An ambidextrous CO2 gun that's ideal for target practice and plinking. In Stock
Crosman's 2240 CO2 pistol is available only in .22 caliber, but it's ideal for plinking. When you pick up this gun, you'll have a hard time putting it down. It's accurate and a pleasure to shoot.
The bolt-action reveals a sizeable loading trough, making it easier to load ammo. If you're a lefty, you'll appreciate that this gun is ambidextrous, sporting checkering and a thumbrest on both grip panels. You can use the gun with the open sights or get Crosman's 459MT base to mount a scope or red dot sight.
This is one of those guns that'll be around for many decades, as your entire family will enjoy shooting it.
Click the AMMO link to stock up on pellets. Check the ACCESSORIES link for the 459 MT intermount, rings, scopes, red dots, targets, Pellgunoil (a MUST for CO2 guns) and safety glasses.

Things I liked:Feels good in your hands, it is really accurate for the price, and is a riot to shoot. And there are a world of upgrades for this gun. Things I would have changed:why change it's perfect What others should know:It is kinda loud, but I like loud.

They seem to have sales more often than other online distributors. Their product selection and information available is fantastic. Considering a purchase in $150 range and PA is definitely the place to buy!!

What others should know:great all around gun.. add the 1933 shoulder stock and maybe the williams notched rear sight and its awsome.

The trigger pull is light, unlike nearly all inexpensive air guns. Bolt action. It gets respectable performance out of a CO2 cartridge. Things I would have changed:I'd add a metal trigger shoe (the trigger is exceptionally thin,) a metal breech, a longer barrel and better sights. Fortunately, all of these can be upgraded from Crosman. That's pretty remarkable.
Of course, like everyone else, I'd like more velocity, but it isn't bad for .22 CO2. Make it more quiet. What others should know:Again, it's LOUD. Compared to an air rifle I own which Pyramid Air also gave a 3 sound rating to, this one should easily rate a 4. It definitely will get the attention of neighbors. Maybe a longer barrel would help?

Using open sights included with the pistol I am able to hit cans 15 yards away 10 out of 10. I also use smaller targets like vitamin bottles and this gun is accurate. It also hits hard. The feet per minute figures should not be the deciding factor on purchasing an airgun. This little gun sends those 22 caliber pellets with lots of hitting power. My targets fly into the air! The pellet goes through both sides of a plastic pop bottle! I find the pistol very easy to load. The 22 caliper pellets are easier for my old thick fingers to hold on to. I hope it is easy to load when I get the red dot installed. I almost wish I had not ordered the red dot because it is so accurate with open sights. The fact is cost 1/4 or less than my other pistols makes me not want to talk about it. If I had bought this pistol first, I would have been very mad about the high end springers I own. This is my first Co2 gun. I find the cartridge installs easy and runs to the end with accurate shots. The first couple of shots seem overcharged, but after that I can shoot 40 or more before it quits. When it quits, it quits. I have not had a barrel jam, but you can tell by the sound when it is done. Nice. I also like the safety. It is conventional on use and direction. I have been shooting fire arms for over 50 years and do not like creative safey methods. This one is simple and safe! Things I would have changed:I have read the other posts. Yes there is plastic used on the chambering. That is not a problem for me yet. I have only pushed 100 or sell pellets through it, and metal upper chambers are available for a big price.
Yes the grips are loose. It does not anoy me much because I look at what I got for that amount of money and think wow, what a deal. It does surprise me that crosman corp could not get the molder to work on the grips so they dont move around. If I worked at crosman, that would be fixed.
The third thing I would change is a perhaps. I would like to see standard scope rails. However, the gun is so very accurate with open sights I am asking for something that we should not need. And it might cost more. So there goes the best bargain ever? What others should know:I swear this should be a must purchase. I am not an expert but have only a few moments to plink every week and I find myself looking for the least expensive weapon in my collection. Buy a couple of these pistols and plink away. No Kidding

Things I would have changed:I found the rear peep sight not to my liking. Sight adjustment is a slot in the sheet metal sight and held in place with a tiny screw. I purchased the steel receiver kit and scope mounting rings (also from Pyramid) so I could mount a red dot scope I have. The plastic grips have som movement which over time may work the screws loose, but I am already working on mods for replacing these. What others should know:If you planning to make mods such as longer barrel, I suggest trying to find the model 2250B. It may be hard to find but for just a few more $$ you would already have the longer barrel.

Plus, I ordered .22 pellets for it and received .177 pellets...Give me a break! I guess that since you sent a broken gun that it would not need the right pellets??
DISAPPOINTED MAJORLY.

Things I would have changed:The rear sight - I would change the rear sight to a more traditional 'target type' sight with R/L & U/D 1/4 MOA adjustments - AND, I would offer an 'UPGRADE KIT' to tune the trigger & sear. I would also offer a leather holster for the hunters - What others should know:Out of the blister pack this thing shoots HARD & STRAIGHT! I have used Daisy Flat nosed pellets, Crosman Pointer Premiers & JSB Predators in my 2240 - I have the best performance AND penetration with the JSB Predators! And that is what I have tuned the AG to accomodate - Additionally, this AG has unlimited modding potentials - Thank you Pyramid Air - for affording me an opportunity to share my opinion.

Nothing fancey about this gun but the balance and feel is perfect as a targe pistol.

You can customize thie pistol into something one of a kind. Gotta love those BIG holes the .22 pellets make too!

Things I would have changed:Crosman Quality control is poor. It took one month to get the problems of assembly ironed out (almost). Barrel sight alignment has 1 to 2 degree twist error (2 pistols received). First pistol had the rear sight also twisted 5 degrees for a total of 7 degree miss-alignment; and was returned to Crosman. Second pistol is usable but rear sight notch depth should be reduced to minimize angulation error visualized. What others should know:Noise is comparable to 22 inch barreled 22 rifle firing BB or CB caps. This "pop" makes it a bit rough for backyard shooting in the city. So far no good citizens are complaining about perception of a siege! The Crosman 1377 considerably quieter.

Things I liked:Good balance. Smooth bolt action. Easy loading. Clear sights. Crisp trigger pull. Metal grip frame. The 2240 was accurate with groups inside 1/2 inch at 5 meters, which may be due to my hold. At Pyramyd's price, this is one of life's great values! Things I would have changed:As other reviewers have already pointed out, numerous aftermarket parts are available for this base pistol, from a steel breech and different sights to longer barrels. But one caution is that if you do change the breech, you will need to use a scope or add a different rear sight - which may or may not be compatible with the height of the standard front sight. I plan to leave mine as is for now. What others should know:Testing over a chronograph at 68 degrees F, Crosman HPs gave an average velocity of 440 FPS. RWS Hobby pellets registered an average of 470 FPS. Velocities for both types of pellets were consistent within 3 FPS.

Crosman's Custom Shop can add the upgrades or get them from many other sources, the aftermarket support this gun has is unequaled. Things I would have changed:I bought mine with the Williams notched rear sight and the pin on the muzzle brake was much smaller than the notch when sighting it. I would have liked a closer tolerance. I got used to it but it could be done better. Get it with the longer steel breech so you can mount a scope. What others should know:I bought my first one in .177 liked it so much I'm getting another in .22. Just a sweet little pistol.

Believe me when I say I like metal parts. In this case however the entire pistol is metal except for the breech and grips. I do not believe either of these plastic parts would fail due to normal use. The windage adjustment is a bit tricky but holds fast and has stayed accurate. The pistol is pretty loud so be aware of where your shooting. This pistol is by far worth what it costs.

Can't be beat for value, hard hitting, and getting the job done.
Things I would have changed:Make it with a steel breech to start with, or at least an option when buying. A great trigger would be helpful, but, you can do most of that yourself, especially by changing out the trigger spring. I have mine very light, indeed. What others should know:Get plenty of CO2, and pellets. You are gonna need them. Try as many different pellets you can. I find mine shoots them all very good. It does have some favorites, tho. I'd have to look in my notebook and look at target notes to find the best ones for my guns. I have found one thing, most of the time RWS pellets are superaccurate, and the Diabolo type made by any of the MFG"S are fine and accurate.

I like that no matter what ,wadcutters, H-Points, Predators, Super points and the list goes on , that this pistol fires them well. I'm sick of pellet pistols that can't / won't take various pellets like this gem does. It gives you the advantage of buying MANY types of pellets, thus helping you choose what works best for your likes and dislikes. My Father had me shooting his .22 cal Crosman pistol with him when I was a teen 30 plus years ago. The gun was high quality then , and still is. I wish I knew where his was because I'm sure it's a collectors item even though I wouln't sell it because he is no longer with us. Things I would have changed:Not one single thing. Why pay twice as much for one of the other brands that cost twice as much? I wish Crosman would produce 2-3 more styles of .22 cal pistols. .177 are a dime a dozen . 22 are far more fun to shoot. What others should know:Put one drop of oil on the tip of every 2nd CO2 cartridge as well as one on the exhaust port and your gun will stay in great condition for years. Also use a Beeman brand silicone cloth to wipe your pistol down with after each use.

What others should know:Most complaints people have about this base model is the plastic breech and grips. Guess what? You can order it from Crosman with the extras added for a price. This particular model is just that - the BASE model. The beauty is that it leaves just about everything open to your imagination and modification needs. If you're already thinking of getting a longer barrel (good idea if you want more power and accuracy), look into getting the 2250 model instead. It's basically the same platform but with a longer barrel, giving it more power and better accuracy. Grips are interchangable as well with the 2240 so you can turn it into a pistol if that's what you're after.
I for one don't mind the plastic breech - it does what it's supposed to do. I love using open sights on pistols. If I wanted a steel breech, there's quite a few aftermarket ones available out there, as well as the option to order one from Crosman. She shoots quite well out of box, but barrel to breech fit could be tighter, for better accuracy.
I left this one as is and didn't do any major modifications to it. With the short barrel you won't want to add extra power with customized valves, ports, etc; there'd be lots of Co2 waste and it would snow every time you took a shot. The one thing you do want to look in to is how to properly manage the current Co2 output in a more efficient manner so there's less waste and there's quite a few easy ways to do this.
All in all, this is an accurate, fun and affordable pistol whether or not you're going to make modifications to it. Spend a little time researching and applying better Co2 management applications and you've got yourself a sweet little plinker capable of taking out paper and small pests within a short range.

Things I would have changed:THe front sight can be shifted quite easily, and the platic parts on my gun has all been replaced with parts I have either made or ordered from crosman. What others should know:put a drop of pellgun oil on the end of the CO2 cartrige about every 5th one. It will last forever if you do that.

Nice loud report makes the pistol feel like an authentic .22 match pistol. Very accurate, can easily be counted on to hit what I'm aiming at around 15m. Great fun to shoot, and couldn't be happier with my purchase, especially considering the price and receiving it next day from Pyramid. Things I would have changed:The plastic grips are rather flimsy, grip design is ok but the mounting is weak. Plastic front sight is also not the best, but not a major issue considering the price. Could use a spring to return the bolt, and some sort of magazine would always be a plus... What others should know:Pretty loud piece. Went plinking with it in my yard and it drew some attention due to the noise. CO2 will leak after prolonged storage, at least with mine.

Things I liked:Unbelievably Accurate and powerful for a pistol in this price range. Easily kills rabbits and squirrels. I purchased a steel breach and wood grips from Crosman and the gun looks and feels great. With the steel breach you can mount decent rear sights. You only get about 30 shots per cartridge, but all 30 are accurate. A must

It is cheap and hard to get properly adjusted. Once adjusted, it holds it sighting well. What others should know:It is loud. Sounds like a pistol or rifle shooting .22 shorts. I like the sound. You actually feel like you are shooting a real pistol.

Things I liked:This gun is powerfull and loud, wen I shoot it I know the neighbors can hear it. The 22 cal has a lot of knock down punch campared to the 177 Nicely balanced and looks great too. The gun is really fun to shoot, I keep my 5 acres cleard of snakes and wild chickens, and just the sound of it firing will scatter all vermin. Things

Things I would have changed:Make the co2 easier to access What others should know:I left a co2 tank in the gun at my vacation home, wen I returned 7 months later the tank was stuck inside. I drilled the bottom out and inserted a screw and finally pulled it out, unfortunately it also removed the seal. I wud return it to Crossman for repairs but my vacation home is overseas on a small tropical island and it wud be cheaper to just buy a new one which I will do, just remember to remove the co2 wen not using the gun for a time. For the price this gun cant be beat

This is also the most powerful .22 co2 pellet pistol I have run across, with a longer barrel it is good for small game. Put a pistol scope on it and you will have a great compact air gun. I don't recommend the crosman red dot sight however, it is kind of flimsy, and doesn't sit very well. I am not sure about other red dot sights, but stay away from the crosman one. A scope would work just fine. Accuracy is incredible as well, and even better with a longer barrel. You can hit a quarter sized object from 10-20 yards away if you're a good shot. Things I would have changed:This air gun is LOUD, and I cannot stress that enough. It's about as loud as a .22 rimfire so if you live in an urban or suburban neighborhood you might want to reconsider purchasing. I wish the stock sights were a bit more sturdy, and made from metal, but the for the price it's not a big deal. What others should know:I'd go for this, for the money it is completely worth it.
