Description

If your main airgun interest is hunting, the Gamo Big Cat .25-caliber gun should be on your short list.

With a max velocity of 800 fps (with PBA alloy pellets), you'll have some real knockdown power in your hands. While many people prefer using scopes, Gamo has mounted open sights on this gun to give you a choice.

Gamo's Shock Wave Absorber (SWA) removes most of the felt recoil. That's especially important if you spend a good bit of time hunting. Nothing worse than feeling sore from the constant batter of a powerful recoil. That won't happen with this gun.

If you've been shooting airguns for a while, you'll remember that there's an aftermarket trigger unit many people have installed in their Gamo rifles because the factory trigger wasn't that crisp. However, Gamo's new Smooth Action Trigger (SAT) has changed that. It's crisp, predictable and even better than the aftermarket trigger. So, right there, you're saving some money with this gun!

Absolutely nothing this thing was a dog right out of the box they advertise it at 800 feet per second with Platinum PBA ammo I was getting 425 and 430 with it when I talk to a Gamo Tech he told me that I had to send the gun back not to return it to the store and I think it's a real big dig when they don't advertise the right feet per second with anything and you've got to put more good money after bad to send the gun back to Gamo to have it looked at and or repaired save your money by something else

Reasonable price for Gamo quality. Tack driver right out of box. Easy to cock. More than adequate power.

Things I Would Have Changed

Just as with most "package rifles" the scope supplied doesn't suffice for my 10 meter indoor range. I slapped on a nice Center Point 40mm scope with the UTG lockdown rings and it is now perfect. An air rifle for serious shooting needs adjustable parallax for all around distance shooting.

What Others Should Know

Thanks to Pyramid Air for gladly exchanging the "Turkish made" air rifle on my original purchase. Had numerous problems right out of the box with that rifle. Very glad I chose the Gamo .25 cal in it's place. Thanks Pyramid Air for great customer service!!!

Here are some chrony numbers after break in. Using Benjamin 27.3gr. 585,580,582,590,589. 585fps avg. 20+ fpe. Very accurate, consistent. Plenty of power for $200.00!

Wow with just a little adjustment to the open sights this gun shoots accurately. I was quite surprised. It was not difficult to cock and was not too loud for a .25 caliber.

Things I Would Have Changed

I know there is a trigger adjustment for length of travel but I would put in an adjustment so that the trigger could be lightened up a bit. I like a much lighter trigger pull myself. This adjustment is something that every shooter should have on any gun...within reason.

What Others Should Know

Its a great fun gun and I am sure that it will have the knock down power that I like to have when I am out hunting small game. I may just leave the open sights on it for a bit until I get the bug to put the scope on it.

What Others Should Know

I received this gun as an exchange for another .25 "magnum" springer that turned out to be a real "Turkey" with accuracy. This gun has proven to be quite the opposite. It is light weight, well finished, smooth cocking, and very accurate. The gun worked well with the open sights, providing grouping of about 1/2" by 3/4". With the included 4X32 scope, I am achieving dime to quarter sized groups at approx. 23 yards while holding the gun at rest on a table. I am currently using JSB Exact Kings, 25.39 grain. I'm looking forward to trying a slightly lighter pellet soon. After about 250 pellets, I'm very happy with the gun so far.

Re: 10 meter indoor ranges....Some houses are small and that's all the room available. Also most cities have restrictions discharging airguns within limits. Anytime trigger control can be practiced is a bonus no matter what distance!

I don't mean to dig into anybody's soft spots but I never have understood the validity of a 10 meter indoor range as the only thing that affords you is an opportunity to get used to the trigger ... honestly folks ... I could put an 8" pie plate on the wall and hit with a baseball 10 outta 10 times ... but what would that prove? I also have one of those "real Turkeys" and my 125 does just fine at 50 yards. Looking at some paper here with groups averaging 1 1/4 inches at 50yds using H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme 19.09g and 1 1/2 inch groups using N&N Baracuda Match 21.14 g. If I wanna do much better than that I'll have to pull out my Marauder. The 125 is what it is. It's a break barrel gas piston. Is it perfect ... no ... but it does what it is supposed to do. I never expected a break barrel to provide the accuracy of a pcp but it is plenty acceptable to my way of thinking, for what it is. But I do find it a little disingenuous of Gamo to put out velocity figures like they have on this gun

Great review!!!!! I will be getting this over the hatsan line as well. This takes me back to the "SHADOW" days. I'm sure it will live up to the shadow as well get its point across in .25cal!!!! All I can say is Hatsan took over manufacture of the PATRIOT which once was held high, but not so much now as QC really suffered on the one I bought that went throught the same hatsan hands. Gamo is still a good brand been around for awhile. and PyramidAir has always held up solid customer support!

I have a couple of Gamo's and curiously enough they have the same cocking effort as this rifle and both with the GRT 3 and my rifle with Quattro trigger is far superior to those and my Turkish 125 after replacing the stock breech seal is capable of making 1" groups @35yds with H&N 31.02gr pellets & delivering more FPE @ that range than this Gamo gets @muzzle. I am sure this gun is fine but hardly as good as some of the better Turkish guns. My issue is mostly with your snide little dig & Gamo giving an FPS rating based on ammo [PBA platinum .25] you can't even find for sale anywhere! I also think that @this price point you should be getting a gas spring and a new CAT trigger if Gamo hopes to compete with the Turkish rifles [mod87] & honestly though i like the solid barrel i cant see this rifle having any advantages.
