Good bang for the Buck.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
I like just about everything. This is a really nice rifle, right out of the box. Fixed sights were shooting about 2 inches high at 20 yards. Within 5 rounds and a little sight adjustment this gun was dead on at 30 yards.
Things I Would Have ChangedWith the suppressor this rifle is a little long making it a hard to move around in the woods if you're hunting squirrels.
What Others Should KnowI have not really been into air rifles since I was 10. They have come a long way since the early 70's. They only other air guns I have any experience with were ones I bought my son years ago. They were top name brands but of the lesser price range. They were not accurate and some reviews I read said they could take up to 300-400 rounds to break in. This rifle was good right out of the box.
Accurate, quiet, powerful. Real joy to shoot. Grew up with pellet and bb guns, and the neighborhood critters were really lucky I didn't have something like this. Great, cheap way to practice your marksmanship for the "real thing", right in your backyard. No one would mistake the sound for a firearm. But powerful and accurate enough to take out rodents at 50 yards or more (if you're really good).
Things I Would Have ChangedWould probably be better to take some off the price and leave the scope out of the equation. It's not great.
What Others Should KnowI don't see how it's possible anyone wouldn't love this. It's absolutely crucial to get a good pellet. The best I've found is the JSB Diablo 18.13 grain. They are incredibly accurate. I tried the JSB 25.something grain and beyond 20 yards they were useless. With the 18.13 I'm right on point out to 80 yards, and consistent. Other pellets were a really bad experience to the point where I'd have been questioning the accuracy of the gun if I didn't have my hands on the 18.13s before trying the other ones.
I bought this rifle from PA about two or three years ago which was several years after catching the airgun "buzz". The Hatsan 125 Sniper was the first airgun that I fell back in love with as an adult. I had air rifles as a boy, and bought and owned a few as an adult. However, the 125 really changed the way I looked at air guns. I personally like a metal spring as well, and in some cases better, than a gas piston. I like the open sights on the 125 and do not find it at all too difficult to cock. I love the look and feel of the stock, the suppressor does it's job (I have other Hatsan ultra mags to compare it with) I love the power, and I love the weaver rail which we are told are not standard but I have weaver rings on all of my Hatsan break barrels and under levers. The accuracy in my .22 cal 125 is also amazing to me for such a powerful springer.
Things I Would Have ChangedNot very much. I always change out a bundled scope so I can not complain too much there. The scope that comes with it is adequate for beginners and actually holds up pretty well on springers. (I put the Optima that comes in the package on another cheaper springer of mine about two years ago). The gun is what it is, so there is no reason to down it for it's excessive weight. If it were lighter, it would be much more hold sensitive. If it were easier to cock, it would have less power. I honestly believe the gun is worth every penny. The sling works well, but I never use it. The only thing I can really say is that Hatsan calls their trigger adjustable, and while that is technically true, it is as good as you can get it right out of the box unless you go buy a longer trigger adjustment screw. What I'm saying is that you can not make it lighter with what comes on the gun.
What Others Should KnowFirst off, BE CAREFUL if you decide to use a longer trigger screw. I have made some of mine match grade, but it is very easy to screw up so only go 1/4 turn at a time. DO NOT try to get it too light !! I now own 7 ultra mag Hatsans (3-155's, 2-135's,and 2-125's) and none of them came from the factory over 27.5 FPE. They are called 30 foot pound guns, but in my experience they are solid 27 foot pound guns. I have "tuned" five of mine up to 30 FPE or just over that, so it can be done with no noticeable change in accuracy or shot cycle. The guns are made solid, and can handle it. I also recommend this rifle in .22 or .25 cal. I recommend using two piece Weaver rings because they will always fit, and some guns have slightly different spacing between the indentions where the bolts run horizontally through the rail. If you take a scope and rings off of one Hatsan and try to put it on another Hatsan, you may have to loosen rings from scope and adjust slightly.
It's quiet. The trigger is consistent and pretty light. Power is great with little recoil. Super value. Take it if you have the chance.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe stock seems a bit on the cheap side. The cocking mechanism is still grinding away. I thought it would be don't by now. It is a bit heavy and maybe it is just the location of the center of gravity.(?)
What Others Should KnowI have the.22 cal with the spring piston. It hits the target with a smack. I was surprised. I have backed off using it for hunt pests in the farmyard out buildings as I have punched holes in things I'd never admit to. I use a lesser gun or have been more selective on my targets. It is easily my most powerful & heaviest gun. It is heavy. But on top of that, it is the location of the CG. B/c the stock is feather light (almost feels cheap/ hollow?), the steel portion is 90+% of the weight and it is centered fairly far from the shoulder. To shoot well, I have to rest the rifle on something.
The gun is so quiet! I have no idea where all the sound goes. I can hear a click of the trigger and the "hammer" and that is it...clicks. I can hear the air move, but it is not the lions share of the sound like it is on so many other guns I have. I have had for ~4 years now and it has been a good gun. I would buy again for another if that was something they would enjoy.
I luv this rifle it's got plentiful oopowwer this rifle is not for teens! Adult only! I shot this and it went clean threw my house & into my Neighbor's house luckily no problems.
Things I Would Have ChangedFinding a scope that can handle the recoil from the violent action??
What Others Should KnowLearn to use sights!!
- did not purchase from PA I must first admit I purchased this rifle in 25 cal (refurbished) from a dealer in Arizona. I like the camo, looks, feel, and power.
Things I Would Have ChangedThe spring piston of this rifle creates massive recoil. My rifle came with a certificate stating rifle was checked within Hatsan specs and chrony ten shots at 764fps. I put on a Mantis 3x9x40 and this scope was destroyed after about 30 shots. Would not hold zero.. So now using the fiber optic sights the recoil moves the elevation wheel after each shot. The recoil then broke the front fiber optic rod. I had a bulk rod stick and replaced it. After finally finding a pellet this rifle liked (Air Arms Diablo) the front sling bolt thru the forestock sheared in half rendering the rifle in usable for safety reasons.
What Others Should KnowAll airgunners beware.....refurbished rifles may seem like good values but they are someone else's problem gun returned for some reason. I contacted the dealer and Hatsan USA warranty service to see if someone could send me another bolt assembly so I can use my rifle. It was very hard hitting and accurate with AA pellet. I learned a valuable lesson....all my future purchases will by from Pyramyd Air and will be "new" items! From Joseph in Ohio
Highly accurate, very powerful, great ironsights, super sturdy frame, comfortable shoulder pad, highly functional supresser/muzzle brake, awesome stock trigger, safe and efficient auto safety mechanism; just an absolutely epic quality for price. I'd like to add that the gun is no where near as hard to load as people make it seem. Its a matter of technique frankly.
Things I Would Have ChangedBipod is completely useless except for display purposes- should either not come with the gun at all, or at least be built in such a way that it can provide accuracy rather than ruin it. Also, it's dissappointing that such an exceptionally made weapon comes with such a garbage scope. The gun should be sold for another $100 or so and come with- if nothing else- a scope that is made to withstand the intense forward/backward kick.
What Others Should KnowDon't bother mounting the scope that comes with the gun. After only a couple hundred shots, mine had a spun reticle, paint chip flaked off an stuck to the inside of a lense, and off center/chipped scope rings. The zero would generally hold for only a few shots at first, but when I began using the glow iron sights, I found the gun to be incredibly accurate.
In fact, I took this rifle with iron sights to a cook out where several of my friends brought scoped .25 PCP rifles, and really expensive break barrels, and honest to God this rifle was outshooting all of them at 75ish yards.
I bought a UTG 4-12 mil dot 40mm with one piece high scope rings and assure you- this is an amazing rifle. To do any better would basically require a PCP rifle and frankly, it doesn't make sense to lug an oxygen tank or pump through the woods... Heck, you can buy a real gun and walk away with a ton of rounds for the price of a pro grade PCP air gun.
I 100% recommend to anyone strong enough to shoulder fire it
This is a deadly hunting machine and is dead on accurate. The gun looks great, but it is very HEAVY. This gun has a heavy cocking cycle. I did not mount the stock scope, I purchased a Leapers scope with it.
