Assembled in Crosman's plant in Bloomfield, New York, the Benjamin Trail NP2 is a significant improvement over the original Nitro Piston powerplant. For starters, it has a lower cocking effort. Who doesn't like that?
Second, it's remarkably quiet. A real plus if you hunt or prefer not alerting your neighbors that you're shooting in the backyard.
Another improvement is the new trigger. A crisp trigger with predictable let-off is an aid to accuracy. And I'm guessing that precision is the No. 1 reason you buy any air gun.
You'll get your choice of scope plus rings and a Benjamin sling. The scope will help you home in on your targets, and the sling will lighten your load as you go out in the woods and fields to plink and hunt.
Lastly, this comes with a wood stock. It seems more and more guns come with synthetic stocks, but there's something to be said for having wood instead of plastic!
If you purchase the .22-caliber rifle, your box may state the wrong velocity with lead pellets.

Crosman builds a pretty good Air Rifle, considering it is Chinese parts assembled in the US. Having said that, for the price, you can not beat it. I own several Crosman products, all with different power plants, and I do love 'em. This "Benjamin Trail", is my first experience with the "Nitro Piston2" Series and so far I am VERY PLEASED. I am writing this 'review' with less 50 pellets sent down range, and right now, I see little difference between the NP and NP2 (cocking effort, sound, recoil), with that said, I am completely satisfied with my NP's, and if the NP2 gets better with its break-in (as I would expect) that is just a bonus. Love the wood stock. Love the Full Shrouded Barrel. Love the "impact" with a .22 pellet I do like the "CenterPoint" scope and I have experienced no problems with my other 3-9x40AOE CP scopes.
Things I would have changed:On this Air Rifle- I don't know if I would change anything, as that would raise the price point. - - I might humbly suggest to "Crosman USA" - that their "Quality Control" could use some improvement. My last Crosman NP (SilverFox .177) showed up with a crushed 'Breech Seal'- a $3.00 part from Crosman w/ a $20.00 shipping charge. Needless to say I am looking for "breech seals" w/o the outrageous shipping costs.
What others should know:Purchase ALOT of pellets... as this .22 air rifle has a VERY HIGH 'Fun Factor'.

What is there not to love about this Rifle! Ive had it for little over a Year killed many squirrels and Raccoons anywhere from ranges of 20 to 35 yrds all Head shots! Found that the 14.3 grain shoots the best from Hollow point to destroyers and Doom! Grouping a dime size from 15 to 30 yrds! Ive added water line Foam to the Grip to give a Bigger grip due to me having big Hands it has able me to use less Pull on the trigger which gives a Smoother And steady hand! Love this Rifle and Buying another before winter! I have the .22 cal! My better half hasn't shot anything in 10 years and she is grouping a quarter Group! So time for me to pass mine down and get the new SBD for more Meat on the Table!
Things I would have changed:Like to see A lighter trigger spring and polished trigger for smoother trigger!
What others should know:Aim small Miss Small!

Will the .25 caliber barrel from a Trail xl fit the Trail np2?
No, sorry. They're very similar guns by design, but different enough that the parts are not interchangeable. Your only option would be to buy the XL barrel, or an aftermarket one, and machine it to fit your barrel block. Fyi your velocity would likely be ~650fps using std 25gr pellets, so be sure that's something you want. The XL has a lot more power so if you really have to have .25 then I'd consider getting one. The only gun that can fire a .25 at a good velocity is a pcp like the Marauder, and the MRod will be insanely more accurate on avg. The MRod is a lot quieter too.
Is this the equivalent of the Regal NP (also Benjamin) but just the more common version and not a Big 5 exclusive? Is one better than the other?
The Regal is a B18 model, like the old Trail Hardwood and just about all the Crosman break barrel guns excluding the NP2 and XL. The XL is basically a larger B18 called the B22. The NP2 is an updated version of the Benjamin Legacy from ~2004. The Legacy and NP2 is very similar to the B18 but different. Like Ford and Chevy are really very similar yet parts don't interchange. The NP2 is more powerful too so if you want .22 I'd consider it over the B18. The NP2 is also a little better quality, on avg...
My opinion but if i had to make that choice it would choose this one ? More often than not the more you pay for something the better quality you get. Good luck with that .
what is the difference between NP and NP2?
Read my reply to the post above on these guns. They both started out as coil spring guns and evolved to gas spring. The magnum B18 is the B22 (Trail XL) and the magnum Legacy is the NP2. The NP2's power sits between the B18 and B22. You can get the parts lists from the Crosman website if you want to see exploded diagrams: tinyurl.com/Crosman-Parts
NP2 is an upgraded version of NP, see Crosman's commercial on the Description tab, or Airgun Reporter's review.

It's very accurate when shot correctly
Things I would have changed:Longer barrel mite help with a little longer range accuracy
What others should know:If you want this gun to be accurate you have to be very consistent with the way that you shoot it, the right pellets help a bunch too
