This is a robust well designed knife that can easily compete with any fix blade. If you're in need of a camp knife and prefer the ease of carrying a folder this knife fits the need perfectly.
This one, the 5-Max, totally lives up to the hype! I absolutely luv the New, 2023, Cold Steel/Demko, 5-Max; it absolutely, "ROCKS!!!" I highly recommend the 5-Max for those wanting a real good and super dependable "Survival" type of SDUEDC Folder that you can depend on in a dire, life saving, situation. Ok, I admit it. This thing is huge and a bit impractical, but I am not mad at it. It has the ability to be hatchet-lite with a comfortable baton hand position and retains the ability to choke up on it for finer work. Razor sharp. Cold Steel has every right to be proud of this offering. I hope they will make a max elite with same color and finish. I would buy the first couple off the line without hesitation.
The 5 Max is an all purpose knife but off the design of the 4 Max and it over compensates with a Razor sharp 5” stonewash black blade with G10 OD Green handles that compliments the black blade. In my hands this is the equivalent to a Bushcraft Fixed Blade survival knife with a multiplicity of uses including Tactical EDC purposes. It’s not a 5 Max Elite (no titanium liners) but this one is the Tank of Tanks and a must have. Not for the faint of heart.

I have been a die-hard CS fan/collector since 1996, and thought I had seen it all, but the 5Max takes the cake. I have wracked my brain (and inventory) in vain to find a similar product, but all pale in comparison. This is, honestly, the best knife they have ever made. HUGE, but manageable in both the hand and the pocket. Titanium liners. G10 scales. Not sure what material they used to coat the S35VN, but it is phenomenal. Mind-numbingly sharp. The fit and finish are without flaw. Smooth action, rock-solid lockup. With the exception of my wife's engagement and wedding rings, this might be the greatest purchase of my life. This is my go-to EDC tool/weapon. THANK YOU Andrew Demko and CS for bringing this one across the finish line. I have purchased and reviewed a ton of CS products in my life - this one ranks #1 out of all of them!
