    Things I liked:

stock and fore grip were good. easy to cock.

    Things I would have changed:

put red /green color on the safety / fire switch. the plastic peep sight did not adjust easily for me.

    What others should know:

I put on a metal peep and it is now extremely accurate when shooting it benched.

    Things I liked:

Light weight, quiet, easy to cock and accurate

    Things I would have changed:

I would add red letters to the safey so when its hot the letters FIRE are red. Right now Safe and Fire are both black type.

This is the greatest bb gun ever made.

    Things I would have changed:

Not much. but showing the difference between the 499/499B would be helpful.

    What others should know:

My 499 B came without the sling. But, James got Daisy to send me the parts.

    Things I liked:

This is a simple no-frills spring piston air gun, that just happens to be match-grade accurate! Well, I guess the Williams-style diopter rear sight and and interchangeable front inserts are frills, but based on how accurate this gun is, they're necessary!

    Things I would have changed:

    Not a thing!

    What others should know:

I bought this air gun for my wife, or so I thought. She loves it, but I'll admit that it has become my go-to basement target shooter! It may look like a Red Ryder, but the similarities end there. The cocking lever is metal, which along with the wooden forearm and stock give it a nice old-school feel. The trigger has a bit of a long throw but it's consistent. The velocity on mine is also very consistent at about 237 fps using Daisy Match-Grade Steel BBs. That combined with the fact that it's a muzzle loader (meaning no moving parts or wiggle room where the BB seats) is why it's so accurate. And accurate it is! I find the included diopter sight to be just fine and I have no plans on upgrading it. At 5 yards this gun will hit EXACTLY where you aim it. It's the perfect training piece and is excellent for learning (or reinforcing) proper technique. I wish this had been my first BB gun as a kid. It's reliable, accurate and fun to shoot. What more can you ask for? Highly recommended!!!

    Things I liked:

Accuracy. Overall finish. Removable barrel for easy cleaning. Assortment of front sights. Trigger pull is fairly smooth.

    Things I would have changed:

Sights are extremely susceptible to temperature change, and "walk" accordingly. Groups remain the same, but the point of aim changes. This was frustrating when transitioning from indoor to outdoor shooting and vice versa.

    What others should know:

The first Avanti 499 i ordered lost the BB retaining magnet and had to be returned. However PyramydAir sent me a new one without any problems and its been shooting well for the last 6 months. I would have given this gun a higher rating, but i must rate it 1 star less due to malfunctions.

    Things I liked:

VG fit and finish. VG accuracy. Quality materials. Excellent for indoor practice. Good price for such an excellent piece.

    Things I would have changed:

Theoretically, I would make the barrel from lathed brass stock.

    What others should know:

A steel machine that needs proper care and storage.

    Things I liked:

Fit and finish is very good. The aperture sight mounted easily and although made from polymer material, is very serviceable and works well. The forearm has a cavity for adding extra weight to personalize the balance of the gun which is a nice feature. The accuracy is everything the advertising says it is. This is an excellent gun for anyone seeking a target rifle for use in smaller spaces and indoors. It's quiet, economical and very very accurate.

    Things I would have changed:

I think the gun was designed primarily with younger shooters in mind, but its so well made and accurate, that shooters of any age will enjoy ii. Seniors and adults who enjoy target shooting would not be disappointed with this gun. As a result, offering an adjustable stock length such as is found on the Daisy / Avanti 853 would be a welcomed change. The length of pull "as is" is just a bit short for most adult shooters. I extended the length of mine with a recoil pad but would have paid a little more for a system with extension inserts.

    What others should know:

I was skeptical about the performance of this gun when I bought it. I was wrong. This is a different animal from the Red Ryder type air gun. This is really a very decent target gun purpose built for shooting at 5 meters and it does that job very effectively. It is perfect for those shooting indoors at modest ranges and did not disappoint. This gun is excellent value for the money and lots of fun.

    Things I liked:

Well made and very accurate! While these guns resemble the Red Ryder, they go way beyond anything the Red Ryder is capable of. I bought this for my grand daughter's use (she's on our local 4-H rifle team) and was amazed with the accuracy this bb gun is capable of. I would highly recommend this bb gun to any wanting an accurate shooting indoor gun. This would be a great way to keep one's shooting skills sharp without spending lots of money or annoying the spouse or neighbors (it's pretty quiet). All in all fit and finish are very good compared to other bb guns. An excellent choice for the novice to learn firearm safety and the basic of rifle shooting.

    Things I would have changed:

These are more costly than many other bb guns but if accuracy is important to you then they are worth the extra cost.

    What others should know:

Buy the Avanti precision ground shot to get the best accuracy from these guns!

    Things I liked:

Fun, fun and more fun to shoot. Accuracy, they are not kidding, for a smooth bore BB rifle, I was blown away. Threw the rear peep sight on and after three clicks up, was catching the 10 ring at 5meters. I haven't shot with a globe sight in 30+ years, since high school smallbore competition. That's with some tired old eyes.

    Things I would have changed:

Rear peep sight a little more solid on adjustment clicks.

    What others should know:

Hoping I'm allowed to give to my nephew to get him learning for gun safety and handling. No it's not powerful, but it is perfect for what it's intended for. I can easily see a child being able to cock and handle. Smaller children may need the butt stock shortened, easy enough with a saw if needed. Great learning tool.

    Things I liked:

This is a very solid lever action. NOT like a Red Ryder or any variation of it. I do wish it had more power, but I guess it wouldn't be as accurate if it did. I understand the education and competition purpose but still wish it was not a muzzle loader and shot about 50-75 fps faster. I am convinced also that the supreme accuracy is not only the smooth bore barrel but more to do with the much longer sight radius.

    Things I would have changed:

Nothing. Its a legend of BB guns.

    What others should know:

It is a single shot, muzzle loading, very close range highly accurate BB gun.

    Things I liked:

    Very accurate little rifle.

    Things I would have changed:

Trigger needs a little help. Did it. Gave this rifle a 4 because I need a scope to see the targets (age 75). Also the butt is pretty slippery. I mounted a scope with the original sight screw and a little Brownells J-B weld. I added a rubber butt pad cut from an old bicycle inner tube to stop the butt from sliding (hint Daisy). I have a few photos if interested.

Yep, they are right, this is THE most accurate BB rifle in the world. If you want to hit what your are aiming at, then this is the gun for you. Just buy the Daisy Avanti BB's and you will be set to go. This rifle is so much fun and accurate.

    Things I would have changed:

A little better trigger, but you will get used to it.

    Things I liked:

Can I just say...everything? Everyone mentions accuracy...yes, in SPADES! Once I got it sighted in, which only took maybe a dozen shots, I changed targets and after my first shot, I took a couple more and was wondering what was going on as I couldn't see where I had hit the target. Well, closer examination disclosed that I had hit in the exact same hole! Wow! I had looked at, or I should say overlooked this rifle for many years. I just couldn't get past the Red Ryder BB Rifle looks and just could not believe that it could be much different. Man, was I wrong! After reading all the write ups (the one star write up is just insane, written by someone that had not even shot the gun)and watching a youtube video, I decided to order it. I love to shoot and have several guns that fire bullets, pellets, and BB's. I must say...this has them all beat. Much more sturdy than the Red Ryder and so easy to use! Perfect for the indoor range, which I LOVE! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!

    Things I would have changed:

Not much really. I painted my front sights white with a sight paint marker and that really helped with the darker backgrounds on some targets. I also put on a nice, hard rubber pad on the butt of the stock which helped with my length of pull and the slickness of it. Many people state that all of the front sights are the same size, but there is a slight amount of difference in each one. They change out really nice. I like the beefiness of it compared to the Red Ryder. I got the Red Ryder 75th. Anniversary rifle as a wall hanger in my cabin and the difference between the two is like night and day! The trigger is great, so I wouldn't change that. I believe my cocking handle is made out of metal, although it could be a good polymer, I'm not sure at this point. Either way, it feels really nice and hard and I don't think it will ever break. I just don't think there is much to change on this fine rifle.

    What others should know:

Just for fun, after sighting it in with a bulls eye target, I used a zombie "shoot and see" target so that I could see exactly where I was hitting. Actually, the bulls eye target was also a shoot and see target. This makes such a huge difference when trying to see where you are hitting. With regular paper targets, it is virtually impossible to see where you are hitting. Although it is well built, it is also light and I like that. As others have said, if you are on the fence about this rifle...jump on off and just get it. I really don't think you will be sorry. Mine didn't come with the medallion and I wish that it had because I like to collect things like that. I'm going to write to Daisey and see if they will send me one. Maybe they don't send them with the gun anymore...I don't know. Anyway, I believe that Ralphie from "A Christmas Story" would approve of this rifle! I don't even think that he would have to worry about shooting his eye out! LOL!

    Things I liked:

Very accurate, easy to cock, competition type "peep" sights. Great bang for the buck.

    Things I would have changed:

There is no pad on the butt of the stock, so it has a tendency to slip off of your shoulder. It may be that way because this rifle is used for some competitions. My grandson (10 years old) had a lot of trouble keeping the stock on his shoulder until he rolled up his T-shirt sleeve so that the butt was against bare skin. I will probably will find some sort of pad to help the slipping problem.

    What others should know:

This air rifle is an awesome target rifle. It is so accurate, that we were having trouble with the 2nd and 3rd shots bouncing off of the first one (I use an electrical putty pellet trap so the first shots stick where they hit.) My grandson has a regular Red Rider BB gun which is great fun to shoot, but it is not accurate. This air rifle is fun to shoot and is accurate as many more expensive air rifles. I can not say enough good things about it.

    Things I liked:

This little gun is insanely accurate. All of the sudden I think I am a trick shooter. I hit a 10mm wide washer at 30 feet, not once but every time. I can hit a 6mm airsoft bb at 20 feet. I cannot imagine being able to outshoot the gun. At 20 feet a 10 shot group bigger than 10mm is hugely disappointing.

    Things I would have changed:

The forearm has a couple of tiny holes for "weights". They should be much larger to allow enough weight to matter.

    What others should know:

This is not an upgraded Red Ryder. This is a handmade, specialized gun. That said, it is a great backyard shooter as well as target gun. It is far more accurate than you would ever believe a bb gun can be. I balked, like most people would at spending $130.00 on a bb gun. It has been worth every penny. Last, pay the small premium and buy the Avanti Precision Ground Shot. It is vastly superior to Crpsman and RWS BBS and noticeably better than regular Daisy BBS.

    Things I liked:

This is one fantastic, accurate BB gun. It's like an Olympic 10 meter rifle, nearly. If ACCURACY is what you want (and who doesn't?) then get this for yourself or your kids. It's a wonderful gun for teaching good shooting habits, and it's SO REWARDING because you can hit what you aim at! This is a TARGET gun; not one to bounce cans around or break bottles...

    Things I would have changed:

Not much. The wood is really nice. The sights are like Olympic rifles - diopter rear and hooded front with insert. Oh, the cocking lever is plastic, but the rest is metal and wood. The lever is no big deal, and if you didn't inspect it real close you'd never know. That's really the only thing I'd like changed, make the lever all metal.

    What others should know:

I tell you, in the house, when you get the urge to just shoot and it's not possible to go outside, tape a target on an old phone book, or cardboard box with layers of paper behind it (be safe and sensible) and drop a BB down the barrel and get the satisfaction of putting a little hole in what you aimed at... I only had 20 ft distance to test inside my trailer.

    Things I liked:

The fit and finish were much better than I had expected. I purchased this rifle to be used as a gun safety and training rifle for my grandchildren. I received yesterday, installed the pip site and started shooting a 5 meters onto a one bull target designed for 5 meters. I first shot 5 shots all ended up between 6 and 9 oclock in the 7 and 8 ring. Not bad. I made a few minor adjustments and the rifle began shooting in the 9 and 10 ring unless I would pull a shot out a bit. I am 65 years old and I wear bifocals. I have not shot a pip site in years. After sighting the rifle in I moved to a 12 bull 5 meter target. The two bottom center targets are for sighting. I shot 10 targets, 100 shots, one shot to each bull. Out of the 100 shots there were only six that I pulled outside the black bull which is about the size of a penny. I felt that was pretty good for an old guy with bad eyes. I am looking forward to more shooting this afternoon. This is not your average bb gun. I can see that I'll need more of these in the future for the rest of the family. My granddaughter is now four and my grandson is 1, so I do have a couple of years before I'll have to share this with them.

    Things I would have changed:

    Nothing.

    What others should know:

This is really a fun gun to shoot. I'm sure the gun shoots better than I can shoot.

    Things I liked:

Most Accurate BB gun on the market. Easy to repair if something goes amiss. Excellent product for the money.

    Things I would have changed:

There is something funcky with the barrels/muzzles or a possible increase in air pressure put out by the guns manufactured in the past few years as we are having a high frequency of breakage.

    What others should know:

If you have a consistent shooter who all of a sudden has a "flyer" every once in a while. Remove the muzzle and barrel and check the black plastic very carefully for hairline cracks or breakage.
