Shooting Chrony Alpha Chronograph, Red

I like this item because it helped mendial my gun in and it shoots much better now and can hit the target everytime now

The chronograph is very easy to setup and use. All you need to make it functional is a single 9v battery. The guide rods and diffusers are easy to put together and into the chronograph.

Make the fps/mps show to the same placement, instead of tenths and hundredths. Would also suggest putting a cord cover over the wire between the sensors so it is not easy to close it in the case when you fold it up, not a huge deal but a simple detail that would make it a little nicer.

One thing to note is that the fps and average are shown down to the tenths place but when you pull up extreme spread and deviation it shows the numbers down to the hundredths place so if you re-run the fps through another ballistics program you will get different numbers for extreme spread and deviation. The diffusers snap/click together or apart fairly hard and at times so it feels like the little tabs might eventually wear off or break.

Easy to set up and use, fairly intuitive. Shot string data is useful for gauging consistency. Works well with both .22 and .177 pellets.

Design the enclosure so that all the rods and screens will store in side the enclosure when folded. Nice folding package, but you still have to tote around a cardboard box to carry the accessories. This makes no sense. Also, make the screens out of a more flexible and durable material.

Sky screens appear to be made of too hard and brittle a plastic. After only two uses, the flexing is starting to stress the joints where the rods connect.

Easy to set up and use. Easy to read numbers.

Maybe add a padded carry case.

It took awhile to get consistent readings indoors. Here's why. This chrony does not like L E D or fluorescent indoor lighting. I put up a shielded clamp work light with a daylight color incandescent bulb. Now have absolutely no error codes and good readings.

I had the basic green model prior to this one. After giving the green unit to my son, he moved to another state, so I needed a unit of my own again. The green unit was out of stock, so the few extra bucks for this one was no bother. When I started using it, I realized it is a big labor saver, because I no longer need to write down shot info to take back to the Excel spreadsheet to calculate averages, spreads, and SD. Don't cheap out on the basic green unit: Spend the extra few single notes and get the Alpha!

String steel outer shell. Well construct. Good fit & finish except for one thing (see things I would change). Mine arrived with an electrical problem, I decided to swap it for another make & model. Transports well. Lots of different models to choose from.

I don't like the "pressure panel" style of front display push buttons. In terms of reliability, they are hit-or-miss. Mine and already started to de-laminate. (Advantage: they are cheap to manufacture and keep the costs down.) Had the front panel been different, I might have stuck with the product,

I could be happy with one of these, I just decided to go a different direction. Some clever mechanical design features that an engineer can appreciate. Had mine worked out of the box I could have been quite happy with it.

I love the Crony, I have bought a TX200MK3 and an RWS 34, both of which I paid for the 10 for $10 and with minor calculations my rifles are getting stronger over the few months I have owned them. This is a wonderful tool and the only thing to make it better is if PA would also sell a spring compressor so we can keep our air guns in top notch condition.
