8 of 8 Gamo Hunter Elite Reviews
This air rifle is very powerful, I love the fit and finish. I think some people might object to the weight, but Im a big guy and I like it. It really feels like a real rifle. The scope is not worthy of the rifle so I replaced it with a leapers 3.9x50 this thing is dead on target.
Things I Would Have Changedhigher grade scope
Good looks, well designed. With the included scope (which is excellent) this is a tackdriver of an air rifle. Like others have said, it takes a while to break in. After several hundred shots, this rifle delivers at long range-think consistently hitting a bottlecap at 50 yards. Cocking is easy. In general the gun has a very balanced, precise feel.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe trigger is an obscenity. Get an aftermarket trigger if you want to even begin to tap the potential of this rifle.
What Others Should KnowThis rifle takes quite a while to break in. Give it time!! It is well worth it.
Pellet-wise I get the best results with Crosman Premier Lights....for some reason this rifle doesn't do well with any of the others I've tried. Above all else DO NOT use the PBA ammo in this rifle!!! I did, and within 4 months the mainspring broke. That stuff is bad medicine, and besides, it is capable of zero accuracy.
If you're looking to shoot at long range (50yds+) with accuracy, this is the rifle for you. Of course it won't reach out to 100yds, but you will be surprised at what it can do if you give it some room.
Just remember...NEVER, EVER use the the PBA ammo.
The included scope was better than I had expected. It is of high quality and really adds to the effective range and accuracy of the rifle. Cocking the spring is almost effortless which is a big plus when you shoot alot.
Things I Would Have ChangedMake sure all parts are locked in before you shoot.
What Others Should KnowBefore you ever shoot the air rifle, take the time to lock tight every screw and the scope. This insures that the recoil of the rifle won't jare anything loose. Trust me, it will if you don't secure the parts properly.
If the consistancy of the groups you shoot don't please you at first, that's fine. After several hundred shots, the barrel works in and you can shoot incredible groups at long range. I've shot several starlings from an excess of 40 yards.
When you pull this one out of the box the first thing you'll notice is how BIG that Bull Barrel is! It is immaculate! This one shows a very good effort on Gamo's behalf. Good sized scope too although you will definitely spend the better of an afternoon dialing it in. Once it's dialed it is a pleasure to shoot. The power on the Hunter Elite is up there as well. I don't have a crony but in comparison to my other Gamo's you get what you're paying for and it's well worth it.
Things I Would Have ChangedGamo's infamous trigger. I sent mine to CharlieTheTuna for this very reason. The trigger pull takes away from the efficiency and accuracy of this otherwise well made air rifle. If you don't mind voiding your warranty for a tune-up and a new trigger(GRT3) the results you'll get in the end are nothing short of fabulous! GOOD GUN! Out of the box it's a hard hitter but that trigger has got to go and that's why I've given 4 Stars for accuracy. The scope has some mild parallax problems contrary to its marketing. The illumination on the red dot is adjustable from dim to bright and I definitely find this to be a plus. Oh yeah, and about the Raptors... sure they up the velocity but not without sacrifice of better accuracy. Shooting light pellets is hard on the spring and rough on the efficiency of any air rifle. They're depreciating to your air gun. Keep this in mind when your ego wants extreme velocity.
What Others Should KnowThis is a great gun! It's a fun shooter and dependable too! On day two of its arrival I took out a squirrel at 25 yards using Crossman Premier Hollowpoints and that little bugger just dropped! I really wanna thank Pyramyd Air for answering my emails and being the very best in customer service. I also want to thank CharlieTheTuna for making this gun the finest it can be! With a little modification on the trigger and the internals this gun shoots like a high-dollar springer up there with the best of em'!
Acurracy. Look
Things I Would Have ChangedThe one piece scope ring lock down screw did not alighn properly with the hole in the base causing the scope to move damaging the base. New rings solved the problem however, the base is still all scuffed and tore up and I have been unable to get a hold of Gamo custumer service at this time to see if I can get a replacement.
What Others Should KnowThis is a great gun. I have shot 3/8" groups from 15 yards. The pba ammo is overated and shoots the worst groups I have gotten from the gun. I also worry about the light weight of the pba ammo causing damage to the gun over time.
The fit and finish on this gun appears to be of very high quality. I purchased mine about a month ago, and found that Crosman Premier Lights are the most accurate pellet. I can consistently maintain 1/2" groups at 25 yds. The action is very smooth, and the scope has performed beautifully. ( I suspect it is a BSA, manufactured for Gamo). The gun is easy to cock, and has been a pleasure to shoot.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe trigger pull could be a little more light.
What Others Should KnowI for one strongly recommend that users NOT use the gamo pba pellets in this rifle. Any gains in velocity are negated by exceeding the speed of sound, which pretty much destroys any accuracy. Additionally, with their 5g weight, you are risking damaging a higher velocity gun due to piston slamming/lack of enough resistance. Use CP lites or heavies.
looks, power, accurecy, operation, great value for the money
Things I Would Have Changedthe trigger
What Others Should KnowWhen I got the rifle I had trouble zeroing. After quite a bit of fustration I determined the one piece sight mount was defective. It would not allow the scope to properly align with the barrel. Gamo customer service was great. They replaced the mount no questions no charge. Now the rifle is right on. I also have added an after market trigger. The new trigger has transformed the gun from very nice to WOW! I would recommend this gun to any shooter looking for a really excellent spring gun in the middle price range.

This a very hard hitting, accurate gun. Yes, it is a little heavy but it is an adult springer and it feels solid. Unlike others, I have not had any problems with the scope that came with it. It hits where I aim it with a less than 1 inch grouping consistently.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe trigger is not solid, but pressed steel. I would give it a better, solid "real" trigger. Trigger pull is fine, but I just like the feel of cold hard solid steel.
What Others Should KnowIf you are looking for a versatile, accurate hard hitting springer at a great price, buy it. It's great for anything from short to medium range target shooting to dispatching small pests at up to 40+ yards.
