Paintball marker vs. Paintball gun - Is there a difference?
The paintball marker is an air-powered gun designed to propel a gel pack of dye onto a target. Developed for agriculture to mark trees and livestock from long distances, it wasn't long before they were repurposed for recreational activity by shooting breakable balls filled with non-toxic paint. In essence, the terms paintball marker and paintball gun mean the same thing.

Beginner paintball markers are lightweight, easy to operate, and have a nice introductory price. This is the way to go for people who have never played paintball and want to get started. These beginner markers are made of durable materials so you can play hard right from the beginning. Breaking them in is quick - they gain accuracy with very little practice.

If you've been playing for a while, upgrading to an all-around or intermediate paintball guns couldn't be easier. These markers have upgraded technology and an increased firing rate compared to beginner markers. Run and gun with the best of them using these reliable, accurate, quick-firing models.

At the top are professional-level paintball markers. They may be a little pricey, but wow do they pack in the power and technology. With features not found on the lower-level markers, you'll easily dominate the field.

Considerations for Choosing the right Paintball Marker:
Paintball markers come with a variety of features at a variety of price points. Make sure to get what you need for your level of gameplay.

  • Do you want a lightweight marker with a high firing rate or one with adjustable velocity and accuracy?
  • Do you want a gas-powered gun that requires more maintenance or an electro-pneumatic that might not have the power of a gas model?
  • Are parts readily available? The most common parts required are o-rings and barrel plugs. These wear out with use and need replacing periodically.
  • Consider durability. Can the marker stand up to your level of play? Metal will hold up longer in rough play situations.
  • Consider your budget. If paintball is a casual activity for you, a basic paintball gun with standard features might be perfect. But if you are a paintball enthusiast who thrives in the field, it could be worth it to look into a higher-end model with more features to help you overcome your opponents.
