    Things I liked:

I like the look, the feel, and the accuracy of this weapon. This is a 5 star gun without a doubt! I just fired 60 rounds through it using Crosman 177 pointed pellets at 36°F and was able to hit quarters at 50 feet!!! I have mounted a scope(4x32) and a folding bi-pod.

    Things I would have changed:

I would increase FPS to 850 for hunting rabbits. A break-barrel version would be better.

    What others should know:

Buy extra magazines for reloading, use a scope and Bi-pod combo for accessories. This weapon does not disappoint! You will not find a better looking and shooting rifle for this money anywhere!

    Things I liked:

Looks really cool, quite accurate at the ranges I'm interested in which is about 25-40 feet, Picatinny rails for accessories, AR-15 accessories will fit and look cool.

    Things I would have changed:

Include 2-3 clips even its a few extra bucks

    What others should know:

I think the A3 flat top configuration was the right way to go. If they had gone with the integrated carry handle it would be plastic and not very durable and would make mounting optics hard. I have an AR-15 and just for yucks I put the detachable metal carry handle on the M417 and it fits perfectly and looks pretty cool. Even though I like the look of the carry handle, I am using a Walther PS22 dot sight because I can't shoot fixed sights for squat. With the dot sight, I get nice tight groups. I swapped out the buttstock with a spare AR-15 buttstock I had lying around. The AR-15 buttstock does fit and increases the throw by a little over an inch which feels better to me, plus it definitely has a more solid feel. The faux "buffer tube" that the buttstock slides over is slightly smaller than Mil spec so the fit is a little loose, but tolerable. I've put around 150 round through this gun so far and it is really fun to shoot. Great for rainy day shooting in the garage or basement. Within 50 feet it is quite accurate, but beyond that groups start to open up quite a bit.

Great classic look Nice feel and weight cheap to use

    Things I would have changed:

It would be nice to have something like this in a full metal body, with slect fire.

    What others should know:

I mounted my A-3 carry handle from my AR-15 and it works fine. needed very little adjustment of the front sight. Makes it look much better in my eyes.

    Things I liked:

This is my second m417. This one is being kept " new in box" as a collector item since I understan they are changing these guns to a m4-177 in January so the m417 is going to be rare in this condition. I carefully opened the box for inspection of course, fired exactly one shot to be sure it worked added one pump and put everything back.

    Things I would have changed:

The only thing I don't like is the plastic coated barrel. That just seems to yell cheap, but for what it is, well done crosman. The sights ar cheesy but effective for anyone that has gone through military basic training.

    What others should know:

Grab the m417's before they go away. I'm betting the 417 is going to be worth money in the future if it is in new condition.

    Things I liked:

Looks really cool. I own an AR-15 and wanted something to get my shooting in when the weather or my schedule prevented me from going to the range. It is ~1.5" shorter than my AR-15 carbine so the size is good. I've only put about 60 rounds through it in my garage at about 20 feet, but this gun is really fun to shoot and gets very tight, consistent groups at the short ranges (20-40 ft) that I'm interested in. Picatinny rails are very nice and appear to be close to spec since my AR accessories fit perfectly on it.

    Things I would have changed:

Include more magazines/clips and just raise the price by a few bucks. It would be worth the convenience.

    What others should know:

Contrary to what the other posts here say, you CAN actually mount something on the bottom rails on the barrel and handguard and still pump the rifle. I tried putting a picatinny mount bipod (that I got at Pyramyd) on both the barrel and then the handguard rails and I COULD do a full pump. HOWEVER, I have to mount it on either of the two front-most notches of the barrel, or the two rear-most notches of the handguard to give enough clearance to get a full pump. The point is that you CAN actually use the mounting rails on the bottom. I also disagree with the other posters about making the design with the fixed carry handle for several reasons: 1) If they did that, it would be made of plastic and not be very durable 2) It would make mounting optics more difficult and introduce more parallax 3) If you really want that look, you can get a detachable aluminum AR-15 carry handle for it. The metal carry handle and front sight also give the gun a bit more heft if that is what you like. Just for kicks I put on the detachable metal carry handle and front sight from my AR-15 and they fit perfectly. Crosman definitely made the right call going with the flat top rail design. Although the AR-15 carry handle looks totally cool on it, I am using a Walther PS22 dot sight since I can't shoot iron sights for squat. Bottom line: Very cool looking gun, good accuracy, good fun and any AR-15 accessory should fit on it. Did mention that it looks really cool?

    Things I would have changed:

This gun would be very cool as a Co2 powered gun.

    What others should know:

If you like to shoot with a powerful accurate and fun gun then you need to buy one i already own 3 of them.Im going to try to make one a Co2 shooter.

    Things I liked:

Good price, reasonably accurate, okay magazine capacity, based on AR-15 (so familiar to AR-15 variant owners), works well with accessories.

    Things I would have changed:

Make it semi-auto, make the magazine capacity higher.

    What others should know:

As it has a rifled barrel, don't shoot BBs out of it if you're also going to shoot pellets, shooting BBs ruins the rifling making shooting pellets less accurate. If you want to shoot BBs pick up a cheap smoothbore like a Crosman Pumpmaster 760 or Daisy Model 25.

    Things I liked:

I like it's "Form". It really does look like a military issued gun.

    Things I would have changed:

The two weaver rails in the bottom are not too "Functional". Adding things like a bipod, forward grip, light and laser may hinder pumping action. You are not able to add to much thing there especially since it will require a lot of pumping.

    What others should know:

I am planing to cut the length of the barrel down and just enough to only display only the muzzle flash.

    Things I liked:

Looks, feel, rifled barrel, price, nice sights

    Things I would have changed:

Lower accessory rails are unusable due to interference on the cocking stroke. Also, a small piece of something soft inside the pump handle would greatly reduce pumping noise. There's a lot of plastic-on-plastic slap.

    What others should know:

I bought this gun on pre-order, because I'd never had any desire for a 760, but this one looked cool. And it is. It's still a 760 underneath, and therefore somewhat limited, but it should make an ideal gun for introducing younger shooters to the fun of pellet guns. I know my nieces and nephews will be fighting over this one, while many more capable youth-oriented guns are waiting on the rack. But hey, anything to get them shooting!

Much better than I expected for the price. I put a Walther MRS on this puppy and the accuracy is great out to 50 yds with pellets and bb's

Shooting bb's thru a rifled barrel will eventually diminish accuracy, so buy 2!

    What others should know:

This gun is easy to shoot. Very easy to adjust sighting, both elevation and windage. I was hitting quarter size groups at 20 yards after just a few adjustments. The gun has a high "cool factor". I painted my gun camoflauge and it really looks authentic. It was easy to paint and the paint did not harm any of the plastic.

    Things I liked:

Even though it's plastic it's nicely built and of good quality. Trigger is very nice, it's easy to pump, shoulders well and adjustable stock is very nice and works well. The supplied open sights work well but for me a scope or red dot sight helped bring out accuracy. I tried both and settled on a plain 4x scope. Actual FPS readings were a bit lower than the advertised FPS rating but that is of course to be expected. Chronograph fps readings were... CPL's 528, CPHP's 529, JSB Xpress 525, FTS 502, Superdomes 530, RWS Hobbies 557 and RWS SHP's 561. Testing done with 10 pumps. I tested 23 different pellets and found 3 pellets that grouped well, those being CPL's, JSB Xpress domes and RWS SHP's. Those 3 pellets gave quarter sized groups at 28 yards, it was the best I could get. I plan on retesting at 20 yards and see if accuracy tightens up a bit. I haven't tried shooting BB's with it so I can't comment on how they shoot but I think having the BB option is nice. During all my testing the rifle functioned very well and I was impressed with the rifles quality. I bought the rifle for it's "cool" factor and also as a backyard starling shooter, a task that it should perform well. For birds or mice/rats the rifle should work nicely. I wouldn't hunt squirrels with it but it might be fine for rabbits at close range as it doesn't take much to take down a rabbit. All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase, It's a cool little rifle and decent shooter for what it is.

    Things I would have changed:

A couple of extra pellet magazines with the rifle would be nice. I forgot to order more mags when I ordered the rifle, so do yourself a favor and order more mags when you order the rifle so they'll be included in the shipping costs. I don't know if Crosman has any plans for this but this rifle with C02 would be awesome. I wish the power (FPS) was higher but I can't complain as I knew what it was when I bought it. However a more powerful version of this rifle, with enough power to make it an effective small game hunter would be really nice.

    What others should know:

Yes the gun is mostly plastic but I felt it to be a good build. The extreme light weight of the rifle makes it a joy to carry around and shoot. For the price you get a cool looking rifle that is actually a decent shooter for what it is. The rifle is a lot of fun. I am looking forward to plinking with it and also thinning out the local starling population.

    Things I liked:

This Air Rifle Is Awesome. I wasn't expecting much but looks when I ordered it. Upon opening the box and removing it I could feel the solid construction. It's actually put together better than a certain company's .22LR AR Looker. I do realize it is not as durable as a real M4. But I see many hours of pleasure shooting it. Much better than the A.I.R.17 from the 1980s.

    Things I would have changed:

I'm more of a fan of the old fashion look in the AR15. Would wish that they built a solid stock version with a carry handle sight. But having a 16 y.o. nephew I know that this is what is popular. I texted Crosman and asked for a remake of the M1 Carbine based on the 760.

    What others should know:

Buy it. It may be valuable like the M1 Carbine of the 1960s-70s.

The overall outward appearance...this will excite most TRUE airgun fans with a fervor for an AR-15 M4.

    Things I would have changed:

I would make this a breakbarrel that can achieve greater velocities. The days of pumping a BB-gun are in the past. The best designs include a breakbarrel option.

    What others should know:

Good amount of power for someone that has never had a powerful airgun.

    Rating 4.04.0 4.0

    Rating 4.04.0 4.0

    Things I liked:

The overall appearance is very faithful to the M4 assault carbine. This is a very "tacti-cool" cousin to the workhorse Crosman 760! It's appropriately powered for a plinker. Seems well constructed, if not exactly robust. The 5-shot clip is nice for pellet use -- loading pellets without the clip would, in fact, be nearly impossible. I have not used BB's (and won't) , so other than to say that it's an option, I can't comment. I do have a 760 dedicated to BB-only use, and it works great, so I really don't see why the M417 would be any different on that account. The pumping forearm is much better, ergonomically, than the earlier 760 forearms (the 760 has recently been redesigned with a new pumping forearm, so I can't comment on the latest version). Pumps and shoots just like the 760 (from which it evolved). Unlike the 760, the (for me, fully-extended) telescoping buttstock of the M417 FINALLY gives adult shooters a comfortable shooting position. The entire buttstock assembly is detachable, by pulling a spring-loaded catch and sliding the assembly up and off the back of the receiver. Presumably to allow different stock configurations? Very attractive price! I'm very critical of some aspects (below), but let me be clear - I think this one is a winner. So far, I'm very satisfied with mine.

    Things I would have changed:

The included sights are less-than-great, but for this price, I can't be too choosy. The rear sight on my gun DOES have two apertures, but they are both exactly the same diameter. One is, appropriately, bevel-backed by a recessed bowl, the other is just through-drilled (which makes the resulting sight picture indistinct...). The rear sight is adjustable for windage, using a flat-tip screwdriver blade (but there are no detents); the front sight adjusts for elevation using a socket key (again, no detents). Both of these tools are included on a sight adjustment tool, stored in the padded "fake-magazine". The Weaver rail atop the receiver is not very long (but IS appropriate to scale), but at least it offers the owner a mounting point for a better sighting system. To be M4 carbine appropriate, this would mean mounting a dot sight (preferably with a tube diameter of 30mm or more). There is not enough weight in the rear half of the airgun. What would be the "buffer housing" on the real M4 is just a hollow tube. Filling this part would add some much needed weight to counterbalance the front-heavy pump assembly. That being said, the whole airgun, as OEM, is only about 4 lbs even, so there isn't all "that much" weight to begin with. The Weaver rail that hangs below the barrel doesn't offer a lot of usable options, since the pumping forearm would interfere with all but the smallest attachable accessories... Most of the sling-attachment points look too weak for use.

    What others should know:

Wow. I've been waiting for this one all summer... I pre-ordered mine, so I got it pretty much immediately when Crosman released them to their retail partners. It hit my door on October 28th, and I've been experimenting with it for almost three weeks now. The M417 is very nearly a 1:1 scale replica of the M4 tactical carbine. Some of the dimensions are a little off - for instance, the heat-shield/pump forearm is a little larger than the real deal, and the pistol-grip is a little smaller - but overall the resemblance is uncanny, especially from a few feet away. Some of the features of the real M4 are replicated in non-functioning, molded-on form. Some of these include the charging handle, forward assist, magazine release, and bolt lock. One clever exception is the M4-style "fire-select switch" ("safety"), which has been replaced with the familiar BB feed port cover from the Crosman 760 and 66 pumpers. That's a very organic looking detail, which serves a real, bespoke, airgun-specific purpose without compromising the overall looks of the replica. Nicely done, guys. The telescoping buttstock locks in 6 open postions, and is a lot sturdier than I had expected from an $80 plastic pumper. In fact, though very lightweight, the entire airgun seems to be well constructed of quality material. There are very few visible seams, and no sharp edges or burrs on the moldings. Performance mirrors that of the host-airgun 760. I expect it to be a dependable plinker.
