Story Time!
It’s story time! This isn’t about The Bow Bully telling a story and the readers, that’s you, going about your day and leaving me, The Bow Bully, without feedback. I’ll tell a story and I want to know your opinion on the situation. So be ready to give your two or ten cents in the comments below.
In this story there are two ladies, two compound bows, and a rifle. We’ll call the first lady, Kathrine and the second, Judy. These ladies met on a PSE Archery forum, and have come to find out they live directly through the woods from one another. They both have the PSE Drive NXT Compound Bow and one has a rifle. Which one do you think that is? You’ll find out soon enough, if you keep reading that is.
A Higher Harvest Rate
Kathrine has a honey hole she loves to hunt. She’s taken deer, hogs, coyotes, turkeys and even a bobcat in this same spot. The set is perfect for two hunters and she knows her friend Judy has had the worst luck when it comes to hunting. They both agree amongst themselves, Judy needs to hunt with someone that has a higher harvest rate so she can learn.
Kathrine says in her deep, take-charge voice, “Hey now there Judy, why don’t you go hunting with me in my honey hole and let me show you how it’s done?”
Judy humbly answers, “Oh yeah, thanks Kat! I would love to learn from an expert hunter like you!”
Kat Knowing What She’s Doing
That’s exactly what they did! On their way in, Judy noticed Kat had a rifle case on her back. She didn’t want to ask too many questions because she wanted to get invited back. She chalked it up to Kat knowing what she’s doing.
The ladies follow the course to the spot and get settled in with their gear. They both brought their PSE Drive NXT Compound Bow the only difference was Kat’s draw weight was set at 45 lbs. and Judy’s at 55. Interesting right? As they reach for their arrows they notice they are shooting the same brand but the arrows are different colors. Kat knew what that meant, she had the Gold Tip Hunter XT 500, while Judy had the Gold Tip Hunter XT 340 arrows.
Kathrine says in her now grovely, low tone voice, “What is your draw weight set at there Judy?”
“It’s set at 55 lbs, why should it be set higher than that?” Judy asks.
Kathrine clears her throat from secret embarrassment and squeezes out, “Oh no, that’ll do, that’ll do.”
Game Time!
The ladies are both set up and ready for game time! They’re specifically after deer but aren’t against a hog turning up either. Kat’s hat drifts down over her face and she begins to snore, Judy tries to follow suit because she guesses this is what the pros do. She just couldn’t fall asleep! Her senses were on overdrive and with every little noise she was readying herself for the optimal shot opportunity.
As she struggles against feeling like a failure because she can’t seem to relax enough to saw logs with her good ol pal Kat, she sees a black ear flicker, then a tail swoosh in circles. She carefully nudges Kat like a gentle mother waking her child, hoping for a smile and not a growl.
Much to her surprise Kat awoke quietly and whispered “This one’s yours girl, take it!”
With her arrow knocked, Judy attached her T.R.U. Ball Trident Flex 3 Finger Release to the D loop, placed her sight pin perfectly on the front shoulder of the black hog, and released. Judy’s heart was pumping so fast, it was hard to remember what direction the hog ran. While hoping it was a good shot, they waited.
The ladies’ high five, while giving each other a great big smile almost promising success. Judy is pretty confident she made a great shot and they’ll be able to recover her game.
Formerly Known As Nine
Before her heart is almost back to normal, the intended target shows up, the buck! Mr. Nine, I don’t know why people name their deer, especially with numbers, they won’t be the same next year! What are you going to call him then, Ten, formerly known as Nine?

This one is for Kat, she attaches her T.R.U. Ball X-Tension Buckle Strap to the D Loop, she comes to a full draw and can’t seem to keep the sight picture on Mr. Nine because she is shaking so badly, she carelessly squeezes the trigger and misses!
Much to Judy’s surprise, Kat whips out the rifle and shoots Mr. Nine on the run! Judy was in such disbelief, she wasn’t even looking at the deer, she was looking at Kat waiting for an explanation!
What Would You Do?
What do you think Judy’s reaction was when Kat asked her to take photos of her with her PSE Drive NXT Compound Bow and her harvest? How would you respond to this if you were Judy? Are you a hunter like Kat?
There are highs and lows with any kind of hunting, the most important aspect of hunting is honesty. When lies are being told, false hope may be given to people like Judy who thought Kat was some expert bow huntress! If you’re going to have a backup rifle, take a photo of the harvest with the actual weapon used, don’t be that big of a story teller!
