Ballistic & Conversion Calcs
The HW97K is related to one of the first - and finest - underlever field target rifles ever made. Coming from the famed plant in Germany, it's proving to be just as accurate. Even if you're not a field target enthusiast, you'll enjoy shooting this rifle! It's great for metallic silhouettes, plinking, shooting spinners and paper targets, and accurate enough to do some serious hunting. If you're hunting game and eliminating pests, .20 or .22 caliber should be your choice.
The quality of the polishing and bluing on the steel action, barrel and underlever exceeds what you'd normally find on comparably priced firearms. The blue laminated stock has a raised RH cheekpiece on the Monte Carlo buttstock. The stock is capped with a soft rubber recoil pad to give you ultimate control.
The Rekord trigger, which is praised by shooters and admired by competitors, adjusts to your needs. The 11mm grooves in the receiver make it easy to mount a scope (it does not come with open sights). If you like the simplicity and ease of shooting a spring-piston gun, then give the HW97K serious consideration.
Don't forget to pick up a variety of pellets, which are listed in the AMMO link. Several scopes have been suggested in our ACCESSORIES link, so pick one that works for the type of shooting you plan to do. Remember to also pick up some targets, cleaning gear and safety glasses!

The finish is top notch. The trigger. Being a bench shooter I really like the weight of the rifle. ACCURACY

What others should know:Mine is the .177. My best groups come from H&N Baracuda Match 10.65, 4.52mm. I teamed the rifle with a Hawke 6x24 Airmax. I do a lot of bench shooting with this rifle at 30 yards I'm seeing groups inside a dime and at 55 yards I'm getting 1" CTC on non windy days. I shoot a lot of paper targets/metal knock overs out to 60 yards & play at Gun Slynger. This has become one of my favorite rifles.

Weirauch! This is a gorgeous rifle. The fit and finish are superb. I simply cannot find fault with this rifle. I'm quite sure I'll be handing this down to my grandchildren
Things I would have changed:Silencers or effective moderators should be sold for all Airguns. The trigger should allow you to lighten it up even more.
What others should know:This air gun will be tuned a scoped for FT. Pairing it with a Hawke Sidewinder 10-50X60 ED. If it shoots anything like the others I have shot, it will be extremely accurate. I'll update my review after I have had a chance to get it set up properly.

What is max effective range for hunting small to medium size game,pests?
In 22 cal. 75-85 yards.
What is a Moderator?
A fitting on the end of a barrel, hollow,with baffles, that helps reduce the firing report. The HW 97 muzzle fitting is solid, It is a muzzle brake. It does nothing to reduce the firing report.
What is the heaviest pellet (How many grains?) recommended for .22 cal with a HW97K? Looking at not going over 100 yards. Thanks MK
Really depends you could take two 97ks and they will fire differently. Iv'e only used 14.66 as my heaviest I think. But I'm sure many others used heavier just fine.

Saying everything is too cliche, how about superb craftsmanship, ridiculous accuracy, high and smooth pellet velocities? To be completely honest the blue / gray laminated stock still makes me wonder why I waited so long to have a gun that looks this good..
Things I would have changed:Perfection is hard to change but if pressed I would take .25 lbs out to reduce a little weight.
What others should know:Im a big fan of springers and own a RWS 34, RWS 48 and now the HW97K Blue, all are .22 cal.
