Description

The breakbarrel mechanism of the RX-2 is just like the one you'd find on a gun with a metal spring. Dressed in an ambidextrous beech Monte Carlo stock with a raised cheekpiece, the rifle has a long forearm, grip cap and white line spacers in the buttpad. The 11mm grooves make it a cinch to install a scope. High-quality workmanship is evident all around, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a gun made as well.

Don't forget to pick up a variety of specially recommended pellets, which are listed in the AMMO link. Our ACCESSORIES link lists scopes that can take the power of the RX-2, as well as some targets, cleaning gear and safety glasses.
One of the more powerful guns in the Beeman line, the RX-2 isn't a traditional spring gun. Instead of a coiled steel spring, the piston is filled with air. It's like the gas spring that holds up the back door of a minivan or hatchback car. Instead of compressing a steel spring, you're compressing a column of air. You don't have to fill the gas spring because no air ever leaves it.

When you go hunting with a gun that has a gas spring, you never have to worry about the spring taking a "set." When you cock a gun with a metal spring, you're supposed to shoot it right away. If you leave it cocked too long (and do that too many times), the spring loses strength, remains more compressed when it's uncocked and delivers lower power. That won't happen with a gas spring!

In any caliber, the RX-2 makes a great hunting rifle. In .22 cal., it delivers over 20 foot-pounds.

Includes 1" scope rings, medium profile, vertical scope stop in one ring, 2 screws per base & 4 screws per ring cap.

Here are the benefits of a gas-piston over a spring-piston powerplant:
  • Smoother cocking
  • Smoother shooting
  • No spring torque
  • No spring fatigue, even if you leave it cocked for hours
  • Functions perfectly in cold weather
  • Lasts longer than a metal spring

Accuracy came on quick. I installed a Leupold VX-III 4.5 to 14 with AO turned down to 25 yards. I used the Beeman one-piece mount with stop pin. I cleaned all the threads with alcohol and used blue loc-tite on the screws. So far so good. It's is shooting dime sized groups at 20 yards and nothing has come loose. However, I have put less than 100 pellets through her. She really likes Crosman Premier Heavy pellets as does my Beeman R9 in 0.177 caliber. She is hold sensitive and like I have heard others say she does like to rest on human flesh. She is a shooter and a keeper. This is my first 0.20 caliber pellet rifle and I have no regrets...

The stock had a blemish on it that sort of drove me nuts so I found a metal "Punisher" skull and got out my Dremel and inlayed it over her birthmark. No doubt I can tell she's mine now.

The Beeman RX-2 is a very nice rifle. I also considered the Weihrauch HW90 and think I might still get one just for the open sights. I very much like the trigger pull on these German made rifles. They are fun to shoot! Note that Beeman changed the stock to ambidextrous on the new models so this is actually the second RX-2 as I sent the first one back in exchange for a stock with the raised cheek piece that PA just happened to have laying around???

Powerful, well made

Reduce power to allow scopes to be use with it

I put a Bushnell Trophy scope and two Hawk HK5173 scopes on rifle, non went beyond 15 shots before breaking. I love the rifle but am reluctantly returning it for refund. It is too powerful for any scope I have been able to locate.

Smaug: That is something airgun mfg's would like people to believe so they can boost sales of gas springers, but it isn't true. A "springer" is a springer, metal coil or pneumatic, doesn't matter. In fact most gas spring guns are harder on the scope because the spring is usually stronger. The new nitro Crosman/Benj guns are breaking more scopes than ever, and some are even tearing the picatinny scope rail off! Larweth was correct about the second or reverse recoil that causes the damage. A firearm has a low G recoil. A springer also has a low G recoil, but it's followed by the piston impacting the end of the tube which causes a high G shock that is literally like hitting it with a hammer. You can verify this by plugging the transfer port at the breech and shooting it. If plugged then the piston will stop on air (low G) instead of hitting the end, which you can hear and feel. Just be careful not to damage the gun with said plug. I used a very strong but thin sheet of plastic.

Smaug Sep 01, 2016

Since this gun uses a gas piston instead of a spring piston, Larweth's comments don't apply here. (however, they're accurate for spring piston air rifles)

I made the mistake of buying BSA once. It lasted awhile but when it broke and was sent in for warranty service, they dis-allowed the claim stating it was my fault. The scope was not damaged at all from installation or use externally, and I have installed hundreds of scopes on rifles of every sort. I know all about proper torque, etc. In my opinion, BSA does not stand behind the warranty they issue so I will not purchase any product bearing that brand name.

Larweth Oct 05, 2015

BSA makes springer capable scopes. Had one on my RWS Diana 34 and a few other springers in the past. It isn't what you think that's breaking the scope. Springers hit both ways when you shoot, the hard hit at first, sure that's hard so it's breaking the scope, but that's not it, it's the second "hit" going the opposite way in that fraction of a second that does it. Scopes are made strong for the normal rear movement not the forward/back a springer does, that why you'll pay a lot more for an AirGun scope rated for spingers. I will add, they are really made well, BSA has fully rubberized coatings, excellent optics, sealed well, and beefy. Another thing is you want super high quality rings, entry level will not suffice, spend the money and get the set that will hold your investment zero'd. The forces on a scope from a spring piston rifle are incredible, and the speed at which it changes direction is a huge factor, that's why you'll need the better, wide clamping rings. Wider is better

Bushnell scopes are not tested on air rifles and are not air rifle rated per an email response from a Bushnell customer service rep. I wanted one for another RWS34 but went back with Leapers/UTG based on the response.

Jonathan Mar 31, 2015

Paul, how about telling us what scope you used that has lasted so long on your Beeman RX-2?

Paul Jan 24, 2015

buy a good scope! ive got one of these rifles in .22 and it broke the first scope. P/A recommended a scope that they said would not break, I got it and mounted it about 7/8 years ago, or whenever this rifle first hit the market and ive not had any trouble since. it will consistently hit ping pong balls at 50 yards with the H&N Field target trophys pellets.

Quality! Qualify! Quality! I own a Diana 350 Magnum and Diana 54 Air King as well as a Weihrauch HW 80 which are nice guns but the quality of this is awesome. You have to hold it and cock it to see what I mean! Cocking is butter smooth. Shot cycle very quick and no spring to twang! Trigger is superb also. Accurate gun. Lots of power in .20 cal.

Nothing

The gun is heavy but I believe it is a hunting gun, not a plinking gun. Like they say, eat your Wheaties before you try cocking it!!! The stock is gorgeous, even my brothers wife said it is "pretty"...not my words :-). Pyramyd Air are great to deal with. I got mine with the ten for ten. Came with a printout of 10 shot velocity string. (very cool). Not cheap but you get what ou pay for.

I own 6 air guns. I like em all. The RX2 w/iron sights was the last I bought. I always wanted a Theoben Eliminator n figured I could get pretty close with this gun, both being Gas Rams. I think I fulfilled my goal. I own 2 German built guns n was familiar w/quality n the RX2 lived up 2 what I expected. Tech wise, I have the Hunter 1250 (.177) n the Hunter extreme (.177) n I grew accustomed 2 the cocking effort, which, considering the RX2's less n the same effort all the way through the cocking stroke is smooth n even, was a none issue. The trigger is well formed, metal, n ribbed on the finger side n can be adjusted 2 a degree. I read that the trigger can be fine tuned if u chase it down on the net, but mine is cool. I've had 2 different scopes on it with no creep problems. The recoil is negligible. I purchased a .020 (it filled a niche in my collection) an it shoots where u point it. I had a leak-down problem that Beeman fixed with no recurrence. The weight (all up - 1 pc. mount & scope) is heavy but I'm not a girly man n I'm used 2 heavy. The stock n finish is very nice. Buy 1, u'll love it! .

Nothing

I can't warm up 2 a pcp. Like the always having everything I need right there. If u can shoot a spring - gas ram gun, u can shoot anything because u have 2 develop good habits.

First of all, I am by no means an x-pert shooter! I shoot my piece off a sand rest at 20-30 yds., for now. Consequently, I am still experimenting with dif. pellets. I also have a Beeman R-9 (.20) to compare 2. So much for those "junk" pellets that I read in reviews. NO, I have not tried them all. There is a marriage between gun and projectile, much the same as people! What appears as junk in reviews may certainly perform adequately in your gun. My RX-2 was nice and stylish out of the box, had nice mass (for me at least), and beconned to be shot. and this I do. Although I have only a couple thous. rounds through it, accuracy seems decent and predictable. Accuracy in my terms is hitting what you're trying to hit. Groups at 20 yds. are about the size of my little finger nail, stacked.; this is for a 10 shot something or other, using Benjamins, Exact, Predators, and "Crows". They all seem to shoot consistantly! My R-9 shoots best accuracy using Predators exclusively; some other brands are a close second, but for both long and short range shooting, they work the best. As I expand my shooting range with the RX, I will certainly update my review . And, as in marriage, I continue to be flexible with my experimentations_knowing when accuarcy has been achieved. Speed: 794 fps. w/ exact .22 ammo.

For now, not a whole lot, as we are just getting to know one another.

I will still prefer the R-9 for hitting the woods...weight mainly. On the other hand, I shall remain optimistic that the RX will totally divorce that elusive wood
chuck_just around the corner.

I have the Beeman Dampening 1 pc mount on my .20 RX(bought in 1992) and have had no issues. I don't believe Beeman makes the mount any longer but I believe RWS makes a similar mount.

One possibility, not pleasant, not perfect for obvious reasons and will take a bit of work. Use a Set Screw, or 2 of them. This will require that you drill and tap into the side of the scope mount, that's where the work comes in. I would think using either a 6x32 or 8x32 should do,the trick. It's not a perfect solution but I imagine it will solve the issue.

Chevota Jul 18, 2012

Darby: I use the RWS one-piece scope mount, it's the best there is in clamping force. The one I'm referring is the one with 4 screws on the rail clamp, everyone else uses 3. Plus there are 4 per ring. Tighten well, problem solved. They're expensive but oh well.

DarbyA Sep 08, 2011

My experience with the Beeman has been as enjoyable as yours, with one exception: I have not so far, in 5 years, found a method of mounting a good Bushnell scope to the 11mm dovetail that doesn't move within 250-500 shots. I have tried combinations of adjustable mounts, LocTite, hardened self-locking screws, additional "bumper stops", you name it! I would welcome any help from anyone who has solved this problem...

It's pretty. Seriously, it's a good looking airgun. Install a nice muzzle cover in place of the front globe sight and it's very slick looking. Accuracy is excellent, excellent, excellent. I have the .22 caliber rifle and it runs 20 FPE with a variety of midweight pellets. It's a potent hunting gun. The firing cycle with the gas ram is very slick. I own several "tuned" spring piston rifles and they come close to, but do not equal the smooth, fast, completely zero vibration *THOCK* you feel on firing this rifle. No buzz, no twang, none of that. A solid thump and the shot is on the way.

Not much. I got mine several years ago before the price went up to where it is now. Closing on $800 is a significant amount of money for an airgun for most people. Add good bases, rings, and a scope that will standup to the recoil jolt of this rifle and you are looking at well over $1000. Not that that's bad, but it's creeping out of the affordability range of many people, especially for a gun that's designed almost exclusively for hunting.

Cocking effort is hard. This rifle is heavy and LONG and thick. I have dedicated benchrest style centerfire varmint rifles that weigh less than this rifle complete with scope and base.

Everything, this is the ultimate hunting machine. Ground squirrels from 20 to 80 yards. Best pellets, Beeman FT's, JSB, Crossman premire.

I can't think one.

Shoulder harness, helps on long hunts. It is a little heavy, it is a real mans gun. Love it to death.

Peter Jul 19, 2011

This is a very handsome air gun. Typical of HW and Beeman. But looking at a 9.8 pound weight without scope, which is needed to shoot since it has no iron sights, we then get over ten pounds, maybe into 11 pounds. In otherwords, into the realm of an M-1 Garand, 8 rounds of 30'06 in the magazine. Then, the cocking effort of near Webley Patriot 50 pound effort. No, way too much of everything, Pete Hallock California
