Don’t Answer Yet!
If you were to buy a or happen upon, (when does that ever happen?), a BearX Desire RD Pistol Crossbow, what would you use it for? No, I don’t expect an answer from you yet because you know nothing about it, we can fix that if you want to! Go ahead, read on!

Just A Thought
Read on because this one might interest you. The BearX Desire RD Pistol Crossbow fits that entire description but, some people like complicated things, if that’s you well, this may be a waste of your time. You could think of those you may be able to share this information with and read on anyways, just a thought.
This crossbow pistol is a small and simple, meaning easy to operate and maintain, recurve style crossbow. It has the traditional curved limbs without cams, a lot like the original crossbows some thousand years ago, at least that’s what history says. Total uncocked length from axle to axle is 17 inches and it only weighs 1.9 pounds. Perfect size for a raccoon to shoot!
The draw weight is an easy 60 pounds, so even though it comes with just three bolts, you can shoot it a lot more than that. Hence why should check out some replacement bolts like a twelve pack of the BearX Desire Crossbow bolts. They’re called mini crossbow bolts because they’re intended to be used in a mini crossbow (I thought I’d point that out, in case you didn’t catch that).
Read The Instructions
When you open this guy up, (unless that is, you happened upon it and it’s already assembled), there may be some assembly required. It may depend on where you get it from, like happening upon it, it may be ready to go. In some cases it’s simple, (there’s that word again!), the string needs to be installed and you’re done. I’m not going to tell you how because you should read the instructions, if you have none, then I’ll help.
After you’ve done that, and mounted the included red dot sight, use the self-cocking arm, no it doesn’t do it all by itself, but it requires no external equipment. So all by itself and a little help from you, pull the self cocking arm down until it’s fully cocked. I gave you instruction, oops, I slipped. Don’t shoot it yet, you’re missing a couple things.
- Where’s your target?
- Where’s your projectile/bolt?
- Are you ready for this?
Because the BearX only gets 175 FPS, (what did you expect from this mini crossbow?) you don’t need a heavy duty 500 FPS archery target, the simple Steam Bow Arrow Target is inexpensive, small, and will do the trick!
Are You Ready For This?
Before loading your bolt onto the rail, be sure the business end is pointed at the target, now it’s safe to load the bolt, finally you can take aim and release! Are you ready for this? If your plan is to hunt or pest with the BearX Desire, I would encourage or strongly suggest, nah, I’ll just tell you, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
If you’re planning to have fun and plink, do exactly that, that’s what this was made for. Set up some fun targets in front of your archery target like fruit or styrofoam shapes, invite friends and family over and host some friendly competitions. But if you’ll be competing, I’ll tell you again…PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!
After you’ve read this, do you now know what you would use this for? I hope so that was the point of me writing this blog in the first place!
TBB,
Haven’t checked the specs on the BearX but I don’t think they are legal here in Canada.
This quote is from the regulations…
“Crossbows that can be aimed and fired with one hand and crossbows with an overall length of 50 cm (19.7 inches) or less are prohibited.”
Cheers!
Hank
Hank,
That’s good information to know, a good reminder for all of us to check the laws in your place of residence/hunting.
Thanks for the reminder!
