What Is An Arrow Nock?

A nock is the slotted plastic or composite piece at the very back of an arrow that attaches to the bowstring. It is important because it aids in proper alignment of the arrow before it is released and helps transfer energy cleanly from the string when it is released.

There are many examples, but some common types are:

• Press-fit nocks -- fit tightly into the shaft without glue
• Pin nocks -- fit over a pin bushing to help protect the shaft and accuracy
• Out-nocks -- fit around the outside of a few types of arrow shafts
• Glue-on nocks -- traditional style that is used on some wooden or aluminum arrows
