Description

All gas springs (gas pistons, gas rams) are NOT created equal!

The Nitro Piston 2 has it all over the original Nitro Piston and almost every other gas spring on the market. Most gas springs have a reputation of being hard to cock, but the NP2 put an end to that. According to airgun writer Tom Gaylord, it's the easiest-cocking gas piston he's ever shot.

But Crosman didn't stop the improvements there. They also improved the trigger so it feels like it's been tuned! Imagine that: A factory trigger that breaks crisp and clean. It has a significantly lighter trigger-pull, not one of those so-called "lawyer" triggers that requires Herculean strength to shoot.

As long as they were making improvements, Crosman decided to make a better and more effective integral sound suppression system that really is quiet. You'll notice an immediate difference between the report from your Nitro Piston 2 air rifle and the older Nitro Piston guns or other brands.

So, let's add up what you'll get in this great package: Easy cocking, fantastic trigger and less noise. And, it's assembled in Crosman's plant in Bloomfield, New York. While that's almost everything you could ever want, there's one more thing -- and it's really important: Accuracy. When Tom Gaylord tested a Nitro Piston 2 at an industry show, he commented that he hit everything he aimed at. Isn't that what you want to do? We thought so!

The Benjamin Summit with the Nitro Piston 2 isn't a dream -- it's a dream come true. It's here for you to enjoy, to hit everything you're aiming at, and not strain with each cock and each pull of the trigger. They've put the fun back in airgunning!

Very accurate, very stable to shoot, quietest to shoot of my 5 .22 cal air rifles. Weight is good, and stock fits me nicely. I replaced the trigger spring (which VOIDS warranty!!!) with the M-Carbo Benjamin Trail NP2 Pro Trigger Upgrade Kit, and polished a few surfaces while changing out spring. I replaced scope with Crosman Centerpoint Game Tag Scope 3-12 x 44, which has excellent elevation ladder for distance shooting. I have shot sparrows at 75 yards with this rifle. Currently I shoot JSB EXACT JUMBO DIABOLO 15.89 gr pellets. They seem to fit my needs for small game & pest control. I have had this Summit now for 4 years, shooting daily, and no complaints!

As with all Crosman/Benjamin products, trigger needs to be smoother! The 3 gunstock screws, 2 on each side front of stock, 1 back of trigger guard, come loose after shooting, causing shot's to drift! Good lock or star washers, or a self locking screw (screw with a nylon strip running down side of threads) or even mold locking nuts into stock would be helpful.

I shot this rifle for 4 months before I changed scope. Scope that came with Summit was decent, but not sufficient for long distance (75-100yds). The shrouded barrel baffle system really works! It is very quiet to shoot with the 15.89 pellets I shoot. It is not as sensitive to "hold" as are other rifles I own. It shoots well hand held, or from a rest.
YOU MUST CHECK ALL MOUNTING SCREWS EACH TIME YOU SHOOT!!! Or, like me, use blue Locktite on the 3 stock screws. The only time it drifted from zero was when a screw had come loose.

The size is very good. The weight is great.

The front sling swivel is too small. Needs to be wider. Will my fit a leather target sling.

Weight, feel, power, accuracy cost. I do recommend this air rifle.

Not really sure. It targeted good with the CenterPoint 4X32 scope that came with it, which was clear. I did replace the scope with a CenterPoint 3-9X32, which is one of two extras that I have.

I did a 23 shot test using 12.65 grain H&N Sport/Excite Hollow Point over a chronograph. The average was 849 fps in 57 degree weather, today, 3/19/18. This rifle was shot at a 3 inch circle target, 80 foot distance. I hit that target repeatedly in the center leaving a quarter size hole on the 5/8 inch bullseye, which is no longer visible. I took a shot about every 3 minutes, taking my time. This is my second Summit .22 NP2.. the 1st one, which I bought from Pyramyd Air, was equally accurate as this second one. I monitored the 1st one with my chronograph for 11 months. After recording each shooting session, I noticed that the fps was less than 600 fps, with the RWS Hobby 11.90 and two other pellets that was no heavier than 14.3 grains. I talked to Pyramyd Air. The recommended I talk to Crosman, which I did. I sent the air rifle to Crosman. In 2 weeks they sent me a new one, no shipping charge. I monitor and document all my air rifles fps to detect any velocity losses. Woodys World.

Don’t be curious about my favorite rifle list. Umarex Octanes and this Benjamin Summit NP2 are the ones I shoot the most. But I like all of my air rifles and can shoot them all accurate at 80 feet. Be more concerned about yours. At 68 yrs old, I have been shooting since I was 12, a Red Ryder BB gun. I shoot 3-4 days a week. I pick out 2-3 air rifles in my collection. And have fun. It doesn’t matter which one I am accurate with whichever. I am not one of those shooters that gets a new one and stop shooting the others. Each one has a specific pellet that I have the air rifle and scope sighted in to. I don’t have any fliers. If I miss it is because there was a flinch by me or whatever. I stay with the pellet my air rifle is sighted in for, until I run out of that particular pellet. Then I will sight in for whichever the replacement pellet is. The .177 Beeman dual caliber .177/.22 was my least liked and less accurate air rifle. All my scopes are set on 5X. Woodys World. Good luck.

Also, I have tested the Benjamin Summit NP2 by shooting the H&N Field Target Green 9.56 grain in a 5 shot fps test over a chronograph: 1040, 1021, 1031, 1025, and 1038 fps, averaging 1031 fps in 84 deg weather. Also the Gamo Luxor Cu PBA 9.80 grain tested over chronograph: 983, 978, 981,978, and 980 fps, averaging 980 fps in 84 deg weather. I don’t make a habit shooting PBA/lead free pellets. As a former United States Military personnel I was taught to shoot, but first you must get acclimated to your weapon, you must have complete control over your weapon. Learn and use the Infantry Hold properly. Trigger squeeze and breathing is very important. The biggest thing about obtaining accuracy with an air rifle is properly mounting a scope. Mounting a scope properly for accurate shots can take some people some time. Some will never get it. Most people give up too soon and place the blame on the scope or the rifle, but never themselves. I have not encountered a scope I could not zero in. Also, you don’t need to set your scope on the highest power setting for a 20-30 yard shot. Setting up a scope is more complicated than most people will admit, or will ever admit. Woodys World.

This being the replacement for the one I purchased about a year and a half ago, still no complaints. I read the description and specifications about this air rifle prior to purchasing. When I did buy, I knew what it was and how it was equipped, as with my other 8 breakbarrels, no regrets. They all have their place and I use them without prejudice. They all have dispatched the typical garden pests. I enjoy them all, although there is an ultimate favorite or favorites, for which I have ranked them. Complete confidence when using any one of them. This gun is very accurate and very easy to cock with plenty of power and a smooth shot cycle it's also pretty quiet for its power level another advantage is it's very quiet safety lever fairly lightweight and really nice in cold weather.

I swear that two different companies and designers built this gun from the grip forward this gun is excellent but the butt end of the stock is very flimsy and HollowI filled mine with silicone but now it's a little heavy on the butt end thus the four stars

You like I will want to do something about the butt end of this gun be careful removing the rubber but pad it has two posts 1 seems very flimsy when replacing the butt pad if the post breaks you will be super gluing it together other than this problem I like this gun the combination of quiet powerful and accurate is worth the investment.

As for value I've put over 800 pellets through this gun in warm and cold weather and the gas piston has held up fine. So I'll stick behind my 5 stars. The weight and material of the butt end needed to be addressed and have gotten used to the weight of the silicone. I have not put this through my chronograph only doing so when I find discrepancies in accuracy ( we all do things different ). Buy this and if you're not happy with what you received send it back. Simple! I myself liked it's easy cocking, lightweight and accuracy enough to try to customize the stock.

John: I can't imagine he's deducting a star because he put too much silicone in it... I read it as the deduct was because the butt end was too light, so much so that he had to spend time and money to correct it. Maybe he'll comment to clear this up. Break barrel guns are typically nose heavy as you know, but some stocks are super light which makes it so much much worse. I have the previous model with a stock like that and I hate it, and unfortunately they no longer sell a wood stock for it. They do sell one for this gun but it's so expensive I was able to buy the whole gun for less (on sale).

John Dec 16, 2018

In “Things I would have changed” you changed this from four stars to five stars, in “Value for money.” You have three almost identical reviews before this review where, in the “Value for money” you gave four stars. You mention, in each of them, that you filled the rifle butt with silicone, which now it’s a little heavy in the butt end thus you gave It four stars. Did that make it better or worse, you didn’t say? The only change in all four reviews is that “Value for money” went to five stars. You can’t change this products value by this personal modification. Pyramyd Air invited you to do this review based on as you received it and how it will be purchased by others,, and whether or not you will recommend this product. The value does not change in this modification. Just a point of information. Get a chronograph. Woodys World.

Light and quiet. The stock is solid and fits me well. All around good gun. Initial sight in and shots fired have been in same spot as long as I do my part.

I wish the cheek rest was a tad higher. If Benjamin would start making the NP2 series with adjustable cheek rest, that would be great. I removed the butt plate and filled it with open cell foam pieces. That plastic echo when tapped bothers me. Just a personal thing.

Easy cocking effort. Quiet enough for backyard or in any enclosed area. The trigger is a tad stiff, I think with some lube and repetitive firing it will come into its own. All my other Benjis have and I like it. I picked mine up for just under $160. Combo of a Black Friday deal and using my points. Even with no discount I would have bought it and felt it was worth the money. As with all my guns, before the first shot is fired, I clean the barrel, lube the trigger assembly, and make sure all screws are tightened. Ive had 2 so far that the screws were just a tad loose.

first off the Weaver scope mounting rail was canted off to one side,,mounting a scope was a trial and error nightmare,,ended up with a red dot sight that would adjust to make up for the bad rail installation at the factory,,should have sent it back but once the box is trashed and living way out i the sticks it makes returns a all day fiasco,so I delt with it,, red dot with green too worked out pretty good, liked the green,, easy to see in daylight and kinda resembled a laser when i looked through it but scopes were not a option

better quality control at the factory,, pa should open product boxes like air guns,, and at least do a visual and operate the real hi ticket items at least once,, high dollar ,,pcps should be aired up to a shooting psi and leave it at a predetermined air pressure like1500 psi on all guns and check it again when some one buys it,,if its 1500psi just before shipment then it dont leak which some do ,, i got one,, marauder pistol ,, its leaked air from day one ,,so i air it up and shoot it down then re air ,, put it up with 2000 psi or some where close and in two or less days its empty probably 30 hours ,, i did not return it as i can use it on a as of today use basis and i have never returned any thing in my whole life ether I fixed it or sold it at a loss or just plain give it away and chalked it up as a do not remake this mistake

better quality air guns give you less grief and more smiles,, every cheap one has let me down for one reason or another and never lasted ,, maybe im to hard on them ,

Todd Feb 29, 2020

Crosman sometimes offers to send you a replacement of the defective part if you ask. Saves you both $ because shipping expensive, and a hassle. So I'd send them a pix of the rail and see what they say. You have to take the gun apart to fix it but it would be worth it.
