Things I liked:

Bull-pup design. Decent power, "weaver rail", excellent trigger, cool engineering & nicely working repeater - stellar IZH quality

Things I would have changed:

Open sights seem cheap. maybe some mounts for a sling.. and a flashlight.. would make an excellent rat zapper

What others should know:

keep track of your shots because dry-firing this gun is easy to do by accident. Choose good pellets because they affect how it cycles. Bull-pups are weird guns to shoot due to their arrangement - sounds weird, but sighting one with a red dot might be easier to do offhand rather than bench-rested. They don't like to be rested.

Things I liked:

I like this gun alot. I use it when I'm tired of using up all of my CO2. Nice weight; feels great in my hands. Tricky safety lever. Sometimes I have to push it again. All we owners of this gun need is access to more mags.

    Things I liked:

Here it is 2015 and it is still going!! Still shoot on the mark and has I don't know how many pellets shot down the barrel?..One of my favorite guns.

    Things I would have changed:

Trigger pin. Needs some kind of keeper to keep it from coming out. Still no one has the magazines.

    What others should know:

This is a fun rifle to shoot.

    Things I liked:

Gun is heavier than it looks which is good---Solid construction--The Russians are real good at making lots of stuff, but two things in particular; tractors & guns----Not real fast, I'd guess around 550-600 fps, but that's fast enough if you want accuracy from a $100 fun gun----unique look to it, so get ready to have lots friends asking to shoot it----I love the whole concept of Bullpup rifles----They're just cool--

    Things I would have changed:

Include a second or third magazine---Make the barrel shroud black----Make it so you can't dry fire with an empty magazine, as sooner or later you WILL forget/loose count of rounds down range---In the heat of battle you will forget how many shots are left in magazine, and you don't want to dry fire a springer----Use better sights; I removed the rear sight, put on a picatinny to dove tail riser [22mm to 11mm] and a Williams 5D-AG peep sight with a .050 aperature on top of that----It seems to sit lower than the stock sight, looks better as the stock rear sight appears flimsy, and is rock solid, plus with a peep sight I can pick off asperin tablets at 10 meters with my seventy year old eyes----I had to do a little filing on the riser to make it and the Williams sight fit together, but ten minutes later and it was good to go----

    What others should know:

Getting used to the cocking-loading-firing cycle takes a time or two, but then becomes automatic---You just have to remember how many of those 8 shots in the magazine are gone, or you're always popping it out to see how many pellets are left, it's kind of a mental distraction while you're consentrating on shooting----the gun is more accurate than I expected, lots more, but I'm still trying to figure out a way to get a bore snake through the barrel to clean it----I want to go from breech to muzzel with a pull through, but you have little room to move at the breech to get things started---It's just wide enough for the magazine, but you can always push a patch from the muzzle, taking your time to watch the crown, as it's resessed in the red colored shroud, so you can't slip on a muzzle guard----Use pellets with a skirt at least 4.55 or more, to keep them from falling out of the magazine as you load up---Make sure to tighten all the screws, locktite as necessary, as all were just hand tight on mine when it arrived-----happy shooting

    Things I liked:

Fun to shot after getting through learning cycle of how to use---Keep count of your shots or you'll be dry firing your springer gun--This especially goes for friends shooting your gun--Tighten all the screws as most of mine were loose-----Use locktite as necessary--

    Things I would have changed:

I put peep sights on almost all my rifles as I don't shoot well with scopes, and peeps are better, faster to use than partridge sights---The peep sights on this gun are now made by Williams---I removed stock rear peep sight, found a Weaver/Picatinny to dovetail riser on the web for $9.00, and put a Williams 5AG peep on it with a .050 aperature----Gun is now accurate and as we all know only an accurate gun is a fun gun----Happy shooting

    What others should know:

Shoot pellets with .455 or wider skirts so they stay in magazine and don't fall out---I own six guns made by Baikal and the other five arrived in their box, which was enclosed in the sealed vinyl bag as shipped from factory----This gun came in it's box only, no vinyl bag, and was cocked which ain't good for a springer, with empty magazine installed[?]----go figure; Every thing seems OK, works, so I'm keeping it---Just FYI

    Things I liked:

Great plinker with good velocity. Easy to cock, 8 shot clips. Very compact. Good value for the price.

    Things I would have changed:

Put some decent factory sights on the gun. I had to top out the rear sight to get on target at 25'. Since the sights sit so high above the barrel (2") there's no telling what it will do at other ranges but it's OK for larger targets I'm sure. Make extra clips available.

    What others should know:

In a contest, I'd have to give the IZH 61 the nod since it is extremely accurate, has good iron sights, is lighter and can easily be cocked while shouldered. The downside being that the 61 velocity is a little slower (by 70 fps) and has only 5 shot clips.

the guns shape and how you cock it. it takes a little getting used to operating it but it is fun to shoot and the safety is a great safety you have to disengage the safety each shot and the safety is well placed right in front of the trigger and it has great power

    Things I would have changed:

the ability to fire pointed pellets

    What others should know:

it can not fire pointed pellets the magazine is to short

    Things I liked:

This gun is made by a real firearms manufacturer and has the look and feel of a quality gun.

    Things I would have changed:

The height of the rear sight off the top of the rail is an odd dimension. I would like it to be compatible with sights that are available for AR-15 style. The peep sight that comes with this rifle is better than it looks (looks like it would fall off if you breathed on it too hard) but it will definitely not take much abuse. I am debating on purchasing the Mendoza peep sight and mounting it with a Weaver to Dovetail adapter. I am uncertain in the height of this combination will work. It's a risk.

    What others should know:

You will be limited in your choice of pellets that can be used. Pointed hunting pellets interfere with the rotation of the magazine when cocking the rifle. Also do not try lead ball ammo. It'll roll right out of the magazine into the chamber. You don't know whether the chamber is empty (dry firing is not good) or if there are multiple bbs. The rifle has decent accuracy with Gamo Match Diabolo and Crosman Premier Hollow-Point. The crosman HPs will punch through both walls of the recent aluminum style bottles that Pepsi sold. These bottles are much heavier gage than normal pop can. Good power and accuracy.

    Things I would have changed:

This is a great pellet gun my favorite by far. Dont hesitate to buy this one

    Things I liked:

This pellet gun is very unique. Its well built and looks really cool. They really outdid themselves on this pellet gun. Its also pretty accurate. I tried a leapers red dot sight but it sucked. The stock sight is pretty good contrary to what manny people have said.

    Things I would have changed:

Its very hard to tell when your out of amo because theres no counter on it. And that sucks because the manual says dry firing it can damage it. I usually fire an empty shot because i dont count the shots. The painted red painted barrel looks pretty tacky but can be painted. Thats about it as far as things that should be changed.

    What others should know:

This pelet gun has a little kick to it but its not bad. It also smokes a bit out the barrel when fired wich is pretty cool. The quality of this pellet gun is very good. I highly recomend it. Also tighten the screws up a bit when you get it. Its my favorite pellet gun ive ever owned and ive owned a few.

Very well engineered repeater. Accurate. These Russian guns are real bargains. This gun is great fun. Easy to cock. Nice solid action and firing cycle.

    Things I would have changed:

The RED barrel shroud!! But a little black paint will fix that. The blade rear sight is a pain to adjust. A peep site would be better.

    Rating 4.04.0 4.0

    Things I liked:

Built like a tank, and very nice engineering. The plastic body is textured, and feels very high quality, no cheap plastic look. The over lever cocking mechanism makes cocking extremely easy, even for youths. Short bull pup style hold is very steady, feels good to hold and shoot. Higher accuracy than I expected, easily hitting necco wafers (cheap shatter blast targets) at 10-15 yards, a good plinking range.

    Things I would have changed:

Pellets fall out of the 8 shot clip, so you cannot easily preload and shove them in your pocket for later. I wish the 8 shot clip was more like the Umarex style, which securely holds the pellets in place. (When loaded in the rifle, pellets are held in the clip and do not fall out.) The red barrel tip is cheesy, but a little paint can take care of that.

    What others should know:

No clear indication of pellet count, and no stop when empty. Dry firing can damage it, so you need to keep count. This rifle is unique, and very fun to shoot. Highly recommended.

    Things I liked:

I have had mine for over a year now and it still throwing out those pellets like the day I bought it. Left the red dot on it and for close shooting it is the best. Rats Rats where you atz ! ! ! !

    Things I would have changed:

Get rid of that ugly red barrel cover! Mine is black I guess because it is older. STILL trying to get someone to carry extra magazines!!! Email IZH and bug them. Need to do something with the trigger pin. Mine came out after about 75 shots and the gun was full on cocked back. I had to take it apart while it wasin the cocked position wide open. SCARY....but I figured out how to ratchet it back down with it apart. Then I put the pin back in and put a drop of one drop on it. Well, it just came out again this week and I had to put it back in. I think it just needs to be a tighter fit? One drop held for over 2500 shots.

    What others should know:

Just that it is a great little gun and I think will be one of the collectable air rifles. VERY fun to shoot. Try different pellets. I found that flat faced pellets work the best for me. Here in Hawaii we don't have a lot of different choice but I found a Daisy pellet that works good and is accurate.

More power would be nice. 750-800 fps would make this a great little hunter.

    What others should know:

This one, like the Drozd, is way more fun than it has a right to be. Together, they're my favorite fun shooters. It's also a very easy air rifle to lube/tune.

great gun, nice feel, was very impressed with the cardboard box sealed with heavy plastic, you can tell the manufacturer, dosent scrimp on any quality just by the way its packed! put a leepers red dot tactical on it, and a shoulder strap gun turns heads, biakal is top notch! great indoor gun!

    Things I would have changed:

ok the rear sites need instructions for removal, took about a half hour 2 figure out how 2 remove it! the front sight needs 2 b a flip down, type, scince its only waranted and not returnable i cut the front site off looks much better, and dosent get in sites way, now! the red barrel extension was easy 2 remove and paint black, when putting it back on i disscovered why its there its used 2 hold the top catch, a small piece of metel with a notch in it needs 2 be there, ive figured out how 2 mod that, now and put a beeman muzzel break on it now its complete, and looks as good as it shoots!

    What others should know:

this gun only shoots domed pelets, would prefer if it shot pointed pelets, they r lighter and a lil more acc. @ some distances, butt dont let that keep u from adding this russian collectable, 2 your gun rack, you,ll luv it 2!

    Things I liked:

This is a rugged built gun and the thing I like the most is that you can take this on a hike and won't have problem of dropping it and breaking. It's powerful, accurate, and an all around comfortable and fun gun to shoot.

    Things I would have changed:

The only things I would like changed is the painted barrel, but of course it has to be painted so no one calls the cops on you for shooting in the back yard and the clip so you can shoot pointed pellets.

    What others should know:

The best bang for the buck if you want a gun that doesn't look like your neighbor's Crossman or Daisy.

    Things I liked:

Before I review this gun, I'd like to thank PyramydAir for replacing my defective gun. Awesome serivces. I love the replacement. I like the bullpup design and that's probably why I purchased this rifle. Very accurate on the sight clamp. Most people would say it's fairly accurate, that's probably because of the recoil. This gun has fairly strong recoil compared to most air rifles in its class. I just got it and sighted in today so hopefully it will calm down once everything is broken in. Very fun to shoot. I love it.

    Things I would have changed:

I would the magazine to be made out of metal instead of plastic.

    What others should know:

The gun is now come with an ALL RED color tip, from the front post to the tip of the barrel. It doesn't come in the all black color as the picture shown above. The peep sight is not mounted to the gun, out of the box, for some reason.

    Things I liked:

A well-built airgun. The engineering is very nice, the cocking action is smooth, and with the right hold this airgun groups very well. Also the 8 round magazine system is great. Came with two magazines and extra mainspring.

    Things I would have changed:

The rear sight is useless. I mounted a leapers 5th gen compact on it and it works great. Also, it would be nice if the magazines were made of metal instead of plastic, and it would be great if it was possible to buy more of them!

    What others should know:

After about 1500 shots the pivot pin for the trigger came out. An easy fix, but resulted in a tense moment where i didn't know whether the piston had been cocked and i had to disassemble the gun. For everyone who can't figure out how to remove the base of the rear sight- you've got to pull out the pin! Also, the manual that was included is quite good, but fails to mention one important fact - there is a small hole under the gun where you can insert a small piece of metal and push a lever that releases the piston. Important to know in some situations

    Things I liked:

Compact, accurate, well made, great trigger, really gets attention from airgun crowd.

    Things I would have changed:

Sights are terrible, I removed the useless rear sight and cut the entire front post off with a dremel (it sits so high that it is VERY visible in optics). Weaver rail is not especially strong.

    What others should know:

--ONE YEAR UPDATE-- I first reviewed this on 25 February 2008. After nearly 1 year, and several tins of RWS Superdomes, here is an anniversary followup :) My MP-514K is still shooting great. As noted above, I removed the included sights, since they were less than useless. I ended up mounting a BSA red dot sight for plinking, though I do mount a compact 4x32 now and then to shoot targets at 20m. Accuracy is still really tight, and my powerplant has settled down to a nice smooth firing cycle. The trigger on these guns is a real pleasure. The sights notwithstanding, this is a terrific, economical plinker. It's built like a tank, too, so I doubt it will ever give me serious trouble.

    Things I liked:

fun to shoot, well made all around, nice trigger pull, Have shot about 250 shots and it shoots smoother now that it is broken in. sights are ok but I put a red dot on it and it improved groups. The peep sight lines right up with my red dot! Perfect.

    Things I would have changed:

put a sling mount on it. Hard to carry because of the weight being in the front.

    What others should know:

Extra Magazines are STILL not available anywhere. I contacted the manufacture and they say its up to the U.S. distributors. Email these guys to get them to provide extra magazines as a accessory !! This rifle is to much fun to shoot to have to keep reloading magazines.

    Things I liked:

Well made, accurate at 15 yards after you get used to it. Might mount a R/D on it? Like the trigger pull. Keep it lubed and it is smooth. Like the multi shot feature! Cocking action is also great and well engineered.

    Things I would have changed:

Put a shot indicator on it! Yes I can count to eight but if you shoot ....check your shot, shoot , check your shot you lose track. Better open sights. The stock ones are fair and take time to get the hang of them. Dime size 16 shoots at 15 yards is the best I can get. There is usually a outsider but I think it is just me. My wife says its the excitment! Build a .22 cal with a little longer barrel for more power.

    What others should know:

Bug Baikal to get the dealers to stock extra magazines!! I have been trying to get them and no one has them. Would be great to have about 10 and not have to load so often.
