5 of 5 UTG Monopod, V-Rest & Camera Reviews
This pod is fine. Remember it's the Indian shooting the arrow, not the arrow.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing......
I bought this monopod after the review above. The writer suggested reading Tom Gaylord's review of the Monopod in his blog at Airgun Academy. I can't stress enough how important it is to review this review and see how Gaylord actually uses this as I would have never figured this out on my own. My first impression is how well engineered this product it. Somebody put a lot of thought and care into it. When it is folded together it is relatively small and lightweight and I can see how important this would be if your are a hunter. Fully extended and used in a standing position, Gaylord is right--it is a little wobbly, but then using it fully extended and leaning the rifle against something like a tree or a wall makes for a very stable shooting platform. My accuracy is considerably better with it and I'm glad I got it.
Things I Would Have ChangedReally nothing as, again, it is a very clever, well engineered item.
What Others Should KnowReally, seeing how Gaylord has used this is crucial to using it well.
Well made and easy to use, this suits my needs perfectly. It is so compact and portable and easy to carry along on my bullfrog safaris.
Things I Would Have ChangedAbsolutely nothing!
I just received my UTG Monopod and got to "test" it yesterday. I went back to the Airgun Academy blog where Tom Gaylord demonstrated the correct way to use it in a sitting position. This information is invaluable. Just go to Airgun Academy, and enter "UTG Monopod" in the search box. Tom did a two part review and the information showing how to use it in a "Field Target" sitting position is in part two. There are detailed instructions and photos. I didn't have a bucket so I sat on a low backless bar stool, a cheap one with no padding. It took me about 5 minutes to adjust it and I was finally aiming at a 1/8" black dot on my 5 yard indoor range. I put four shots with my .22 caliber Talon SS and 3-9 Bug Buster scope, in the same hole the size of one .22 caliber pellet. It looked like only one pellet had been fired. I could not have done better with a full sand bag bench rest setup. I am thrilled with the results.
Things I Would Have ChangedNothing
What Others Should KnowMy first impression was that it is built solid and it is very easy to adjust. There are 4 sections and 3 hand tightening screws to secure the sections when extended. There are "quick release" buttons by each tightening screw and a spring action that pops each section open. You do have to loosen the screws for that button to work. Then, when you have the monopod extended to the correct length, just tighten the hand screws and you are ready to use it.
I did notice that there was a little wobble at one of the hand tightening screws. Then, I discovered that by loosening the screw and pulling the joints out hard and then re-tightening the hand screw, the wobble went away.

Works great for stalk and shoot hunting/pesting! I've only used it a few times sou far, but seems like it'll hold up for the long hall.
Things I Would Have ChangedMaybe make the extensions/leg adjustments slightly more quiet. That way you don't have to be really careful when sneaking up on your target.
What Others Should KnowTry it out, helps with taking a better shot in the field when there's no post/tree to use.
