In case you’re wondering what the best way to store your bow is, let’s talk about it.
Case or No Case
Whether you own something like the Ravin R10X or the Ten Point Titan M1 Crossbow you have options. Your first option is to go caseless. You can find a place in your home, shed, truck or smart car and store it there. If you’ll be hanging your bow, do it a favor and do not hang it by the string. Let me run some things by you that are extremely important for you to consider because I really do care.
Seriously consider this, it’s going to require you to think long term. I get it, sometimes it’s hard to think past now, this is important, you can do it! I’ll help you out a bit, what track record do you have up until now? If you’ve lacked the gumption or motivation, you may want to consider investing in a case. Going caseless will require more frequent maintenance. It’s okay, you can be honest, we all hate the word maintenance, or is it just me?
The type of maintenance necessary depends on your climate. Things like humidity, dry air, and dust can cause your equipment to deteriorate more rapidly if it’s left exposed. Not to mention the possible carelessness of people.
In humid climates, you’ll need to protect the bows from rust. In dry climates if the string isn’t kept waxed it can deteriorate and begin to come apart.
Possibly just possibly the most annoying element; dust, small particles of dirt bound together that have a tendency to stick to everything you prefer it not to. It can clog up the functioning parts or your bow and cause it to malfunction, frequent cleaning will be required.
Finally, there’s the possibility of it being knocked around, dropped, stepped on or chewed up by your new puppy. That leads to the next question.
Soft or Hard?
Now that you’ve decided a case would be better for you and your bow, there’s yet another couple options, soft like the Ravin Soft Case or hard like the Ravin Hard Case?
A soft case will offer storage for extra equipment and some protection from humidity, dry air and most certainly dust. It is a soft case so there is a possibility of careless feet or objects knocking it around. Though the soft case is a better choice than caseless, though it doesn’t protect your equipment from everything.
With a hard case you get the safe storage of your bow as well as arrows and other equipment keeping it safe from all the elements above, even from big clumsy feet, dropsy little hands and again your new puppy.
Though a hard case offers more protection, it is going to require a larger space in whatever place you decide to store it in. If it truly will be hanging out in a smart car, you may have to make some sacrifices, room for groceries or your Plano Spire Compact Crossbow Case.
The undeniable decision maker is the cost. Opting for a case will require more from your wallet, but opting to go caseless will require more diligence to perform the required maintenance from you, the Archer. Don’t get me wrong caseless or a case, maintenance will still be required, just not as often. Can your equipment count on you to care for it? The answer to that question should help you decide what kind of protection will be profitable for you and your bow.
