Things I liked:I purchased 4 for 4-H shooting sports for the easy cocking effort and great sights.
Things I would have changed:We immediately had issues on 2 of the guns with losing the pellet behind the bolt. If the gun is at all angled with the barrel up when inserting the pellet, it drops back into the rifle and rattles around until you manuever the rifle correctly to drop out. We decided to return them immediately because if we were fighting the guns the beginner shooters on the line would be sure to have constant problems.
Things I liked:The included 5899 sight is what makes this version of the 84X series worth the premium price. The little gun is fairly accurate at 5 meters with BBs, but very accurate for a smoothbore with pellets. It is surprisingly sturdy for a gun that is of almost all plastic construction
Things I would have changed:Include a removable buttpad with spacers to lengthen or shorten the length of pull. I had to jury rig a buttplate extension to get an extra 2 inches LOP. The trigger pull is too hard for accurate shooting without serious concentration. My groups would shrink by half with a lighter trigger pull
What others should know:Excellent training gun or just for fun shooting inside during winter. It is quiet and easy to cock and accurate enough to be interesting.
Things I liked:nice peep sight with fine adjustment; easy for my 10-y-o to cock and shoot; the magnet on the bolt for grabbing bbs works very nicely, and this is a great instructional rifle for youth.
Things I would have changed:plastic; guess I understand they reason they use it, but it would look so nice with a wood stock.
What others should know:this rifle is all-but-all plastic. (it's also all black which doesn't hurt the appearance) The barrel is a rolled sheet steel liner inside plastic. Still, all the working parts feel pretty solid and function is crisp. Trigger pull is strong, but also makes sense for starting out young shooters.
