Things I would have changed:put some sort of rubbery material on the grip and forearm, the synthetic stock could slip out of your hands in wet conditions. thats about it, the scope is not as bad as everyone says, and the trigger will definitely get the job done for now. maybe for as long as i own it
What others should know:the remington genesis is the only other high powered airgun i've owned besides this, and while the genesis feels like a more solid gun, this easily performs just as well if not better. right out of the box after cleaning some of that black stuff out of the barrel it was shooting tight groups while sighting the scope. this gun is a bit touchy about how you hold it, but hold it the same each time and it will never let you down. i've had mine for about 4 days now and its already becoming attached to my shoulder. people who complain about the scope must have missed the instructions on how to focus the eyepiece cause mine is pretty much crystal clear. this gun is a steal for the money, and since it likes the gamo red fires so much it might be a designated hunter, leaving plinking for the other horse in the stable.

Things I liked:Great gun for the money... I am using the stock scope that the gun came with and consistantly hitting pop / beer bottles at 33 yards measured out !! No cheating on the distance either... That's with PBA Ammo.... Not into killing, so I can't comment on that subject.....

Things I would have changed:My only complaint is the scope creep... Purchased a gamo stop and am not real happy with it.. Cannot figure out the right tool to adjust... I would purchase another brand of stop or another scope..
What others should know:I purchased a cheap Plano case and keep my allen and star wrenches with plenty of the PBA ammo on board.... Protects the gun .... You cannot beat the price for this gun !!!

Things I liked:It's powerful. Very powerful and it's pretty tough. Very easy to cock and fun to shoot. The gun is accurate, even though with the spring I'm not as good as I'd like. This is great for pest control, especially for "older eyes". This is a lot of gun with a scope for the price. I also like how fast Pyramyd turned the order around

Things I would have changed:The trigger sucks and it could be better. I think they could bump the price $12 and have a real winner of a gun with a better trigger.
What others should know:Fortunately, you can buy a new trigger for a very reasonable price from Charlie da Tuna http://charliedatuna.com/about.htm I'm doing it.
Also, you must understand that you can't shoot this gun like a regular rifle or a pump airgun. Your hold must be very light and you must not let the stock touch anything hard while you're shooting. Also, there will be huge variability between different pellets. How much? Well, the difference between a cheap, daisy wadcutter and a Beeman Silver Bear was over 2" over just 12 yards. Find the pellets you like best and only use those (sight your scope for them).

What others should know:I bought this pellet gun to eliminate gophers and jack rabbits that were eating my lawn, flowers and trees. It certainly packs a punch compared to cheaper air rifles I have owned in the past. I can't seem to get her dialed in accurately though with the scope provided. I get it shooting fairly good groups at 30 yards on paper, then go to shoot a pest such as a jack rabbit a few days later and miss. When I go back to paper I see it is off quite a bit. I have taken the scope off numerous times, used loctite on the screws, etc. but to no avail. I am going to buy a decent scope and my guess is it will be deadly accurate then.

What others should know:Right out of the box before shooting, I used a bore laser to check the scope "cross hair" to see if they were close at 20 yds. A few clicks up and a couple clicks left and the cross hair was aligned with the laser dot. I had this scope "dead on" at 20 yards after shooting only 5 shots. I've seen where some people have trouble with this scope. I had absolutely no problem at all with the Gamo scope that came with the Big Cat 1200. I highly recommend this rifle!

What others should know:Make sure you have a T-25 Torx Driver to make sure the forend screws are nice and tight. This is not included in the box. The PBA Raptor pellets included are garbage. If this is the sample that GAMO gives out to encourage us to buy PBA ammo they aren't selling it very well. The stuff was visibly flawed with mold marks and some even had ears on the side making them more suitable as a glider than a projectile.

Things I liked:This is a follow up review on the review I just posted. I like everything about the rifle as stated. I love wood, but i am so worried about a single mark on the wood, that it is really not much fun. This Polymere rifle stock is a perfect fit for me, and being a south paw, it makes it all the better. This is the best, all around .177 Break Barrel for the money. if you want manufacturer support., parts availability, stock for left or right handed. Power to take out pest, and super accuracy, a good scope, low cost, the Big Cat 1200 is your best choice., The Scope? It is fine, no problems. Holds zero, easily to sight in, duplex cross hairs.
Things I would have changed:Nothing..The Instruction manual needs to be more detailed.
What others should know:If you think you are missing the rear scope mount stop pin. Remove the scope and look to make sure it is not there. I didn't do that, so I ordered one from GAMO, $2.98 including padded first class mail. When I went to install the new Stop Pin...mine was there!..DUH... As mentioned, I bought the Big Cat used from an estate at a gun store. So I did know the history. Anyway, it is all OK. the stop pin is set up, and the mount is not going anywhere. Note: The stock fasteners, the trigger guard fasteners are Torx Head. No Hex wrench. The scope mount is Torx screws, tjhe rings are hex`wrench. On MY Big Cat 1200.
So, email, call Pyramyd Air, get on the list. $140 ! How can that be?

If you want to have it on "SAFE"...you set it. Good for inexperienced shooters to learn that they have to make decisions in life. Superb balance, right in the middle of the forearm. Notice the Target Crown in the Barrel. This is very important. I bought my used at my local gun shop. He got is from an estate sale. The scope was missing the stop pin in the mount/receiver point. I called GAMO ( Google for their phone number) the stop pin is in the mail for less than $2.98. Anywhere else, and they do not carry such liitle things, figure on a huge UPS truck coming up your mountain We live in on a mountain. The GAMO Big Cat 1200 is accurate. Dropped in some cheapo Crosman .177 pointy things..all in one hole, bench rest, at 30 feet tuning up the scope. Do not pass this rifle up. It is a hammer. GAMO has super customer support. I think this is very important. NO screwing around for the little things or questions. Yes, I love wood too, but this stock will not make you worry about any dings or marks.
Things I would have changed:A much more detailed manual. That is it ! Learned about the scope mount stop pin reading these reviews.
What others should know:This Big Cat 1200 kicks. It is loud. You feel as though you have done something, and you have. Be it paper or pest, it will do more than its job if you do yours. Just sit down, and email PyramydAir and buy it...you will thank all of us..

Things I liked:Incredi-power, and with the right pellet. That's Beeman Kodiak Extra Heavy -- buy them when you buy this gun, with them it is dead-on accurate.
Things I would have changed:It's a finicky eater; feed it the wrong pellet and it will let you know! I wonder if that could be a barrel crowning issue, but I'm getting excellent accuracy now so I'm not going to experiment with jigs and polishes. Whatever the cause, pellets like Crosman Premier that have been quite accurate in other guns I own, were disappointing in the Big Cat.
What others should know:I tried nine pellet types (four brands, Crosman, RWS, Gamo, Beeman) with varying success, before I tried those Kodiaks. Beeman's pellets are visibly more cleanly made than the Crosman and Gamos I tried, and each of the three Beeman types I tried gave good results, but the Kodiaks were astonishing. I use a trap with an inch of plumber's putty behind the targer, but now I'll have to change that, because they're so accurate in this gun that at 40 feet (without a rest) the pellets are following each other into the same hole, and drilling into the wood backboard. On impulse I stuck a penny into that clay, and after six shots poor Abe was dead -- split in half by repeated hits.

I was hitting bullseye at 30 yards after 10 minutes of sighting in.
I love the balance and feel of the rifle. Some of my others are too front heavy so it's gets tiring holding it up after awhile. This one is well balanced and is a joy to shoot. LOVE IT!!!!
Things I would have changed:Nothing. I like it as it is.
What others should know:This gun is solid but not so heavy that it gets tiring to shoot. If you just want a fun and accurate air rifle this is the one.

Things I would have changed:The scope takes forever to calibrate & I assume I'm not the only one who has a problem with it. I'm considering a new one when the weather changes and I concentrate more on winter varmint kills. I would've bought this without the scope if that option was available. Also, you're going to forfeit a degree of accuracy when you use lead pellets instead of the alloy ones. But for the price, I've been using the Crosmann hollow points exclusively. You get adjusted to the difference. Finally, I'd like a sling mount.
What others should know:There's a reasonably priced Venturi Gas Spring conversion available that Pyramyd can do in-house if you send the rifle to them.

Things I would have changed:Stay with the black stock and solid metal behind the dovetails. Include iron sights of some kind. A scope is great but I would like to have the option.
What others should know:I have actually purchased 2 of them one for me and my dad. My rifle is much nicer. It has a black stock with GAMO engraved in the stock. It also has solid metal all the way to stock. The stock has like an insert on the underside. Like a plug or something. Looks really cool. I was kind of disapointed when I got Dad's home to see the light grey and piece of plastic/rubber just behind the scope dovetails. It shoots just as good as mine. The first one has that polished appearance down cold. If anyone knows what I am talking about please post it. Just want to make sure I did not get the one and only.

Things I would have changed:The trigger is a bit...well bad. It's like engaging third gear in an old truck without a clutch. But on the upside it is consistently like shifting into third gear on an old truck without a clutch.
What others should know:The scope works fine. Set it up like the directions say using the stop pin and you should have no problems. I found the gun to be very accurate right out of the box. With less than 50 shots I was able to shoot thumb tacks at about 10 yards; about three shots at each on average and at 25 yards keep all the shots on a playing card, most in the black ace of spades, all this off hand. I would not read much into the break-in and scope trouble. I think it is more likely the various shooters getting used to a new gun or maybe their first gun. The 'twang' you hear shooting the gun is not heard a few yards away.

Things I would have changed:When you break the barrel, there's a little rubber o-ring that seals the barrel to the rest of the rifle upon closing. I would have put the o-ring on the barrel side instead of the other because the bottom side is starting to wear away where the locking tooth on the barrel rubs across it each time you cose the barrel. No problems out of it so far. Seems to still hold it's seal and it just as powerful and accurate as when I first fired it.
What others should know:I never knew airguns could kick until I bought this rifle. I think it's a great added touch especially if using this to teach a young person how to properly use a weapon. I bought a different scope than the one that comes with the Big Cat, but in all honesty unless you're going for pinpoint accuracy the scope that comes with it is enough for a rifle that's not going to fire much farther than 100 yards with any sting anyways. I love my Big Cat all the same.

What others should know:I noticed that a lot of reviews had problems with the scope that was included. I too had this problem, and that's because the spring hits hard and the rings don't hold so well. What I did was instead of buying a new scope (which isn't a bad idea) however for about 4$ if you go down to ACE Hardware and buy some "Blue" not ("Red") Permatex thread locker, which is like a non permanent adhesive that will hold your threads tight so that the rings wont move. I put this on, let it dry for a few hours, re-sighted my gun in and now it shoots like a dream. I can hit a .40 cal shell at 30yds with the scope that came with the gun!

What others should know:Buy a different scope and scope mounts because this gun has quite a lot of recoil. I am going to do that and get the GRT III trigger and then this gun will be able to live up to it's potential, I would recommend this gun but only if you do those necessary upgrades

Things I would have changed:Nothing ...( about the gun it's self )
What others should know:I've had this gun for several months now and the only problem i've had with it was the scope that comes with it when you buy the package deal.
I noticed it would shoot a wild shot about every 3 - 5 rounds or so and if you shot it long enough the scope would just go further and further out of adjustment .
So i bought a CenterPoint Adventure Class 3-9x40mm non illuminated rifle scope and it totaly made a new gun of the BigCat !
I can now take soda cans at 50 yards in just a shot or 2 depending on how shakey i am that day ....so if you buy the combo and your have'in accuracey trouble don't toss the gun or blame the gun till you try a new scope ...The CenterPoint i mentioned was very afordable and easy to sight in and i promise you'll love the two together.

2. Either remove the scope and add a better one, or plain out remove the scope and drop the price.
3. Include a Gamo brand Scope Stop (not the hole on the actual rifle).
What others should know:This gun seems like it has some decent power, I've never fired it at an animal, but it'll surely take a few different ones out. It's accuracy is amazing, I haven't even mounted the scope and I've been able to hit cans from about 25 yards away, without any sights (don't forget, it doesn't come with sights). I mainly got it for some target practice fun, and rodent control (So far none have shown up, but that's the way I like it). Anyhow, long story short, rifle is worth the money, works well, and the coking effort doesn't even feel anywhere near 38 pounds, more like 20 something.

What others should know:it will out out shoot some high end rifles out there for sure but the groups will not be close if you dont remember the hold everyime. Likes Crossman hollow points 7.9 gr and shoots same hole consistently if you hold it the same way each and every time when you zeroed it. Great deal!!!!

Shoots great but do not expect same hole shots consistently. They drilled a scope stop pin hole AMEN on that and yes the feel is way better than the other Gamo's on a synthetic stock.
Things I would have changed:tighter barrel specs so it will not wiggle left to right. That cheap scope package should be optional.
What others should know:Get the GRT 3 trigger option to make the trigger as light as you can bjut be very carefull as it can be dangerous if set too light. Get Crossman premiers in a brown box or Crossman hollow points in a tin of 500 and you are set to go.
It really shoots well after 1000 + shots and when this rifle is tuned, it will shoot way better.
Just don't expect too much on accuracy if you can't hold it the same way every time. It will seem that the scope is bad but it is how you hold and pull the trigger that determines the exact zero. ENJOY

Things I would have changed:the accuracy was thrown off at times when i was shooting for a hour or so. im pretty sure it was because i wanst tightening my leapers scope on tight enough, but thats just me. also... i really wish gamo put some iron sights on this cat. when i am shooting without a scope it throws me off. :(
What others should know:great gun. clean it often to prevent rust.
incase anyone was wondering, i get the best results accuracy wize (when the scope is PROPERLY zeroed in) with gamo pro magnums, and crosman premiere hollow points. ovrall, you must buy this gun if ur into hunting, plinking and target shooting.

What others should know:This is one of the best out of box shooters I have purchased in this price range. The lockup is nice and tight and the rifle is as accurate as you can get. The Big Cat also tunes up to be a really nice shooter. I followed a bunch of information at airgunone.com about self tuning this rifle and mine now feels and shoots better than most rifles I have owned and shot double its price. You're not spending a whole lot, so don't be surprised if it's a little rough around the edges (heavy recoil, loud twang, stiff trigger). It'll smooth out to be a much better rifle than any other in its price range, unless you do a little work to it.

Things I would have changed:i would definatly change the gamo trigger. i took off the scope from another rifle that i had and worked perfect. the stock scope is trash.
What others should know:it has a loooonng break in period. for the first 2 tins of crosman premier hollowpoints it was shooting no better than 1 and a half inch groups. after the brek in period with the same pellets it was making 3\4 inch groupings at 30 yards.

Things I would have changed:A better scope indeed, just bought a new center point 9x40 dual illuminated scope witch should do nicely when i get it. im not very much liking the gamo scope that comes with the gun..... also buy a scope stop since it does not come with one witch it should! because the recoil will push it back overtime witch is a drag....
What others should know:when you have a rifle+scope a "LaserLyte" laser bore sight will help you set up your rifle to perfecto! don't go wasting your ammo lining up your scope.
and as i said, buy a "scope stop" and a new scope!
happy shooting!

Things I would have changed:I would have rather bought this without the scope and saved 20 bucks, also it would be nice is it had open sights
What others should know: The trigger is bad, at first. But after putting over 900 pellets through it, it became much better. the scope is o.k.i guess, but i bought a better one and it made a world of difference when it came to my accuracy.
This is my first spring piston air gun and i love it. I took me a while to get used to it and learn how to grip it the right way (and trust me the way you handle it does make a difference). Once i got it right i was getting hole-in-hole shots at 10 yards and dime sized groups at 30 yards. All and all its just a great gun.
On to ammo. My Bigcat loves beeman crow-magnums. I tried the crosman premier hollowpoints and found that most of them still had flash on them, and they were very dusty. Some fit to snug, while others didn't fit snug enough. I didn't even try the pba ammo as it can be bad for a spring piston gun to shoot something that is too light.
In closing, to people having trouble learning how to shoot this gun, Pyramyd air has great tips in their blog. It helped me a lot.

Things I liked:Design of the rifle makes this gun handle well. feels like I am shooting a real rimfire rifle without all the noise. Trigger pull is good. I like the stock design with cheeck rest. Feels durable and tough for hunting. Accuracy on my gun is starting to come in after about one hundred shots. I just put five group shot in a .750 diameter circle. I am very pleased with my air rifle. for the price how can you go wrong with quality like this.
Things I would have changed:I think the one piece mount would be great for this rifle. I might put a larger scope on mine latter. so I can try some long shots. I am shooting 30 meters away right now and as stated above .750 group and the gun is not through the break in period .I know it can group way better.
What others should know:Be patient with the scope. Retighten the mount screws after the first 50 or so shots. These are new mounts and the recoil of the gun at first will cause the screws to loosen . once the gun starts to settle down, the screws will not have to be tightened as often. Remember this is a new Gun and these spingers are very powerful . So Its all part of the newness of the powerplant.

What others should know:The scope is garbage but works. Not that I would change that. It is basically to keep the cost down and will do until you can get a better one. Don't let it steer you away form the gun. It is a great gun for beginners and seasoned air gunners. The gun is more accurate than I am at reasonable ranges. Break in takes a few tins so be patient. I would buy this gun again. I am not going to tell you it is better than guns costing many times over, but I will tell you that is is better than anything I have tried in this price range. You will not regret this purchase.

Things I would have changed:I would prefer to have the second stage of the trigger adjustable instead of the first. the adjustment only changes the amount of take-up travel before the sear engages, you cannot "lighten" the trigger pull, which if you could, I'm sure it would improve consistency/accuracy.

bottom line stock scope is junk, long break in period, accurate, and powerfull with the right pellet

Things I would have changed:Not really a complaint, but having the scope mounted and boresighted would be a plus. Maybe better instructions on cleaning regimen. Nothing major.
What others should know:When using lead pellets, (Daisy, Beeman, Crosman, etc,) outstanding for cheap trigger time. Also, it's just plain fun to shoot when using a rifle this accurate! Great value. PBA ammo is, in my opinion, not worth the money.

What others should know:If you are into fun plinking at long distances or small game hunting, this rifle will proudly finish any job. The scope stop helps a ton, but make sure to get a better one than the one that comes with it. I was nailing targets from 100+ yards away with this thing. This gun is one of the best pellet rifles available today and it is very dependable. Small game cannot stand up to this thing. Very very powerful. If you buy heavier lead ammo, you will deliver alot more power downrange and this rifle handles it fine.

Things I would have changed:put on a better scope. needs a more toutchy trigger.
What others should know:this gun is awesome. make sure you lower the horizantal stopping pin into the hole or else the scope will move around and completely screw up your scope stop. my big cat loves the crossman premeir hollowpoints and the crossman hunter pellets. the pba pellets arent very accurate with it, it allways seems like they fly off somewhere. this is a great airgun for the price and i highly recommend it. also make sure you buy gamo pellet gun oil for it. oil all moving parts, before you use it, after you use it, and before you put it away for a while. its also nice to put a drop down the barrel before you use it. you should clean out the barrel every 600 or 750 shots, because the lead buildup inside the barrel dramaticly changes the accuracy. DO NOT dry fire this gun because the piston can slam too hard and mess it up. if you use cleaning pellets in it, make sure you put the cleaning pellet in first, and then a light pellet like the pba to avoid the piston from slamming too hard.
this is a very accurate gun, i can hit eggs at 70 yards with it, and i can kill bunnys, squirrels, crows, pigeons, doves, sparrows, and starlings at 50 yards. for a .177 airgun, thats pretty good

Things I would have changed:Smoothe out the plastic under the trigger guard. That thing cut me open after about 50 shots.
What others should know:I purchased the crosman phantom with the gray barrel and illuminated scope. And to tell you the truth, I was not as impressed with the performance of it like I am with the Big Cat. The crosman looks and feels awesome, but weights a ton, and is nowhere as powerful as the big cat.
One thing you might want to know is that it does make this little weird noise when you pump it, but its a small price to pay for high power.
It is exactly what all the people say "ITS A SLEEPER".
By the way, it is extremely deadly when you combine it with the Beeman Crow Magnums. I took out a raccoon at about 25 yards with one shot.
Great job GAMO.

Things I would have changed:Definitely change the scope and trigger. Not that there that bad, but if you really want to customize it, you will want to update these. The scope is very wishy-washy. A lot more accurate than people have been saying, but you'll want to spend the extra cash for a nicer one. Same with the trigger.
What others should know:My suggestion, get the bipod, new scope, and trigger. You don't have too as this thing is an amazing value for the money. I have to agree with what one of the reviewers said, I think this thing is a sleeper. EXTREMELY powerful! Very accurate if you know what you're doing. I put on a Leapers scope and am considering doing the Gas Spring Conversation for this, as this thing does have a kick to it. I'm just amazed for the price how incredible this thing is. I shot with a friend of mine who purchased the Gamo Whisper Deluxe, and all he wanted to do is shoot mine instead! He loved the weight of the Big Cat 1200. All-in-all, a great gun for the value, with one heck of a punch! You honestly won't believe it!

Things I would have changed:I suggest you change your underwear after shooting this gun for the first time. The recoil is nice at first.
What others should know:The scope was a bit tough to put on, but i managed. When I did eventually get it to stay, I had some adjusting to do. There's a little black screw on the rear scope mount which helps alot. Therefore no replacement scope is needed unless you have the vision of a bat.

Things I liked:Lightweight, powerful
Things I would have changed:Scope. The scope that comes with it is a piece of junk. I saw that the gun was made in Spain and after about 25 shots and couldn't even hit an 8 x 11'' target, I saw that the scope was a China product and understood then. I took the good scope off of my 22 and mounted

I took the good scope off of my 22 and mounted it on the Gamo. 3 shots later, I was zeroed in to a quarter sized bullseye at 30 yds.
What others should know:Change the scope!

Things I liked:the weight at under six pounds is amazing. Ibt makes it a great hunting rifle. the synthetic stock makes for low maitnence and the POWER! this may sound dumb, but i shot a gamo super point straight through a boot at ten yards. i used the boot to sight in my new scope for close range. the accuracy is amazing also.

Things I would have changed:the scope
What others should know:I bought a UTG .22 5/8 rail converter and bought new1" mounts for a NEW SCOPE. my scope, when i went to sight it in, shortly after taking it out of the box, the shot was under the cross hairs and I coulnd't go any lower on the scope. My solution was puting a few layers of friction tape on the bottom. Now This Scope Gun combo is great. I still have to adjust the scope after about every 50-100 shots. Also oiling and cleaning it greatly improve the accuracy and power. I try to do this every week.
