If you shoot a lightweight pellet so its velocity exceeds the speed of sound, it could result in your pellet breaking the sound barrier and the gun being louder than expected! The speed of sound depends on humidity, temperature and altitude. Generally speaking, it's between 1,060 fps and 1,115 fps.

Here are the benefits of the Nitro Piston:
  • Smoother cocking
  • Smoother shooting
  • No spring torque
  • No spring fatigue, even if you leave it cocked for hours
  • Functions perfectly in cold weather
  • Lasts longer than a metal spring

Things I liked:

Nice AR15 replica, has sling attachments. Good weight for all the composite and plastic used, I like that it shoots best with a firm hold against the shoulder.

Things I would have changed:

The supplied scope developed a loose recticle after 100 shots, so the scope went to the trash bin. I would have preferred it equipped with a front sight and removable carry handle attached to the rail.

What others should know:

Plan on replacing the scope and weaver mount rings, the ones supplied with the MTR77 will not last. The plastic faux ammo clip always rattles and is irritating, I may put a turn or two of black duct tape around it to stop the plastic-on-plastic rattle. The shoulder stock is short, plan on mounting your scope as far forward as you can to get reasonable eye relief.

Things I liked:

everything, wanted one of these since i was little, im a vietnam baby.

Things I would have changed:

open shights in stead of scope. grandpa siad scopes are for cheaters who dont know how to shoot.

What others should know:

you must be able to lift at least 100 pounds or you will be to weak too cock this gun not for girly boys. sounds like a 22 or 25 when shooting lead free pellets(awesome)

Things I liked:

I've had this rifle for a couple years now and like it so much I decided to leave some positive feedback... Its accurate and built like a tank..very reliable.

Things I would have changed:

Nothing... obviously the scope is just to get you started, you're paying for the rifle, not the scope.. Probably should come with carry handle and sights.

What others should know:

Extremely powerful break barrel rifle...NOT FOR KIDS!! REQUIRES FAIR AMOUNT OF STRENGTH TO COCK THE NITRO PISTON...

  • Leslie from Canada asked:

I am in Canada any idea where can you get the carry handle and the open sites. Also if you get a detuned version can you just not modify it to get the upgraded velocity?

    • Chevota from USA answered:

Yes you can bump the velocity a good chunk by "fixing" it which isn't too hard, but with that stubby barrel it'll never see full power. Even the test PA did showed a massive power loss, so if you were ok with a regular full length barrel (like from a Venom or Vantage) you could get ~50% more power than PA did. It wouldn't look right but if you put a tube ~2"x 8" over the barrel it would look like a suppressor :) Here's the link to the parts list of the open sight model, then order said #'s from The Gravel Agency in Canada: https://tinyurl.com/y9xm4br2

    • Tyler Patner from USA answered:

If they were available, it would be from Crosman. Though, because it's a picatinny rail, I am sure you could find a legit AR sight set that would work.

  • Chris from USA asked:

Chris again. Can this piece be used for backyard plinking at say, 50-90 feet. What type of a backboard should I use to prevent pellets from going into our composite yard fence? Thanks alot. Used the real thing, a customized AR-10 version in competitive combat shooting. Love this design. Mr. Stoner was a genius. Armalite made a beautiful AR10.

    • Chevota from USA answered:

I use a large towel rolled up like a sleeping bag to catch pellets. This gun has a short barrel so it'll be much harder to cock than the other models, like Venom, Trail etc. Like takes the fun out target shooting hard.

  • Chris from USA asked:

other sites state that any break barrel air rifles should never use a scope as the barrel becomes loose and you will never get true accuracy. Seems logical to me. I guess it depends upon the construction and quality of the build. Think of it. Time after time breaking the barrel and maybe cocking it on an angle may wear it down. Thoughts please?

    • Chevota from USA answered:

It's loose from day one, but only because it's made in china for cheap. Quality brands don't really have that issue and are not enough of factor that you'd notice. The accuracy of this and similar chinese guns will be mostly other issues, but the looseness will contribute.
