    Things I liked:

Overall I am very pleased. I tried a spring load rifle and was not happy with the performance. This gun is easy to handle and accurate. The pump mechanism is fairly easy to do once you get a technique down .I like the compact design.

    Things I would have changed:

Include the peep sight already mounted.

    What others should know:

This gun is just fun to shoot.

    Things I liked:

Good power with few pumps, great wood quality, solid feel. With open sights, it's incredibly accurate.

    Things I would have changed:

It would have been nice to put dovetail mount on top of the receiver, making it easier to mount a scope with shorter eye relief.

    What others should know:

Mine has a bit of slop in the trigger (wobbles a bit from side to side). Benjamin guns are usually very high quality, so this probably just an isolated problem. It doesn't ruin the gun. Flat head pellets are tricky to load.

    Things I liked:

Wood and metal construction, power and accuracy. The trigger is really nice with a little take-up and a crisp predictable realease,a lightweight dedicated hunting gun. I,ve owned Crosman/Benjamin guns since I was 12,I'm 29 and they all still work. A great American made classic.

    Things I would have changed:

Better wood and factory peep sight installed on base gun, but for the money it is just fine the way it is. Get some Pellgunoil because the gun is shipped very dry.

    What others should know:

This gun is very accurate and powerful enough for headshots in .22 to quickly dispatch squirrels and rabbits humanely with the right pellet. Mine loves Predators, Premier hollowpoints, and RWS Hobby pellets. Pumping this gun can get tiring, but it's worth it every time you pull the trigger. It' loud ,but I like it that way.

    Things I liked:

Has ok wood stock. The only plastic parts is the push button safety and butt plate. Adjustable power. Has a nice carbine feel to it, light much lighter than my old springer. Excellent gun for the price. Plenty of power in .22, chronograph very close to advertised velocity which is a rarity. Also easy to maintain and take apart.

    Things I would have changed:

Their is a gap between the pump and the rest of the stock it would look better if it was a flush fit.

    What others should know:

Scope mount- Air Venturi Intermount Get a pellet sampler (mine likes the RWS MEISTERKUGLN) and you will find the pellet that complements your rifle. My gun was very picky on the pellets it was ether super bad groups or one on top of the other. Keep at least one pump when storing.

    Things I would have changed:

the way it arrived i got it with out the srew to hold it togather but luckaly i had a 397 so i stole it from there.

    What others should know:

buy it its a cheap gun but it can out shoot and hunt all of my other air rifles. buy it you wont be disapointed. recomend gamo magnums and RWS superdomes they do the trick for me.

    Things I liked:

Well made, good wood and steel. Powerful, consistent, kills squirrels fast.

    Things I would have changed:

Build a better blade sight or include a peep sight in the standard package.

    What others should know:

Overall, extremely good value at a good price. Buy the Williams peep sight. It's very good and very inexpensive. The blade sights on the Benji are bad. No other complaints. Minor Woes: My 392 immediately needed serious tightening of several screws and the large bolt in front of the trigger area. Moderately Annoying: Blade sights in general are not very good, and on the 392 they are as bad as they can be. You can use them--sight them in and make accurate shots--but the rear notched blade sight is nearly completely useless in low/poor light, and it needs delicate handling. I could not lower it far enough to sight in on a short indoor range without taking it apart. The rear sight is a thin, flexible piece of steel held in tension from its mount on the barrel by a screw. The sight is raised and lowered by turning another screw the sight rests on. Any pressure or wear and tear over time is likely to throw this sight off. So just take it off and put on a Williams peep sight instead. Putting a scope on a short barreled multi-pump rifle like this seems like it would be an exercise in frustration. A scope requires addition of a mount which must go so far forward on the barrel of this rifle, you'll be leaning a long way further in than is normal.

    Things I liked:

Accurate, powerful, solid constuction, relatively compact size, and inexpensive. Typical recoilless multipump.

    Things I would have changed:

    Nothing really

    What others should know:

This is probably the best value in airguns. This gun is a classic, and the design hasn't changed a whole lot for decades. Think about it, you could spend $300-$400 dollars on a springer that has slightly more velocity (these guns are close to their exagerate advertised velocity), and it won't be anywhere near as accurate. Yes, it can be difficult to pump for younger enthusiasts or those small in stature, but springers can be hard to break open too... It's my go to gun, and if I had to pick, it'd be my only gun.

    Things I liked:

IT'S MADE OF WOOD AND STEEL. MINE WAS PURCHASED IN THE EARLY 1970'S. IT WAS MADE IN AMERICA. IT IS HEAVY AND THIS MADE ME MORE RESPONSIBLE. I HAVE USED IT FOR SMALL GAME. WHEN IT HITS THE LIVE TARGET THAT'S IT. CRISP BOLT ACTION. THE SINGLE SHOT HELPS DEVELOP PATIENCE IN YOUNG SHOOTERS.

    Things I would have changed:

    NOTHING.

    What others should know:

AS A YOUNG SHOOTER I WAS TAUGHT HOW TO SHOOT BY AN EXPERT. I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOOT AND CARE FOR BOTH AIRGUNS AND FIREARMS. I OFTEN SHOT SMALL GAME ON RAW PROPERTY IN THE TEXAS HILL COUNTRY. IT WAS VERY QUIET AND THERE WAS TIME TO LEARN THE RIGHT WAY THE 1ST TIME. I STILL RECOMMEND SHOOTERS LEARN THE FINE ART OF PATIENCE. I AM ALOT OLDER NOW AND HAVE BEGUN TEACHING MY KIDS HOW TO HAVE FUN WITH A GUN. IT IS OUR RIGHT AND IT IS A PRIVELEDGE.

    Things I liked:

It is easy to pump for kids. Very accurate [for good shooters] . Bearly need to sight it in out of the box. Very VERY good sights. It has very power

    Things I would have changed:

I would of made the front sight thinner, for better shots. And that is pretty much it.

    What others should know:

This gun shoots at 50 yards with very little drop! I am just a 9 year old kid and I can hit a soup can at 50 yards with this gun. This gun is a very VERY good gun. if you just like shooting in the backyard , buy this gun!!!!!

    Things I liked:

Wood stock, accuaracy and power. The accuracy is good but this version in .177 was a bit better. It was also worth every penny. The price was great, I have found this gun at local stores for anywhere from 45-60.00 more.

    Things I would have changed:

I should have ordered it with the Pump-Assist modification, it is a bit tough to pump.

    What others should know:

This gun belongs in everyone's closet, hunting small game or just having fun

    Things I liked:

the factory sights are great, the power is incredible bouncing cans at 60 yards with 6 pumps, the accuracy is nothing short of amazing .25 in. at 10 yards with 3 shots, dimes and nickles with ease at 20 yards

    Things I would have changed:

the breech area could be smoothed its hard to load a wadcutter or a round nose that has any kind of ridge around it

    What others should know:

for the price you coul not hope for a more accurate or harder hitting air gun, i recomend premier hollow points or rws super domes both seem to be very accurate, im looking forward to hunting with this rifle

    Things I liked:

    Compact. Lightweight. Powerful. Serviceable. Durable.

    Things I would have changed:

The triggers are not going to be mistaken for the Wiehrauch Rekord trigger. But they smooth up with use.

    What others should know:

These can be serviced by the owner/shooter. They don't require any special tools for disassembly. A good Hardware Store will have all the tools necessary. Crosman/Benjamin are happy to supply mechanical drawings by e-mail and to sell parts. My experience with 2 of these has been that they are not as accurate as the .20cal. or .177cal. versions of this rifle. 20yds. or less they are adequate for pest control. But accuracy is the eye of the shooter. The Williams Receiver Sight is superior to a scope on these, in my opinion. The scope mounts for these will walk up and down the barrell due to the action of the pump lever and linkage. And they are not sufficiently accruate to warrant a scope in my opinion. These rifles are WORK to shoot very much! 50 full power shots every day will make a difference in your upper body you can see, before long. They are loud for urban use. A full charge being released outdoors will be recognized as a shot for a good 50yds. in all directions. On the other hand, Power. A spring gun that will thump with this is going to weigh 2-5 lbs. more than this does. For utility and pest control, I think these are real hard to beat!

    Things I liked:

I like how powerful and accurate this gun is, it has been around for a long time, and the quality is still there. I also had a model 312, I bought in the early seventy's and both are very comparable in quality, and power.

    Things I would have changed:

I wish they would have kept the walnut stock, and the trigger of the model 312, however the new model is very nice also.

    What others should know:

This is a true american gun that has stood the test of time. I can not recommend it high enough. Please read B.B Pelletier article's on this gun here on Pyramyd.

    Rating 5.05.0 5.0

    Things I liked:

What's not to like? You cannot beat the price for the quality you get. First off, I have a 397 that's about 8 or 9 years old. Other than a little rust and a few scratches, it still performs like new. The 397 did not disappoint. It's a beautiful gun. It weighs enough to provide you with stability while shooting but not so heavy that you get tired quickly. The accuracy is superb. While lining up my sights, I obtained 1/2" 5 shot groups from 35' with RWS Superdomes and Crosman Premier Domes. Actually, more like 1/2" holes since 2-3 would hit near identical spots. I can't wait to take it out for a day of plinking. I'm trying to convince my friend to invest in one. It won't take much since he's seen how my 397 performs. I'm already thinking of getting the CB9, just so I have the complete line :-D

    Things I would have changed:

NOTHING... The quality out of the box is worth twice as much as what you're paying for in this gun. Though some say it's difficult to pump, I have no issues with it. The power dictates that this gun is meant for adults and a child has no business handling it. A misguided shot can prove tragic no matter what caliber the pellet is.

    What others should know:

These are great guns and they'll truely make you a better marksman. They're very accurate so if you don't hit the target, it's you, not the gun ;-) I suggest domes from RWS or Crosman's Premiers.

    Things I liked:

This gun shows what people can make of a 22 pellet rifle this gun has a lot of stopping power. Its small and compact so its perfect to but in the closet right by your door so when you see that pest in your yard you can take it right out. this is perfect for small game hunting so if your looking for a pellet rifle to hunt with thats not a 300$ gun then you have to get this

    Things I would have changed:

i would make it a little easier to pump

    What others should know:

this rifle is pretty loud i must say so if you want one you want to make sure your neighbors wont be bothered by it but it if the perfect gun for getting rid of pests

    Things I liked:

Compact size; variable power; been in production for a long time; reliable design leads to good value; walnut stock (bought my rifles before introduction of walnut finished hardwood stock).

    Things I would have changed:

Your trigger finger muscles will grow, grow, grow. Trigger pull is probably off the scale. I needed lots of practice with the heavy trigger pull to extract the innate accuracy of my 392/397 rifles. Reduce trigger pull to 3-4 pounds; return to formed steel trigger guard.

    What others should know:

I've been acquiring all types of air rifles for 40 years. I own versions of this rifle ranging from original St. Louis Benjamin 310/ 312/317/342/347 models to the latest Benjamin-Sheridan renditions. The original Benjamin rifles have much lighter triggers. If you truly like air rifles, you have to own this classic American air rifle. The quality and reliability remain high. They are fun to shoot until you tire of pumping. Replace the rear sight with the factory aperture sight. Shoot this gun until you realize how accurate it is. I like my Benjamin rifles.
