Description

An American classic gets an update with the synthetic-stocked Benjamin 392S/397S  multi-pump pneumatic Air rifle series.

Although it's been a part of the Benjamin air-rifle lineup for decades, the company has continued adding improvements like a swelling in the forearm to make it easier to pump and a fully adjustable rear sight, for example. Its sleek, Monte Carlo style stock has been reintroduced in a synthetic option that's durable and all-weather rated for years of reliable accuracy.

The 392S/397S series features a rifled brass barrel painted black. It's a bolt-action air rifle with which the shooter may control the muzzle velocity depending on the number of pumps. And, although these guns are scopeable, the B272 intermount is required to do so.

Ideal for everything from small-game hunting and pesting, to plinking and target practice, the Benjamin 392S/397S are accurate, powerful, reliable shooters that are suitable for a variety of tasks and they're built to last and last.

The fact it is a pellet rifle.

Comb on stock is too high.

If only Crosman could learn to build a rifle without crooked sights...

The polymer stock is awesome, very heavy duty, thick, no flex noted when pumping, yet still light weight. The comb on the buttstock is perfect for me because I like to use an optic and the optic mount, (sold separately), sits a little high. I have an older Benjamin 392 with the wood stock and had to get a Bradley cheek rest to bring up the comb height. I paired both my air rifles with a Vortex red dot sight and accuracy is spot on with tight groups at 20 yards with 5 pumps, using Crosman Premier domed ultra magnum 10.5 gr. pellets. It's a little harder to pump after 4 pumps with 5 being as far as I can go until it gets broke in. I love how the pump arm meets up flush with the stock, only drawback is it can pinch your hand if you're not careful. My old 392 has a space between the pump arm and stock which keeps you from pinching your hand, although I would not change the new style because it looks better.

No changes needed. Great design.

Break barrel rifles are easier to cock and load but shooting this rifle is smoother and you can adjust the power by the amount of pumps. 5 stars.

Extremely durable and beefy build. Accuracy is on point. Feels great in hand and on the shoulder. Great as a plinker or survival gun.

The sights or make the comb adjustable. I personally don't have an issue getting a sight picture as I guess I have a long face that isn't hindered by the high comb, but the height of that comb is going to be a problem for some people. The front post sight is quite high and will also be a problem for some people. As I said, I haven't had any issues myself, but I can absolutely see where this could be a problem for others.

Get ready for a workout as this one is an absolute BEAST to pump. Those with bad shoulders may want try a few different methods or just avoid this altogether. I still love this gun even if it tears up my shoulder to pump it LOL.

got the 22, nice solid feel. rubber buttstock is nonslip, pumps easy, smooth bolt, easy loading, good trigger, hits pretty hard, soup can accurate @30yards with front blade and added peep

THE STOCK COMB SUCKS!!! it is WAY too high, what an engineering blunder! cannot line up factory sights unless you have an eyeball growing out of your cheek! also maybe add a damper to mitigate loud slap sound while pumping. OFFER IT IN WOODEN STOCK!

i added the Williams peep sight. now it shoots good, but it will shoot great with a lower comb, i will sand that down once its out of warranty. the peep sight is a must. i do not intend to scope it.

i have learned to shoot it (with an unorthodox hold).its very accurate, but the comb is a killjoy. not so welcoming as the same action with the wood stock design. i dont mind polymer. just give us irons shooters options. please listen to your customers!

This has been my favorite air rifle since I was a kid mine's very accurate and I haven't really don't have any complaints at all

I bought mine and 22 cow and it hits about 800 fps I wish they would make a version that had a little bit more power to it

For what it cost it's a fantastic value and I highly recommend this.

This is a design that has been around for decades and is well known for its ruggedness and reliability. It was pretty accurate with Crosman domed pellets.

The genius who designed the new stock for this rifle ought to be fired! Why would you ever put a comb on a stock that is so high that one is forced to use a scope, but there is no place to mount a scope without buying an expensive and potentially damage-inducing intermount? In order to see the sights and get that accuracy with Crosman domes I had to leave the rifle in a rest and crouch down with my cheek behind the end of the stock. There is obviously no way I could carry this thing in the field if I have to hold it like that.

Why buy this when a Crosman 362 has similar power, pumps more easily, and costs half as much? Oh, it also has sights you can use!

@Brendan- I own one of these rifles in .177 Caliber. It is the Wooden Stock version of this rifle. The Comb on that stock is rather high too. I will give you this as a hint, the rifle performs better with the Williams Peep Sight installed in the rear. The older rifles came with a set of Tip-Off Scope Mounts, designed for the rifle by Benjamin. They were OK, but you had to use Blue Lock-Tight on the mount screws in order to maintain Zero with your scope. I do not know if these new Rifles come with the Scope Mounts, but if they do, you will not damage the barrel as they are designed to pinch the pump barrel which is steel, (or used to be). But before you give up, purchase the Williams Peep Sight and install it per the instructions. One of the mounting screws will need to be slightly filed off by one thread depth so it will not interfere with the action of the bolt. Set your sight how you want it, and it will be laser accurate. Good Luck.

I love my trusty 392s, but I'm using it a lot less nowadays: the Crosman 362 turned out to be a tempting alternative. Pumping it up is a cinch in comparison and it needs only 8 pumps for full power, not 10. It's not quite as hard-hitting as the Benjamin, so it's great for target shooting, but I prefer the 392s sights by a wide margin; even with the awful comb, it's still my go-to choice for power and fine accuracy. Adjusting the 392s windage (off by just a hair on delivery) was tricky, but once done, it was SPOT on, and I'm partial to notch & blade sights anyway. I still taught myself to use the aperture sight config of my 362, but turned it back around to the 'standard' setup eventually. It's inexpensive too, so I've been thinking of buying another and adding a Clevercraft mount and a scope. The Benjamin IS the better of the two, but the Crosman carbine is pretty sweet too. I like both. :-)

Great ergonomics wide pump arm long good leverage easy on hands very tight provides for excellent offhand hold for adult male. 703 avg feet per second with GTO accuracy scary good in such a tough truck rifle, BAKER scope mount 3x9x42 compact on offset set back utg mount have several sheridan's this 392 worthy successer.

All c models or 392s from the very first one made provision for Williams peep, why this rifle has such a tall front post to fit a William's perfectly. You want a good iron sight pumper by the 362 want a great iron sight rifle buy a 392 and add the proprietary williams sight.

Trigger better than previous 392 cmodels ive shot rifle is a legend for a reason, durability, reliability, accuracy, now maybe I just got lucky but this 2022 392s is one heck of a rifle that doesnt need a LOT more to make it useful You will need sights but how many airguns DONT and how many 60 year old airguns shot 10,000s of times still work good with the original parts plus some orings

Very accurate and powerful

I was going bto return this gun . Very poor design on rear stock. I was unable to use mechanic sights because the stock was hitting my cheek bone. I spent 70.00 more dollars on a scope and mounts . After that I decided to keep it. Again very accurate and powerful.

Plan on getting a scope and mounts

The gun is not shootable with this stock. The comb is so high you cannot line up the sights. Its impossible to shoot.

wood stock with fitted comb so you can shoot it

its a shame. i like the gun but someone should check these things before going to market. Such a simple thing to overlook

i have learned to shoot it, and it is very hard hitting and accurate. i added the rear peep sight. i totally agree with your assessment. once its out of warranty, im going to sand the stock
