Our tech team tested the following pellets in the HW90 and got these results. The velocity was derived from an average of 10 shots with each pellet:
.177 Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum, 10.5 grains:
901 fps, 18.93 ft-lbs
.177 Crosman Premier, 7.9 grains:
1,069 fps, 20.05 ft-lbs
.22 Crosman Premier, 14.3 grains:
574 fps, 10.46 ft-lbs
.22 Skenco (green), 11 grains:
715 fps, 12.49 ft-lbs
When you go hunting with a gun that has a gas spring, you never have to worry about the spring taking a "set." When you cock a gun with a metal spring, you're supposed to shoot it right away. If you leave it cocked too long (and do that too many times), the spring loses strength, remains more compressed when it's uncocked and delivers lower power. That won't happen with a gas spring!
In any caliber, the HW90 makes a great hunting rifle. In .22 cal., it delivers over 20 foot-pounds.

It's a beautifully made rifle right out of the box, and you can stay with the sights it comes with, especially with the .177 version - see below.
Things I Would Have ChangedThis thing has almost too much power. It's hard to cock, so don't think this is an airgun you'll shoot all day without breaking a sweat. For this much power, a muzzle brake would be good. Using different pellets, they generally hit in tight enough groups, but those groups can be as much as 8 inches apart at 20 yards.
What Others Should KnowUse heavy pellets! - such as the Crosman Premier domed pellets, 10.5 grain - these tend to be the most accurate.
Don't use pointed pellets (my RWS Superpoints go all over the place, they're just too fast).
