What Are Archery Points?
Points, sometimes referred to as arrow tips or arrow heads, are constructed for the front end of an arrow, which ultimately influences the performance of the arrow when the arrow impacts your target. Arrow points come in a variety of shapes and materials, and each is defined and designed for a specific purpose.
Common Point Types:
- Field points -- Used primarily for target practice; shaped to minimize damage to targets and facilitate arrow removal.
- Steel points -- More durable, designed for general-purpose, and made with solid steel for repeated use.
- Bowfishing points -- Equipped with barbs, or specially constructed tips that are designed for underwater penetration and the retrieval of fish.
Every configuration is designed to be easily installed by simply screwing the arrow point into the threaded insert at the front of the arrow shaft.
Why the Right Point Matters
The type of point you use affects accuracy, penetration, and retrieval:
- Field points simulate the weight and feel of broadheads to practice with while not damaging your targets
- Steel points are sturdy, durable, and designed for repeated shooting, making them a good option for new and skilled archers
- Bowfishing points are designed to help you hold onto slippery fish while also taking a hit from water, bone, and scales
Having the correct point for your arrow activity allows for cleaner shots, less damage to targets, and a more reliable shooting experience overall.
Choosing the Right Archery Points
When choosing your archery points, consider the following:
- Compatibility with your arrow shaft (thread size and insert type)
- Use - such as target shooting, small game, bowfishing, or tuning
- Weight - Match to your arrow's spine and your bow's draw weight
- Point style and material - For durability and penetration, and what kind of target you're shooting
Whether you're dialing in field accuracy or preparing for a bowfishing trip, we have the points for your needs. If you have any questions, be sure to reach out to our Ambassador team.
