I’m back to writing the blog, though I do have three guest blogs that are yet to be published. But today I wanted to write one myself, and what a report it is! Stay tuned for a super deal on a classic air rifle!
Surplus Harley Davidsons
When I was a kid in the 1950s, World War II had ended a decade before and surplus government equipment was a hot item. I remember when hundreds of crates of Harley Davidson motorcycles were discovered in a government warehouse in the United Kingdom. The bikes were brand new and all that had to be done after taking them out of the crate was to set them up. It might take 4 to 8 hours for everything, And for $450, as I remember, you got a brand new Harley WLA motorcycle. The Brits didn’t want them sold in the UK because they would hurt their domestic motorcycle manufacturers, so they footed the transport bill to New York where an enterprising buyer bought the whole lot.
A 1942 Harley Davidson WLA. Not a bad buy for $450.
The buyer sold all the motorcycles through newspaper classified ads on the east coast of the country. It took less than a year to sell an estimated 500 cycles.
Surplus Crosman 160s
Then there was a time in the 1980s when the U.S. Air Force discovered hundreds of Crosman 160 pellet rifles they had ordered specifically for safe target practice. Apparently that program never materialized because all of these rifles were brand new in the box. When these were found the Air Force dumped them for $75. I purchased one to help a local airgun dealer meet the government’s 25-rifle minimum purchase. And I reported on one of these back in 2012.
The cool thing about the Air Force 160s was they came with leather slings and peep sights. They were a fantastic bargain, but they sold out within just a few months of discovery.
And now, for today’s hot deal!
Surplus FWB 124s
A small cache of FWB 124 rifles was discovered about a week ago in a European warehouse. They were supposed to be shipped to Spain in 2001, but the shipment was stalled when customs discovered they were American-spec rifles. Spain has a power limit for .177 caliber pellet rifles that these could possibly exceed, so they were frozen in the warehouse, and then a dock worker’s strike caused them ultimately to be forgotten.
The cache
According to my sources there are 79 rifles in this cache. Some are the Deluxe model (with checkered pistol grips and sling swivels) and some are the standard or Sport model. Buyers don’t have a choice which model they will get.
The cost
There are also some rifles in their factory boxes with manuals, while other rifles come without boxes. Again there is no choice. It’s all first come-first served. The price is a flat 120 Euro, which is about $129.61 when this is published, plus shipping. Shipping to the U.S should be about $40.
Hurry!
If you want one, here is the email address to place your order:

My advice is to hurry, as these won’t last long at this price.
B.B.,
Glad you are back to writing the blog; no knock on Ian’s work while you were in a down status for sure.
Question: Are those FWB 124 Manuals in Spanish or maybe English, French, and German too?
shootski
shootski,
Probably.
BB
Yeah, you almost got me.
I was reading this very early in the morning and not quite awake.
I was thinking I’ve never owned a 124 a good chance to get one and see what it’s all about and then I saw the last part of the email address and my IT kicked in.
And realized it’s April 1.
You almost got me
Ian
Ian,
To quote Maxwell Smart, “Missed it by that much!” 😉
BB
Same here! He was reeling us in so gently, we didn’t know we were even hooked. Y’know, I was reading the parts about the surplus motorcycles (plausible) and the Crosman 160s (I knew from earlier reports on this blog that part was true), and I was thinking, maybe B.B. forgot it’s April Fools Day…until I read the email address at the end. DU’OH!
Nice hearing from you Tom. Happy April 1st to you too.
Shootski,
Personally, I don’t care if they’re printed Absurdistanian, I am going to order two rifles, specifically for snipe hunting excursions in Moosylvania this spring!
Have a great time, BB, on this great time of year!!
Bill
Do get the bayonet on the BM8 to fend off the Jackalopes while you are Snipe hunting.
Tom,
You can really dish them out! You might even be able to sell them to a Nigerian prince!
Siraniko
Siraniko,
Ha, ha. How did you know I was the only recipient of the Nigerian prince’s estate? 😉
BB
Wait a minute! I thought I was?!
BB,
Hahaha! Happy April Fools’ Day!
Glad to see you back, man! 🙂
Blessings to you,
dave
Dad blame it . . . and I was about to get out my credit card. When it comes to springers, I’m just an old fool. Well, my deal will come in one day. Orv.
Doc, I have a deal for you! A springer that cocks with one finger, has no vibration, puts out 100 ft-lbs. And can keep any pellet to under 1 inch at 100 yards with the same point of impact. If you are interested, send me your address on the back of a $100 bill, and I’ll give you all the details. ;o)
Thanks, BB!
I ordered two. They said they’ll send them to the States through Italian eBay, through their Friends and Family i Fazooli, which is for only around $30. after currency conversion. Gee, I hope they don’t get stuck in our customs!
Mike
I want nothing less than Elbonian specifications for my Euro airguns.
Glad you are feeling better.
-Yogi
Everyone,
Thanks for all the well wishes. Yes, I am feeling better. I thank the Lord and also Pyramyd AIR, who gave me all last week off. I did a lot of sleeping.
Sadly, my three hernias mean no more motorcycling — ever. So my Street Bob has to go away.
Oh, well. More time to shoot airguns, I guess. 🙂
BB
B.B., so glad you are on the mend. So are the kidney stones removed?
I’m wondering if that Magnum Gamo springer caused or aggravated your hernias.
Thanks for the great report. Honestly, I wanted to believe it. I was getting ready to be the guy that bought the whole lot of motorcycles, and try to buy the whole lot of rifles. Well, I have my FWB 124, so I will need to be content.
Roamin,
Not yet. It’s just one stone and it’s 29mm by 21mm, so it’s going to take several operations and many more tests. Figure it will be gone by the end of July. Then there are the three hernias to contend with. It’s going to be a long summer for BB.
BB
B.B.,
Ouch. You know someone has it genuinely rough when you ask them what their plans for summer are, and they answer, “Surgery.”
Heal quickly, my friend.
Michael
RG,
You do realize we are going to want you to write about your “new” FWB124 setup?
Of course. This may wind up being an airgun bucket list series.
I recently got a Diana 36 and a Crosman 160 is in the works, too. No joke, they were deals too good to pass up.
RG,
I remember you mentioning them before.
The Diana 36 was inspired by your 34 acquisition. The 160 is my second one. The first one didn’t have the peep sight. I also have a Crosman Model 70 on the way. I’m intrigued by that model. I have a Winchester Model 70 Featherlight rifle chambered in .270 Win. I have to stop soon.
But…still holding out for a Winchester 427 and 450 to compete the collection of Vintage Winchesters and a Crosman 600 at a bargain price (patience grasshopper). Although I would be glad to adopt the Diana 50 too. And then I think I’ll take a break for a while to regroup, rehab what I have, and report back to the readership.
Glad to see you are feeling better and have a sense of humor! Looking forward to your reports. With the nice spring weather comes more motorcycles on the roads. We saw an accident that involved a motorcycle and had just happened on Saturday when we were heading home from the store. The first responders were there so we kept moving. But, everyone please stay on the alert and watch out for motorcycles as you are driving.
I was one of those out there Saturday. What a beautiful day it was here. Fortunately, I was able to get home in one piece.
I will take one of those Harleys, please. If someone was to send one of those FWB124s to live at RRHFWA, I would greatly appreciate it.
I am glad to hear/see you are back at it again. I am really glad you were able to get some well deserved rest also.
Thanks to Faulty Manuel and Roamin Greco, I was able to set the Diana 34 up the same way as I did my grandson’s HW30S. It is one awesome plinker right now. There was quite a hoard of feral soda cans around here. Not anymore. I guess I will have to tell you guys a little something about it now.
Glad to hear you are better, and that better not be another April Fool prank story! 😉 Ian capably held the fort during your troubles, no doubt providing much needed peace of mind during your convalescence.
The hernia part of the story, no good to hear; assume permanent repair is not possible? Hate you have to give up ‘clycling – on the other hand, FM always worries about his motorcycle-loving friends being he lost one of his best ones in a riding accident and, as is the case most of the time, he was not at fault. Too many distracted “drivers” out there these days.
Hope those hernias don’t put a crimp on your airgun enjoyment; keeping you on that prayer list in hopes of more healing to come.
As for those FWBs, will the seller take payment in Deutschmark? Or Spanish pesetas?
Rubles.
Are you putin me on, RR?
Now, why would I do that?
FM
Not at the moment,,, he’s biden his time, tho.
Ed
We should not be Russian to conclusions.
Basil ,
I believe they are asking for Pangean Stones.

Best wishes for a complete recovery, Tom. I always look forward to today’s entry. Always remember…Getting old ain’t for sissies.
BB
Good to know you are at least some better. Sorry you have to part with the bike but you can swap it for a crated 160, a crated Harley and a 124. Also you get a crated brand new Willy’s army jeep for $100 found in a warehouse which only needs replacement tires. You get all of these plus many more airguns. But wait there is more, a climate controlled warehouse suitable for storing airguns and large enough for 50 yard tests can now be printed on a computer and installed for only $499.99 but you have to order it today. If you order within the next 30 minutes we’ll send two warehouses.
Place your order now to hucksta@ropingdopes.org

It was good to talk to you yesterday and you sounded very positive and upbeat about the future. As Edith said in one of her last emails, enjoy every day when you wake up as a gift from God. Get better soon and enjoyed your April fools blog immensely. I personally remember the army surplus Harley Davidson motorcycles in crates but I was too young to buy one.
Lot to comment on here – first, always love reading your Pesky April columns or blogs. Wait, that’s pesce de Aprile? Never mind. Second, hope you are much better and the stone has been dealt with permanently. Third, that’s terrible news about giving up riding. Are you sure the doctor is just not an anti-motorcyclist and is doing his/her best to get you to give up riding? People like Joan Claybrook of the NHTSA (under Jimmy Carter’s admin) or the IIHS’ Brian O’Neill who made up statistics and studies to discourage riding, come to mind.
Anyway, glad you’re back!

Hello all,
Wait, false advertising?
I was ready to place an order for three of them.
I am having the hardest time posting photos. Error message says file is too large. Any hints.
Thanks
Try changing the camera resolution to a smaller number of megapizels or change the ratio from fullscreen to 1:1.
Alex2no,
Reduce the dpi to 72 and the pic size to 6.5 inches across.
BB
Hey you all.
Haven’t commented in a bit. I do check out the blog from time to time. Had to make sure I checked out the April 1st blog. Always enjoyed it throughout time. Would also for sure like to get a 124 one day.
Hope you get doing better BB. And hope everyone else is doing good.
Thanks for checking in, GunFun1.
RG
Thanks.
Good to hear from you, FM’s PCP-enabling friend; still having gun-fun with that .177 Maximus. 🙂
FM
Good glad to hear that.
Keep hav’n fun. 🙂
You know being retired you don’t keep track of the days, or months and sometimes the year. So, I was ready to order and already wondering what it would take to get an airgun in storage for 23 years back to working condition.
I know for sure there were surplus WW2 Harley springer front ends available in England back in the 60’s for under a hundred bucks. I was there. They were hard to find here. Shops were extending them for choppers.
But I’m glad it was a joke. Now I can put the money toward the new Crosman Choppa Double Barrel Fool Auto BB Gun.
