see a lot of this version of the 700 shooting at the highest level of competitions. It will eventually be supplanted by the newer 800s but will still be used for years to come.

Things I liked:

Great rifle overall. It is very adjustable and extremely easy to adjust. You can bring a wrench to the line and easily tweak it as you shoot if you want. Most of the parts have a great range of motion (compared to an Anschutz which I used to shoot). You can change the position of the trigger and also the weight very easily. It is not too light, good for an older shooter i.e. Teenagers and older (Could be too heavy for younger people). The grip is very easy to grip because of the surface and the cheek peice is a great soft texture. The palm rest it comes with gives the shooter all the height it can within the rules except for maybe 1/4 of an inch. OVerall, a great rifle.

Things I would have changed:

I would give the rifle more adjustment on the length of pull. For a tall shooter like myself, more adjustment on that piece would benefit my position. Be warned, the rifle did not come with any extra apertures for the front sight. It only came with a 4.2 or a 4.0. I can't remember which. Those are the only things I can complain about.

What others should know:

It comes in a cardboard box in a Styrofoam clam shell. Have a case ready when the rifle arrives because it won't come with any permanent source of storage or transportation besides the cardboard box.

Things I liked:

State-of-the-art match air-rifle with uncompromising accuracy at 10m. If you don't shoot a 10 with every shot, don't blame the rifle. It will put 5 pellets through one hole at 10m, and the proof is stuck right to the front-page of the owner's manual in the form of the centre of a test-target. It has one hole, and 5 pellets went through it! Totally recoll-less, even the tiny acceleration of the 8.5gr pellet moving is cancelled out by a recoil-absorber behind the loading-port. The only clue that the rifle has discharged is a sharp "snap" . Loading is a breeze - open loading-port lever, insert pellet, close lever, aim & shoot. Everything on this rifle is adjustable. Trigger weight, pull, slack, position. Length of pull, cant, height of cheekpiece, position and cant of fore-end, angle of the hand-grip both fore-and-aft and in rotation. It's well worth taking the time to custom-fit this machine to your physique so the sights fall into line effortlessly every time you mount the rifle to your shoulder. A spare cylinder is probably the best investment you can make as far as accessories go. Cylinders charge to 200Bar (3000psi) and a DIN-threaded fill-adapter is supplied. A yoke can be bought at SCUBA shops to adapt the fill-adapter to the K-valve still found on many SCUBA-tanks. Alternatively, a hand-pump (Hill, FX, Axsor etc) can be used. I prefer the SCUBA-tank. One cylinder will easily shoot four 60-shot matches. This is simply a perfect 10m shooting-machine.

Things I would have changed:

This is a long rifle, and some people find it tends to be a little muzzle-heavy. In the UK, some shooters have shortened the outer barrel-shroud by an inch or so. I'm not so sure this is entirely necessary for any but the most diminuitive of shooters. The barrel proper is only about 18 inches long and sits inside the silver "barrel" which is in fact a shroud for protection and for mounting the foresight and foresight-holder. Before undertaking any such modification, learn to shoot this rifle properly. Get coaching in the correct stance, learn to use a shooting-glove and jacket, and then see if the balance is still too muzzle-heavy. About the only other thing possibly worth mentioning is the rear aperture-sight is not adjustable for size of aperture. For most shooters this is of no consequence, but some shooters may wish to replace it with a Gehmann or Anschutz aperture with an adjustable iris. I have a P700 with an adjustable iris and one with the standard aperture and for me there is really no discernable difference.

What others should know:

There are four principal manufacturers of match air-rifles for 10m competition; Anschutz, Steyr, Walther and Feinwerkbau. From my observations, the Feinwerkbau seems to outnumber the others. You can't argue with success.
