Description

Gamo states that the symmetrical 6-bladed head increases effectiveness, the steel core delivers weight balance and improved accuracy, and the hollow skirt stabilizes the pellet.

This special pellet was designed with only one objective: Hunting. The special head will incisively deliver a punch to your target. Rats, mice, rabbits and squirrels -- you've been warned!

Looks good.

It should have a standard design such as pointed or domed head, I don't think the fins leading up to the point allows effectiveness or does anything for it, they may work against what the rifling has done once it leaves the muzzle. I don't know, just speculating. As PBA pellets go, was not accurate when used in a break-barrel with high velocity. Don't know if I would buy this again.

I shot this pellet out of four different air rifles when conducting this review. The pellet was shot at a 12"x18" box with a 2" Birchwood-Casey stick on target that was 70' feet away. The temperature was 55 degrees. The Ruger Air Magnum averaged 1444 fps with a high of 1458 fps and a low of 1419 fps. The Gamo Bi Cat 1250 averaged 1100 fps with a high of 1138 fps and a low of 1066 fps. The Gamo Hunter "220" averaged 1005 fps with a high of 1010 fps and a low of 994 fps. The Beeman RS2 Silver Kodiak averaged 1079 fps with a high of 1111 fps and a low of 1063 fps. The Crosman Powermaster 66 multi-pump averaged 726 fps with a high of 727 fps and a low of 725 fps (three shot group due to running out of this pellet). I find that PBA pellets enhance the multi-pump air rifles impressively. All shots with all air rifles were shot a Competition Electronics Digital Prochrono. All of my review shots are recorded in a logbook by date, temperature, air rifles used, pellet type and grain weight.

William, it is always preferable to carry a firearm for self defense but there are times and places that is impossible and/or illegal but carrying an airgun is legal (check local laws). I believe Alan may simply be choosing not to go completely unarmed. An air pistol that produces 450 FPS with an 8 grain pellet is better than nothing is (I believe) all he's saying.

Alan: That you have the choice of carrying a pellet pistol or a Glock 9 mm semi automatic pistol for self defense, and have chosen the pellet pistol over the Glock is one of the most foolish things that I have ever heard a man say that he would do! You must not value your life very much? We're talking about saving your life, not proving a point!

B/S on the carry comment.

The main reason I did purchase this pellet and all other lightweight PBA,s was for my (2) multi-pump air rifles. I conducted tests with higher velocity tests was to see if the velocity of those air rifles advertised fps could be reached. A lot of shooters don't have chronographs and are curious of velocity levels reached in fps with certain rifles. I am not new to shooting BB and pellet and have been shooting these rifles since 1963, starting with the single pump Red Rider BB rifle.

I would recommend you test the pellet at a slower speed so that the sonic wave cannot overtake the pellet mid flight !!! shooting above mach 1 is only ok if the pellet is still going above mach1 when it reaches the target.. more important is information on pellet size and consistency. changes in skirt diameter will affect accuracy... so for a good test we need to know the figures, ie 100 pellets, 10 dia 4.5 + 0.025 23 4.5 + 0.03 mm etc etc The fact that the pellet improved the accuracy in your crossman powermaster 66 at just 726 fps proves my point about sub mach 1.!!!

I carry a GAMO PT80 with 8 spare (loaded) magazines and 2 spare C02 cylinder in a shoulder holster for self defense. I presently have the magazines loaded with GAMO BlueFlame Pellets. Based on your review, I order a tin of the Airstar pellets and will give them a try into a chilled block of modeling clay. I also ordered a SIG Sauer P250 with 5 spare magazines to augment my PT80. With the sophistication of these pistols, magazine capacity, and lethal pellets, I no longer feel compelled to carry my GLOCK 9mm.

Outstanding pellet. Allowed my sun the edge he needed to hunt with his 1077. Vary accurate, groups tight are at 1" @ 25ft which are impressive for me 11year old. In my gamo penetration is deep, which is great on shells.

There is difference in pellet consistence, some fit rather tight and some will not stay in pellet holder.
