Things I liked:Solid construction, good wood. I use the peep sight, and I like it very much. The sight picture is good inexpensive practice if you have a peep sighted battle rifle. I got 1 inch groups at 25 yards with crossman premier hp .22 pellets. It was fun holding high, and hitting the metal gongs at 75 yards.

Things I liked:This size and weight is comfortable for an adult.
Things I would have changed:I would like a better scope mounting system. I'm up in the years and can't see so well so the scope is the way for me to go though the sights work well.

Things I liked:Solidly made, does not require CO2 cartridges, does not have the spring piston kick. 22 cal pellet is substantial and hits hard. It will probably not be used reqularly, but in grab and go situations so I did not want something fiddly. I also wanted something that would last for many years, perhaps to be passed on to my young son. This rifle has stood the test of time, and is mostly unchanged over the years - a successful design. I bought it based on the reviews of other owners and my memory of this type of rifle from my youth. Upon receiving it, I believe I my objectives will be satisfied - a good purchase.
Things I would have changed:Perhaps the sights. While the iron sights work well, my eyes are aging and in less that very favorable light, it is hard for me to sight it well. I may add a light colored dot to the (barrel-end) sight, so I can find it easier in low light. Or, I may try a Williams peep sight. I like to keep it simple though. I'm hittling what I'm shooting at, but it takes me longer to find the sight than I'd like.
Trigger pull is a bit long. I'm expecting it to smooth out a bit with use. Having said that, I'd buy one again tomorrow if I needed a pellet gun.
What others should know:A good purchase, if it fits your needs. Also, the "Ten for ten" option is a good option, both in saving you the hassle of returning the merchandise if there is a problem (it's mechanical, stuff happens), and more importantly, they send you a chrono of the pellet speed with one, two , three pumps, etc. Most informative, and you will find that you can acutally "dial in" the velocity/impact you desire.

Things I would have changed:i would of like to see actuall blueing like my 397 instead of some cheap paint to where i would like to add has runs in it. the wood work on it need alot of improvement. the finish was very dissapointing. theres somewhat a large gap between the stock and forearm pump. would look alot nicer if there wasnt so much of a gap.. benjamin(crosman) needs to put more quality into this gun like the older models. get rid of the cheap plastic trigger guard.. trigger isnt as smooth as my older models and the bolt feels stiff but i still need to break it in more. hopefully at least that changes.
What others should know:for the price its a great gun good for backyard fun and a very good hunter but remember u only get that single shot and u gotta repump.

Things I would have changed:I just wish that the price would be just a bit less, but it's still worth it!
What others should know:The more pumps equals the most power, but don't pump over eight times, or it will damage the airgun.

What others should know:I purchased this gun in Jan 09, it was a remanufactured .22 cal. My 3 sons (9, 12, & 14) helped clean it up and sight it in. We added a Leapers $40.00 scope and now everyone likes guns with scopes. The remanufactured gun saved about $80 off the going rate. I love this style of pump because it's very affordable and in little time it can be sighted and you're hitting your target at 35 yrds and feel good about the success. I had a .177 in this same style when I was 10 yrs old. At 16yrs I fell while crossing the Indian Creek/River in Kuna ID. I lost my footing while crossing on a train bridge and dropped the gun in the river and was not able to retrieve it. I purchased another .177 about 20 yrs later and also purchased the .20 cal nickel plated. Now I have all three calibers in the same style and I think for the money they're an awesome gun for having fun, teaching gun safety and aiming skills. I've never had one of these air rifles fail or become unservicable. All of these guns I would say are very reliable, accurate, and a usful training tools.

Things I liked:powerful, well made for the most part, accurate. it's been years since i had a Benjamin. still a great rifle.
Things I would have changed:the pump handle should line up just a little better with the stock.
What others should know:nothing i can think of. pretty much your standard pump air rifle.

Things I liked:All wood and metal construction. Brass barrel. Accuracy
Things I would have changed:I might order a peepsight or scope later, but I've had good luck with squirrels with the original open sights.
What others should know:Not an airgun for children. pumps a little hard on last two pumps.

What others should know:Mine had some paint overspray inside the muzzle that affected accuracy. Once I cleaned that out the rifle shoots very well. It loves RWS Superdomes and Daisy wadcutters. Go figure. I mounted a pistol scope using the intermounts, makes a great scout rifle.

Things I liked:EXCELLENT RIFLE! It could have been made better by taking a little extra time at the factory. I smoothed up the trigger added a Air Venturi mount with Leapers scope and it has proved to be a very accurate rifle. I clipped the two aeresol spray nozzles off two cans at 20 yds....first attempts.

Things I would have changed:Bring back the walnut stock they used to build these rifles on. Little better attention to detail. The gap between the stock and the forearm was very exaggerated...should have been tighter.
What others should know:Accurate rifle. Fast becoming one of my favorites. Overall I highly recommend this rifle. The Williams peep sight is probably as accurate and would be faster with experience, but prefer optics.

Things I would have changed:The trigger! It's a long, hard, rough pull to release the hammer--must have been designed by liability lawyers... It would be much better if it were an adjustable two stage trigger instead of the crude single stage it has now, so that you could lighten it to about two to three pounds. The rear sight are also rather crude. My one big wish is that it were made of bronze instead of brass.
What others should know:Although the two most important (to me) aspects of the 392--the trigger and the rear sight--are crude, I still think it's an outstanding airgun for all its other attributes and versatility (plus, I've always wanted one since I was a kid, when I settled on the Crosman 760 instead for some forgotten reason). Both these weaknesses can be addressed with aftermarket parts (such as an improved sear and the Williams/Crosman 64 aperture sight). I didn't rate the accuracy because it's been shooting all over the place since I oiled the pump piston (it may be dieseling?), or I need to try different pellets (used Crosman Premier domed in the cardboard box). A few cosmetic blemishes (runs in the stain on the forestock) also disappoint slightly, but all in all I expect this to be a fun gun that should last a long, long time.

Things I liked:I'm glad so many shooters like this weapon. And why not? For the bang for the buck it cannot be beat. I've owned one for a decade, and when I want to hunt with an airgun, thie 392 is my choice. Sure, I've tried more powerful spring piston guns, but when it comes to accuracy this airgun can't be beat. I've taken out squirells and rabbits and even crows with this baby, and when they're dead they are really, truly, most sincerely dead. And without a scope.
Yes, the gun requires a massive amount of energy to pump - about 200 lbs for 8 pumps. But you don't even NEED 8 pumps. According to Dr. Beeman, 6 pumps gives you 90% of the gun's energy (although I recommend 8 for crows!).
The 392 is tough - really rugged. I've put mine through hell and it still performs the way it did when new. Why? Because it is made of metal and good wood and is one tough S.O.B.
Now - don't get me wrong - this is NOT a plinker. If you want that, get the Benjamin .177. This is a HUNTER.
The trigger is typical Benjamin - very smooth and with a clear break-point. And very good it is.
In 10 years, I have never had a problem with this gun. Oil it; maintain it; shoot it; and love it. It truly is an all-American classic.
Things I would have changed:Nothing. Adding a scope to it (and I've used the B-Square mount) is an exersise in sado-masochism.
What others should know:The "Silver Streak" (now in black) is a .20 caliber rifle and easier to pump.
But it is nowhere near as poweful as the the .22 392. If you hunt, this is the gun for you.

Things I would have changed:a better rear sight would be nice, better packaging my rear sight was bent way to the right when I got it, no fault of pyramid, was crosmans packaging, I bent the sight back and it works good now
What others should know:remember to order some crosman oil with your gun so you can keep it in good working order

Things I liked:liked the wood stock and the over all feel of the gun, the day I got it I sighted it in at 23 feet my buddy saw a tree rat out the garage window so I took the shot and killed it at 29 yards with open sights, wow ! first day and it already made it's first kill, I love this gun
Things I would have changed:the rear sight is a little hard to work with, but when you get it sighted in the gun shoots right where you aim it,

Things I liked:Nice wood stock, good trigger, accurate.
Things I would have changed:Would have gotten scoped model if I would have known how accurate it is.
What others should know:Use heavy pellets and get the scoped one. Very accurate gun for the money.

Things I liked:First, I should note that I bought a remanufactured 392, so I would assume that this gun has been used, and perhaps broken in already. With that in mind, I have not found any of the common complaints associated with this gun. the trigger pull seems light and crisp, I havent had a chance to do a real good sight in yet, but the accuracy seems good so far. the power is awesome! Shot straight through a 5/8" piece of plywood at 20yds! I could still hear the pellet zinging out through the field after it passed through the board!
Also, I love the size of this gun! It has a very nice draw, (I am 5'10", for reference). Also, It is a shorter gun, like a carbine, except that it has a 19.5" barrel, which is longer than most of my springers! the advantage is that the barrel starts back near the trigger, instead of halfway downthe gun, So you get the accuracy and power of a full length barrel, and the compact size of a carbine!
Things I would have changed:The pumping is kind of hard, especially the last dew pumps, but I cant complain too much, since this is here it gets its power from! The gun makes quite a racket every time you close the pump. So charge the gun before you go into the field hunting, and plan on one good shot! I imagine the sights probably would have a hard time adjusting low enough for a 10meter zero, but remember, this is a hunting/field target gun. There's no reason to sight it in at 10meters anyays!
What others should know:flipping to bolt up (as if you were going to load), but leaving it forward locks the trigger, and seems much stiffer and safer than the manual safety. I would recommend using both when carrying the gun loaded. it's still very easy to flip it downard with your thumb when your ready to shoot. Plus, it's more visible from the firing position, making it less likely that you "forget the safety" when you get that perfect shot!
Overall, It is a great gun! Lots of power for hunting, good accuracy, and I only paid $100 for it ( again, I got mine Remanufactured, but it does come with a warranty from Benjamin) I can already see this being my "go to" gun, as it is for so many others!

Things I would have changed:The trigger is mushy at best. takes a little time to get used to it. The iron sights are less then the norm for me. It's hard to pump. This has always been the case though. There is a mod for that. I am not going to change it.
What others should know: You should place a scope or peep sight on top of this classic pump air rifle to really enjoy it's accuracy. I found that RWS 14.2 grain super H domes worked the best in this pellet rifle. Nailed a tree rat at forty yards with about three inches of hold over with a Bushnell 22 rim fire scope on top of the Benjamin392. Really was shocked to see a chunk of fur fly after the shot. Clean one shot kill. ( With the crow magnums I was getting about a 2 inch group a twenty five yards.) The lighter pellet RWS super H domes are doing a 1/2 inch group at the same distance. Guess it just a matter of finding what suits your needs. Paper punching or pest control this pellet rifle hit the spot for me. Suburban carbine at a reasonable price. Has been in production in the USA since 1938. Luckily Crossman has not changed the design. Smart move on there part. Buy one and get used to it. Once you learn how it shoots you will love it. Great tool to teach a youth proper shooting skills.

What others should know:It is a hard gun to mount a scope to in a really solid fashion. I went with the Williams peep sight and am happy with the combo. If you are going to hunt small game (why else would you buy this particular rifle??) get it in .22.

The rear sight is rather difficult to adjust for windage but it can be done with a little effort. The trigger takes a fair amount of pressure to fire.
Things I would have changed:Crosman should put dove tails on top of the receiver, this would allow for easy scope installation. As it is now you must purchase a specialized mount that fits over the receiver or barrel. The rear sight should be easier to see, using a fiber optic sight like the Discovery model would be nice. The trigger pull should be better but it's acceptable.
What others should know:The first time I tried to adjust the rear sight for windage I had to remove the two screws and use a center punch to loosen the rear sight. Once this was done I could then use the screws to adjust the windage. A scope is highly recommended since the iron sights are not that good.

What others should know:Pyramid Air did NOT inspect the gun prior to shipping. It was still in it's original (or lack of packaging)...many bolts were loose and the one holding the stock was completely stripped. of course they made good on it....but thats not the point. Still very poor business move on their part.

What others should know:I chronied mine yesterday and it averages 675 FPS with RWS Superdomes.
I can't complain about a gun that averages within 10 FPS of the mfr's claimed velocity. It does this with only a 10 FPS spread.
Superdomes hit 500 FPS with only 4 pumps.
Eun Jin 28.4 grain pellets hit 510 FPS with 8 pumps. Nearly double the weight with less than 200 FPS loss compared to the Superdomes.
I have NO complaints.
Buy one, you WILL like it. It has quickly become my favorite pumper.

Things I liked:Thirty years ago I used a Sheridan Blue Streak .20 caliber air rifle for small game hunting. What I liked most about it was its extreme accuracy, even with iron sights. The power out to 50 years was not bad either. Today the Benjamin 392 I ordered, with a peep sight, arrived. After mounting the peep sight, cleaning and putting a few pellets through it I settled down to sighting it in, standardizing on 5 pumps on a 10 meter range. With six sets of three shots I brought the grouping down to top dead center of a 1" bull. Two pellets were almost in the same hole, and the third was less than 1/8" away. This puppy shoots the way I remember the old Blue Streak did!
Things I would have changed:I haven't had the rifle long enough to tell if the plastic trigger housing will stand up or not. But, the 392 looks like the Blue Streak, and if it stands up the way the Blue Streak did, and it looks like it will, I will be using this puppy for years to come. The old Blue Streak had a smoother and lighter trigger pull. There is no staging on the 392. You keep pulling harder and harder until it releases. I would guess the pull is around 5-6 lbs. I would add a trigger adjustment to set the poundage on the pull. As it is I will probably order the charliedatuna replacement trigger and housing to make the trigger more sensitive.
What others should know:I couldn't adjust the grouping to dead center on the bull if I wanted to because I had the vertical adjustment of the peep sight a low as it would go without filing a little off the bottom of the riser. If I took off, perhaps, 1/16th of an inch it would probably allow zeroing in at 10 meters. Others have reported this problem in the ratings and I knew about it before I bought the peep sight. It doesn't matter because I doubt I will be shooting much at 10 meters anyway.

Things I liked:I'm 16 and have been shooting whatever random pellet and bb guns many dad has given me, many have not been very accurate or high quality. I made some money from working and decided I wanted to purchase a decent, affordable, accurate gun for shooting in the backyard and an occasional squirrel. Right out of the box it is fairly accurate, but the back sight isn't too good. I bought a crosman 64 peep sight, and the peep sight, at its lowest setting shoots a little too high. I filed down the peep sight, and now the gun is perfectly accurate. If your gonna buy this gun, definitely buy the Crosman 64 peep sight as well, as it makes the gun much more accurate and fun to shoot than it already is. I did not find it hard to pump at all, but I am a pretty strong 16 year old. My little brother who is 13 has trouble pumping it. I have had it for two weeks now and have not had any problems. 3 pumps for target shooting, and 6-8 for squirrels. It is a great gun for anyone who enjoys a powerful, accurate, and fun gun to plink or shoot varmints with.
Things I would have changed:Not a fan of the back sight, and no instructions on how to remove it. If you buy the Crosman 64 peep sight, put it at its lowest setting and file the bottom of it down a little, to make it go lower, because it shoots a little high. Youw ill also have trouble loading the flat head pellets in, stick to pointed or domed pellets.

Things I would have changed:Rear notch sight is poor. Had to bend it to get it adjusted. The "windage" adjustments tilt rear notch sight. Very hard to pump compared to Daisy 22SG.
What others should know:Front blade is rugged but hard to see in low light or against dark foreground. Short pellets tend to roll over in breech. Doesn't seem as loud as noted, but on 8 pumps is louder than Daisy 22SG. I'd rate it 3 not 4.

What others should know:Mine has a bit of slop in the trigger (wobbles a bit from side to side). Benjamin guns are usually very high quality, so this probably just an isolated problem. It doesn't ruin the gun. Flat head pellets are tricky to load.

Things I would have changed:Better wood and factory peep sight installed on base gun, but for the money it is just fine the way it is. Get some Pellgunoil because the gun is shipped very dry.
What others should know:This gun is very accurate and powerful enough for headshots in .22 to quickly dispatch squirrels and rabbits humanely with the right pellet. Mine loves Predators, Premier hollowpoints, and RWS Hobby pellets. Pumping this gun can get tiring, but it's worth it every time you pull the trigger. It' loud ,but I like it that way.

Things I would have changed:Their is a gap between the pump and the rest of the stock it would look better if it was a flush fit.
What others should know:Scope mount- Air Venturi Intermount
Get a pellet sampler (mine likes the RWS MEISTERKUGLN) and you will find the pellet that complements your rifle. My gun was very picky on the pellets it was ether super bad groups or one on top of the other.
Keep at least one pump when storing.

Things I liked:Well made, good wood and steel. Powerful, consistent, kills squirrels fast.
Things I would have changed:Build a better blade sight or include a peep sight in the standard package.
What others should know:Overall, extremely good value at a good price. Buy the Williams peep sight. It's very good and very inexpensive. The blade sights on the Benji are bad. No other complaints.
Minor Woes: My 392 immediately needed serious tightening of several screws and the large bolt in front of the trigger area.
Moderately Annoying: Blade sights in general are not very good, and on the 392 they are as bad as they can be. You can use them--sight them in and make accurate shots--but the rear notched blade sight is nearly completely useless in low/poor light, and it needs delicate handling. I could not lower it far enough to sight in on a short indoor range without taking it apart.
The rear sight is a thin, flexible piece of steel held in tension from its mount on the barrel by a screw. The sight is raised and lowered by turning another screw the sight rests on. Any pressure or wear and tear over time is likely to throw this sight off. So just take it off and put on a Williams peep sight instead.
Putting a scope on a short barreled multi-pump rifle like this seems like it would be an exercise in frustration. A scope requires addition of a mount which must go so far forward on the barrel of this rifle, you'll be leaning a long way further in than is normal.

Things I would have changed:Nothing really
What others should know:This is probably the best value in airguns. This gun is a classic, and the design hasn't changed a whole lot for decades. Think about it, you could spend $300-$400 dollars on a springer that has slightly more velocity (these guns are close to their exagerate advertised velocity), and it won't be anywhere near as accurate. Yes, it can be difficult to pump for younger enthusiasts or those small in stature, but springers can be hard to break open too... It's my go to gun, and if I had to pick, it'd be my only gun.

What others should know:AS A YOUNG SHOOTER I WAS TAUGHT HOW TO SHOOT BY AN EXPERT. I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOOT AND CARE FOR BOTH AIRGUNS AND FIREARMS. I OFTEN SHOT SMALL GAME ON RAW PROPERTY IN THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY. IT WAS VERY QUIET AND THERE WAS TIME TO LEARN THE RIGHT WAY THE 1ST TIME. I STILL RECOMMEND SHOOTERS LEARN THE FINE ART OF PATIENCE. I AM ALOT OLDER NOW AND HAVE BEGUN TEACHING MY KIDS HOW TO HAVE FUN WITH A GUN. IT IS OUR RIGHT AND IT IS A PRIVELEDGE.

Things I would have changed:The triggers are not going to be mistaken for the Wiehrauch Rekord trigger. But they smooth up with use.
What others should know:These can be serviced by the owner/shooter. They don't require any special tools for disassembly. A good Hardware Store will have all the tools necessary. Crosman/Benjamin are happy to supply mechanical drawings by e-mail and to sell parts. My experience with 2 of these has been that they are not as accurate as the .20cal. or .177cal. versions of this rifle. 20yds. or less they are adequate for pest control. But accuracy is the eye of the shooter. The Williams Receiver Sight is superior to a scope on these, in my opinion. The scope mounts for these will walk up and down the barrell due to the action of the pump lever and linkage. And they are not sufficiently accruate to warrant a scope in my opinion. These rifles are WORK to shoot very much! 50 full power shots every day will make a difference in your upper body you can see, before long. They are loud for urban use. A full charge being released outdoors will be recognized as a shot for a good 50yds. in all directions. On the other hand, Power. A spring gun that will thump with this is going to weigh 2-5 lbs. more than this does. For utility and pest control, I think these are real hard to beat!

Things I liked:What's not to like? You cannot beat the price for the quality you get. First off, I have a 397 that's about 8 or 9 years old. Other than a little rust and a few scratches, it still performs like new. The 397 did not disappoint. It's a beautiful gun. It weighs enough to provide you with stability while shooting but not so heavy that you get tired quickly. The accuracy is superb. While lining up my sights, I obtained 1/2" 5 shot groups from 35' with RWS Superdomes and Crosman Premier Domes. Actually, more like 1/2" holes since 2-3 would hit near identical spots. I can't wait to take it out for a day of plinking. I'm trying to convince my friend to invest in one. It won't take much since he's seen how my 397 performs. I'm already thinking of getting the CB9, just so I have the complete line :-D
Things I would have changed:NOTHING... The quality out of the box is worth twice as much as what you're paying for in this gun. Though some say it's difficult to pump, I have no issues with it. The power dictates that this gun is meant for adults and a child has no business handling it. A misguided shot can prove tragic no matter what caliber the pellet is.
What others should know:These are great guns and they'll truely make you a better marksman. They're very accurate so if you don't hit the target, it's you, not the gun ;-) I suggest domes from RWS or Crosman's Premiers.

Things I liked:Compact size; variable power; been in production for a long time; reliable design leads to good value; walnut stock (bought my rifles before introduction of walnut finished hardwood stock).
Things I would have changed:Your trigger finger muscles will grow, grow, grow. Trigger pull is probably off the
scale. I needed lots of practice with the heavy trigger pull to extract the innate
accuracy of my 392/397 rifles. Reduce trigger pull to 3-4 pounds; return to formed
steel trigger guard.
What others should know:I've been acquiring all types of air rifles for 40 years. I own versions of this rifle
ranging from original St. Louis Benjamin 310/ 312/317/342/347 models to the latest Benjamin-Sheridan renditions. The original Benjamin rifles have much lighter triggers. If you truly like air rifles, you have to own this classic American air rifle. The quality and reliability remain high. They are fun to shoot until you tire of pumping. Replace the rear sight with the factory aperture sight. Shoot this gun until you realize how accurate it is. I like my Benjamin rifles.

Things I liked:Light, short, and potent. It's one of the least expensive +12 FPE rifles you'll find. Quite accurate. I own several Benjamin and Sheridan rifles from the current Crosman manufacture as well as the prior Racine, WI Ben/Sher plant. They're iconic rifles that should be in any collection and are wonderful hunting, pest control, and plinking tools. The ability to vary power by pumping is quite nice. 2 pumps is enough for bouncing cans around the back yard.
Things I would have changed:I wish Crosman would go back to walnut for the stocks rather than the generic "hardwood" that they are stocking the Benjamin's with these days. FIX THE TRIGGER!!! There is an aftermarket sear that makes the factory trigger a dream. The factory trigger is like trying to haul two cinder blocks past each other with your index finger. Dump the factory rear sight the instant you buy this rifle. Install the Williams peep or scope the rifle, but don't rely on the factory rear sight.
What others should know:Pumping does get rather labored past 6 pumps. You get 12-13 FPE out of only 8 pumps, but those are rather stiff pumps, especially at the end. Not for very young or very slight shooters.

Things I liked:This is more accurate than my Gamo (old side cocker) and Beeman ($140 model). It's also quieter, although pumping it 5 times makes up for the quiet shot.
Things I would have changed:Make the pumping quieter.

What others should know:Im 27 years old and my dad bought this rifle for me when i was about 11 years old. To this day, i have had no problems with it. Very reliable and well built. ive challenged all my friends, who have different brands, with their .22 cal pellet rifles and this one has ALOT more knock-down power than the others.

Things I liked:Very accurate, handsome styling, low price for the power

Things I liked:My father bought me this pellet gun when I was 12 years old. I'm 41 and still have it. I have fired this gun thousands of times and it still has the original seals. My rifle is a slightly different model 342. I love this gun and will keep it till I die. What I'm trying to get at is this rilfe will last longer than your child

Things I liked:My father bought me this pellet gun when I was 12 years old. I'm 41 and still have it. I have fired this gun thousands of times and it still has the original seals. My rifle is a slightly different model 342. I love this gun and will keep it till I die. What I'm trying to get at is this rilfe will last longer than your child will probably use it. I have many other rifles and pistol but this will always be my favorite.
Things I would have changed:Nothing
What others should know:High quality, great workmanship, and excellant power
